Chefs Brian McCracken and Dana Tough opened Spur in Seattle’s Belltown in 2008 and already it’s been recognized by Food & Wine magazine as one of the country’s top restaurants. Acknowledged for turning out some of the best dishes and cocktails in town by local media, the Chefs were selected as "Rising Star Chefs" nationally by the industry insider magazine StarChefs. In addition to earning the attention of Wine & Spirits magazine, their cocktails have made Spur one of Seattle’s top 10 bars.


The Chefs’ collaboration dates back to their time in the kitchen at Maria Hines’ Earth and Ocean restaurant, together on Hines’ traveling team at the 2005 James Beard Dinner in New York, and today creating their menus at Spur.

    Very interesting spot. Service is good, extensive cocktail menu, limited but adequate wine list, progressive menu. The crudo and oxtail terrine are excellent and very interesting. If I had time for only one resturant stop in Seattle this place would be it.

    Our group of 8 ordered almost everything off the menu and everything was delicious! The salmon crostini was unanimously the best dish we'd eaten that night. Would definitely go back anytime. We had a reservation for 9pm on Friday night and our table was ready when we arrived. Service was fantastic! Thanks Alexandra for taking care of us that evening.

    A local friend who lived nearby recommended this place. Boy, was she right. We enjoyed every bite. We were doing a eat and run to get to the airport, but it was a divine experience, and we almost had the restaurant to ourselves (we were there at 5 on a Sunday). I'm sure it's busier at other times. If you are in Belltown, Spur is an excellent detour!

    If you're on a prom date or belong to a frat house or sorority, this place is for you! The scene was loud, the food pretentious, fatty, over-salted and overpriced. Cocktails were very good. Staff had been told in advance that a special birthday was being celebrated, but it was never acknowledged. All in all, a not-so-great experience. We won't be going back.

    Excellent service. Food was very good and inventive but the portions were small and it was pretty expensive. Not sure if I am a big fan of foam but everyone else in my party seemed to be. I went with my parents and I think when I go back I'll just take my husband and make a romantic evening out of it.

    We dined here on an unusually slow night (lucky for us) so it felt as if we had the place to ourselves. The food was a-m-a-z-i-n-g, our waiter was friendly and super knowledgable, the cocktails were unique and tasty and the desserts were out of this world. Can't say enough good things about SPUR...we enjoyed it tremendously!

    We had a great dinner and the server was very friendly and provided great information about each dish. The sockeye salmon crostini was incredible. The whisky sauce on the burger was a little too "vinegary" (only way I can think to explain it), but over all ok. The lamb saddle was fall apart tender and very good. The tagliatelle wasn't bad, but not really memorable. I haven't had rhubarb ice cream before, but it is now one of my favorites. The tart-sweetness of it was fantastic to end the meal on. The music was turned up a bit too loud for normal conversation, but the place has a comfortable feel.

    An interesting dining experience with a great wait staff. Our waiter was exceptionally helpful in choosing drinks and food and provided excellent service. The food is good and it is an experience because there are so many things to try that you don't eat on a regular basis. Recommend a visit!

    We found the service and the food to be very good. I had read about the restaurant a few times and I wasn't quite sure this was a place I'd enjoy. I do think it's a bit over-rated and is more of a tapa bar with the existing menu. The tapa sized portions were well presented and the staff did a great job explaining what each dish was made up of. The portions were generous and the selection was pretty good. The drink menu was good as well. I like the fact that they don't charge the high prices you sometimes find in the trendy bars. A well made martini was $7 we had a great meal and I'll definitely return.

    Unpretentious yet self-assured. Food with a flair. Welcoming staff who were well-versed in the back bar and the cellar, so were in a place to provide an opinion. The appetizers were the best part... no, the main course was the best... no, the dessert was the best... no, the sauternes. The question we ponder over every dinner: Would you go back? Absolutely. Great find.

    The wife and I were in town all week, escaping LA for a bit of R&R. We came to Spur on the last night, and tried quite a bit of the menu. Just lovely. The pasta carbonara with sous vide duck egg was very nice, and the oxtail terrine with wasabi pudding was a nice riff on steak and horseradish sauce. The artichoke salad was refreshing, and the pork belly sliders were simple and delicious. I will absolutely recommend this place to anyone and everyone I know in Seattle - it was that good. There are many elements of molecular gastronomy, but it never gets in the way of the flavors. Highly recommended.

    The food was fantastic and the ambiance was very inviting. A great date spot! The service was outstanding once I was at the table, out server was prompt, attentive and very personable, but not overbearing. He spent just the right amount of time telling us about the dishes and answering questions for us. The only down side was that we arrived about 15 minutes before my reservations and were asked to sit in the waiting area until our reservation time, despite several tables being empty. The tables were apparently for groups with earlier reservations that had yet to arrive, however, we ended up sitting in the waiting area for 30 minutes. It also got a bit noisy at the end, so I would recommend going earlier rather than later.

    Unbelievably good food ... amongst the very best my wife and I have eaten in Seattle. The service was excellent. The only complaint would be the annoyingly loud man at the table next to ours but the place is a 'gastropub' and where I come from pubs are noisy places! In all seriousness, this isn't just a place for foodies but more a place for those who recognize and enjoy the very best food but prefer a friendly, knowledgeable staff rather than formality!

    Amberjack crudo was amazing. Lamb was mediocre, underseasoned in my opinion. It took an inordinate amount of time to prepare a "specialy cocktail" which was listed on the menu; the waiter cited that they had an inexperienced bartender manning the bar on a busy Friday evening. Noise level was deafening to the point that you needed to shout to be heard across a small table.

    JDon't go hungry unless you want to spend at lot of money. Drinks are expensive and the tapas menu is very light. Stopped on the walk home for some noodles to fill the tank. I'm not a big eater, but 80$ for four items and two drinks is way too much for what amounts to a snack; it's a bit over the top. If spending a lot of coin is your thing, the food is good.

    The food was terrific but there was very little of it. The portions were absolutely a joke. A crab salad ("good for sharing") was not two bites' worth. As a result, value at this restaurant is about the worst in Seattle. And the service was boorish. The waiter thought he was the center of attraction, constantly interrupting conversation at the table, and attempting to strike up what amounted to personal converations with us, all the time while putting his hands on me until I finally asked that he stop doing so. Not going back.

    This review is NOT about the food – we never got to that point. We were seated on time for our 7:45pm Saturday reservation. We ordered 2 drinks off the house cocktail menu and then waited for 25 minutes without them being served. The 6-top table next to us were served 2 rounds during the time we were just sitting there. We ordered our dinner which was to share the Chef’s 5-course Tasting Menu ($75) plus an additional appetizer ($9). The server said she needed to check with the chef to see if he was ok with us sharing the Tasting Menu (which I specifically stated didn’t need to be plated separately). She never returned to confirm if that was going to work or not. We walked out without ever drinking a sip or tasting a bite.

    I've never eaten such beautiful food! The presentation alone was perfection and the flavors were familiar americana with luxurious twists. The trout was exquisite and the chocolate cake was absolute heaven. Favorite cocktail: Broken Spur #2.

    The menu at Spur has some fun and unique offerings. Unfortunately, the food was hit and miss. A couple of the dishes were excellent. One (Tagliatelle with duck egg) was bland and had the texture of noodles and glue. The veal sweetbreads were average, but the gnocchi had great flavor and texture. The atmosphere is lively and fun, but the wait staff was overwhelmed and did a below average job of noticing empty glasses.

    Amazing food that is out of the norm. Nice to see new things on a menu without having to go to a super expensive restaurant (pork belly, sweetbreads, etc.). It was also a huge bonus that the meals are smaller so each person gets to order 2-3 plates and really try different items. Drinks are very exotic and cool - speakeasy style. If you want to get a sample of the place, try their bar Tavern Law up on Capital Hill.

    Fabulous food, great service. Only minor complaint was that you shouldn't go with a huge appetite because portion sizes are very small for the buck. Definitely more about quality than quantity. Good plates for sharing between two, but they are too small for 4 people (everyone gets a tiny nibble of each dish then.) Creativity and yumminess were top notch, though!
