The food was, as usual, very good. My wife had a good-sized chunk of well-prepared escolar with wasabi-mashed potatoes, and I had a perfectly grilled New York steak. We drank a nice Longshadow Feather cabernet from the balanced and varied wine list. Our dessert - chocolate soufflé - was also very good. The service, though, was poor - which is unusual in our experience here. Our server forgot our salad, disappeared until after we had finished our main courses, took 10 minutes to bring the dessert menu, and then disappeared again. Had to ask the owner to get coffee. All in all, a very good dinner. Just a clunker server.

We've been to the Waterstreet Cafe & Bar several times and the food has been wonderful every time. The service is very good too. Our hostess greeted us warmly and seated us quickly at a great table; our waiter was friendly and very professional. The food was delicious and presented beautifully on our plates. As expected it was overall an outstanding experience. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends, however, I would caution that it is on the pricy side (but well worth it).

Waterstreet Cafe always has the most interesting selections and their chef(s?) are absolutely amazing. I had some spinach with ginger and mint ... who thought that up? It was so so very good! My fish and rice were also perfect. My husband was also happy with his meat dish ... hooray since he's a meat & potatoes guy who I usually can't get to go to an adventurous restaurant.

Bailey our waitress was Fantastic! Impressed with her server skills, it's been a long time since we have had such good service. Food that evening with the afterhour menu we ordered the freid qualye and it was $8.00 of nothing we could eat. Good think we had bread to sop up the blue cheese sauce. Also why wasn't there a salad on the late night eats menu?

We always have a good time at WaterStreet. It has never disappointed us. The cheese sample platter is a must and is an awesome mix to surprise and delight your palate. My halibut was excellent although the gnocchi was a little tough, wouldn't recommend it. A true Olympia gem!

We tried Waterstreet Cafe for the first time. We were looking for a great outdoor patio. The patio was dark and it was too cool outside so we moved inside. We felt very comfortable and it was like eating dinner inside someones living room. Very cozy. The food was great! But our appetizer pizza was cold. In fact even though the food was properly cooked, all of our food was only luke warm.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

The food was delicious but the portions were smaller than I expected - my $24 plate of butternut squash ravioli had about 8 ravioli, for example. My party of 6 spent over $300, but we were not the largest party in the restaurant and the service was not especially attentive. Our water glasses sat empty for 10+ minutes. We had to ask for 2nd cocktails. We had little kids with us, but we weren't offered a kid's menu. They clearly have a kid's menu because they offered the "kid's version" when we ordered. It was a little loud for our party of six. It just felt overpriced. It was not a Fine Dining Experience. I don't mind spending money on a great dinner at all, but I am a little put out by spending so much money on a "good" dinner.

We have dined at the Cafe many times over the years and have had consistently fine meals with reasonably valued wine pairings. The primary reason I am commenting on our last experience is because of the exceptional server we had (unfortuantely I don't recall her name). The wait staff have always been courteous and professional but this server provided especially good customer service. She did not rush us, she provided knowledgeable recommendations, but what was most impressive, she took my wife's cocktail back and asked the bartender to modify it for taste, stating "No problem- I want to be sure you enjoy it." Wow- you don't hear that very often!

Had another great dinner at Water Street Cafe. We had a wonderful private table in the corner at the back of the room. We warmly welcomed when we arrived. Service was superb as it has been in the past. Greatest challenge is deciding what to order. We started with the antipasti platter; delicious & huge! My friend had the coconut crusted snapper which she loved (spicy). I had the the lamp chop which was wonderful & came with sweet potato gnocchi (only "complaint" was not enough lamb; 1 chop). Superb wine list too.

We dined on a Thursday night. The restaurant was not crowded. Although we had a reservations we were given a center table with uncomfortable chairs rather than one of the sleek, comfy booths. The waiter was pulling double duty as the bartender, mixing his own drinks, which perhaps explains his brusque, distracted manner. The oyster appetizer was tiny. The main courses were all adequate although quite overpriced. The restaurant was loud, even though it wasn't full and the bar was almost empty. All in all, a marginal experience not worth the expenditure.

We had a quiet and enjoyable evening. Karen, our server, was attentive and competent, but not intrusive. Food production was timely and the plating was visually appealing. The only small criticism pertained to my albacore tuna entree. While it was served lightly seared and rare per my request, the center of the cuts was slightly cold on the palate and not warmed as I would have liked. That criticism notiwthstanding, overall, a good evening.

Their March menu was very diverse. Everyone enjoyed their selections. The coffee was bitter (although freshly made), so I had to add a few salt crystals to tone it down. I mentioned it to the waitress, but she had no explanation. The noise level made it difficult to converse with our friends. Still, our friends thanked us several times, saying, "Good choice" (of restaurants).

Maybe we just set a high expectation from this restaurant given the reviews. Maybe we didnt order the right one. We ordered some pasta with shrimp and the lamb shank for the main course, tempura and creamy potato soup for the appetizer. We liked our appetizers, I must say. With the pasta, it's not restaurant-made. You can tell if you're a foodie. The sweet potato gratin that came with the lamb shank is good! but the lamb itself is not. It's too bland. I had to use the au jus to give it any flavor. For the price we paid in this area, we expected better quality. We think, it's not a 5-star quality. Sorry to say this.
