Great evening, we started out at the lounge had a great glass of wine and a wonderful view of West Philadelphia. We had reservations but were not rushed, to sit at our table. When we were seated the staff was fantastic, very attentive. We were seated at a table facing South Philadelphia, lights were shining bright, great atmosphere. The dinner was wonderful, flat bread with truffel, mini cheesteaks. Dinner was exceptional, sea bass with braised pork belly, was not sure of the pairing but it was perfect. Dessert was a perfect way to end the evening!

My fiance took me to R2L for my birthday. I can not speak more highly of the ambiance of this restaurant! Even on a cloudy and rainy night, the view was to die for! Why aren't there more resaturants like this in the city?! All of the tables were spaced far apart from one another... unlike most places where they try to squeeze as many tables in as possible and you feel like you're sharing your dinner with the strangers next to you! To start our meal we ordered a caesar salad and the crabcake appetiser. The salad was VERY salty and the crabcake was so-so (not a whole lot of crab). For our meals, he ordered the filet and I got the stripped bass. The filet was VERY good and the bass had great flavor. All in all it was a great experience.

Great food and service. The fabulous view is an obvious plus. Center City has too many chain restaurants (Capitol Grille, McCormick & Schmicks) - ugh - and not enough fresh choices with interesting menus. R2L is a great alternative. Menu is thoughtful and portion sizes are appropriate. (note to Le Bec-Fin: get with the program. It's not the 1970s. Nobody needs a 6 course meal, no matter how much money we have). Took a client to R2L for a business dinner and meeting - wanted something impressive and this was great all-around. Would be equally suitable for couples or a small group. Great waitstaff. I'll be back.

R2L was good but nothing special, especially for the price. We were seated at a cheap banquet table that looked like it was pulled from a church basement -- I know that it was mother's day and they were busy, but it was not what we were expecting given the expense.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 5/9/2010
Mother's Day Brunch not worth $45/person. Food was good (not great)but not worth that amount. Received 5 small rolls, a piece of salmon and 1/2 waffle, selection of desserts. You are paying only for the view (which is lovely). Not sure I would go back though dinner menu looked cheaper than brunch. Ladies room, though nicely decorated was very dark and I could hardly see myself in mirror. All employees were very nice.

Another really great meal with attentive service. We kept it simple this time and stuck to the Chicken and Salmon. In both cases the accompaniments/sauces are what set these somewhat routine choices ( chicken and salmon) apart. We actually WERE given a window view this time but honestly it's nice but not absolutely necessary. Service was polished and very unrushed!. We'll be back...again! Would like to see a transition to the younger crowd but that will require changing the background music

The best of Stern to date. The only restaurant with a breath-taking panorama view 40 floors up of the city. At dusk and night, it is incredibly romantic and dramatic. The food is creative, delicious, served with style and elegance. Need help selecting your wine, just ask Ryan. Young unpretenious but sensitive and knowledgable wine experts don't come better than Ryan, and he will recommend the cheapest bottle in the house if he thinks it's what you will really enjoy.

Had an excellent dinner at R2L. The room is very cool, you almost feel like you are on a cruise ship that harkens back to the 70's. The food was excellent. Liked the way the entries were divided between signature dishes and then simple preparations. In that regard it was very similar to his other restaurant, Rae. Wine list had some nice options. The only disappointment was the Birthday cake that the restaurant made to order for us. The buttercream frosting was so loaded with sugar, it tasted like and entire bag of cane sugar has been dumped in it. It made your teeth hurt. No of us could finish it, it was basically inedible. But that was a minor blip in an otherwise very enjoyable evening.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/1/2010
Good but not great. The food was quite good but the atmosphere did not live up to the hype. First, too loud for a romantic dinner; second, the ceiling are too low so it feels somewhat closed in and they are unable to have the center tables be significantly higher than the window seats thus the only good seats are at the windows. Despite requesting a window seat with the reservation (and not being told one was unavailable), we did not get a window seat. Also, be wary of being seated facing west as the sun will set over you. All in all it was good; the rabbit taquette was delicious and the steak was done perfectly. Skip the Beignets if you are looking for Cafe Du Monde style.

Everything was near perfect until the desert portion of our meal, then we had to call the busboy over in order to get the waiter to come back to the table and even then his attention was elsewhere for the final portion of the meal. I've gone once before and had a great waiter, but this trip was less than perfect. The views are spectacular (although they seat you in the middle of the restaurant, even with empty tables near the windows). The food is great and very well presented.

First off, I have to commend both the restaurant and Open Table. It was my wedding anniversary and I put in a comment in the suggestions field (not really knowing or believing it would be read) asking for a cozy table and a view. The restaurant, besides being impeccable in every way, sat us at a window with an incredible view AND upon serving dessert, sent us a special plate decorated with Anniversary wishes! I also liked the fact that I got a call back from the restuarant confirming that they recieved the reservation from you. The food was delicious with the chef's personal signature added to traditional dishes, giving the pallet a surprise at every turn. The staff was beyond friendly and accommodating. Thanks so much!

Overall, R2L was great, with a few caveats. Negatives: I made a reservation on-line to specifying that I wanted a widow table to celebrate a special occassion. This was ignored and the hostess sat me at a table away from the window despite the fact that a window table was opening up just behind me. I had to insist twice that I be moved to the window table. Additionally, our server (Barrett) was very nice but VERY slow and inattentive. We had to wait a long time for our drinks throughout the 2 hour meal and we were served food without proper utensils, etc. It definitely detracted from the enjoyment of the night. However, the positives were that the food was excellent and the view was astounding!

The restaurant was lovely, but they did not honor a request I made at the time of booking. We were taking out friends who had just been married, and I requested a table by the window.I was told they would try to accomodate my request.I called the day before to remind them, and the day of our reservation. When we arrived, they did not seat us at a table by the window. The manager came over and said,"we are very busy tonight; we said we would TRY to accomodate you, not that you would HAVE a table by the window".He didn't say, if/when one becomes available, he would move us. Two tables became availble before we had appetizers, and I think we should have been moved to one of the tables by the window. He obviously was saving the tables for others.

Had an early reservation & when I called to confirm for a window, they said no guarantee but at that time not be a problem. Arrived 15 min early for our already early reservation & promptly got seated at a window table that we learned was not great compared to the rest of the window tables (pet peeve-I despise when restaurants put you in the worst seat to see if they can get rid of it early). The table was drafty & we suggested moving worrying our meals would be ruined not to mention I was shivering WITH a coat on, but were assured it would get better. Suffice it to say that the grease on our our overly salty food was congealed within 2 minutes of arriving, and before my side arrived. Our server was no where to be found. Not Philly's best.

The warm shrimp was very good (replacement appetizer), but not worth 20.00. Go here for a fun happy hour, but there are too many other fabulous restaurants to eat a great meal in.
