the vension was perfect, and i also loved the cippolini rings. the oyster rockofeller was a bit too dry, should have used more spinach, the rabbit nachos were very tasty. the shrimp had a overpowering lime flavor. over all it was very good, but not great.

We were pleasantly surprised. We were not fans of Stern's Rae, the food there was too weird and the wait staff was to stuffy but we did enjoy R2L very much. The room is beautiful, the view is fabulous and the food was good too!

I made a reservation weeks in advance and requested a window table which request was acknowledged. I was not given a window table for the 6:30 reservation although all but one was open. I was given the worst table behind a wall section of the windows. I requested a window table and was told none were available. When we left at 8 PM there were still three available and a fouth was just filled. Some one at the bar complained about the sun coming in the windows (this is a 37th Fl restraurant with a view of the sunset). The closed the shade in front of me and would not reopen until later eventhough a request it since from behind the partial wall it was only view if I move my back into the aisle.

Waiter recited the whole mwnu to us --- couldn't understand a word he said. Oysters Rockerfeller - should change description on menu. Not a true OR. Sommelier should know the difference between watery Merlot and bold Cab Menu can't make up it's mind if it is a tapas bar or gourmet with entrees Setting is interesting and should really just be a great bar and club with some food= will comeback to the bar not the restaurant Can't believe there is no way to get from the garage to the restaraunt ---inside.

On a whole, this was a terrible meal and I seriously doubt I would ever dine there again. While the concept was nice having the restaurant located at the top of the building, the food as below average at best. It was expensive and in no wat worth what we paid for our meal.

Overall, the experience was amazing for my wife and I on a date night. The drinks are superb and the bar staff is knowledgeable. The food was not as good as we hoped. My wife and I had the Surf and Turf, the lobster tails were small (about as large as a colossal shrimp). The braised short ribs had the consistency of pulled pork, mushy and salty. The other disappointment was the Oysters Rockefeller, it doesn't describe this on the menu well. The blend inside the half shell is not a traditional Rockefeller taste. It's extremely buttery and laced with a Pesto look and consistency, however, it's not basil, we were told it's Parsley based. The positive, the warm Vanilla cake is delicious as were the Perfect Manhattan and the Jupiter Cocktail.

This was probably the worst dining experience we have had in Philadelphia. R2L is impressive with it's gorgeous view of the city and the uniquely decorated space, but that was as far as our enjoyment went. Service was poor at best. We waited 30 minutes to be seated at tables that were open when we first arrived- with reservations. They didn't give us menus for another 15 minutes, they did offer us a free round of drinks when I complained, but that did little to appease my annoyance. The food was greasy, over dressed, and poorly prepared. My tuna was over-cooked, served with a veal meatloaf and with a lumpy side of mayonaise ladened fish salad. The meat in my husbands surf and turf was a fatty overcooked beed short rib. We will never return!

The food and atmosphere were fantastic! The view is amazing and the way in which the tables are situated, you can have a really romantic dinner. I thought the appetizers and entrees were delicious. The desserts, however, were extremely small portions for the price. $9.00 for 3 small strips of poached pear is outrageous.

Overall, it was a disappointment. The food was not remarkable, which is expected for such prices. The service was slow, we asked for coffee three times before it was delivered. And, the acoustics make it difficult for diners to hear each other. I would not recommend this restaurant for dinner. Perhaps it is a great place for an after dinner drink and the sunset.

I have been to R2L twice in the last two weeks for business dinners. Both times the events went well and I left looking forward to returning. The westerly facing windows are the star of the show. As the sun drops and the colors of the night sky come out, the sunset becomes another personality at the table. The food can be described with a lot of positives but "tasty" has to be one of them. The oombinations and strong flavors are memorable and clear. Out of 12 plates that I saw in my two visits - none were a disapointment (try the rib eye!). Service is that elusive combination of sophisticated and warm. The off-lobby check-in; hostess station is great. Food servers were a bit clumsy. They should have hired up or speed up coaching.

food was exceptional, wait staff was perfect. host was great. hostess was a bit serious to the point she was uncomfortable to talk to. she made me feel foolish for asking for a window table and told me she was making an exception for me. My reservation had been in for weeks and it asked for their best table available so her attitude wasn't necessary. Someone needs to tell her she is in the service industry. They also messed up my bar tab transfer to the table.

Overall, it was great. The only negative was the service. Our server left much to be desired. He was not engaging, was quiet, and seemed to be rushing us out. We observed other servers treating their tables differntly. We ordered 2 appetizers and were slowly picking at them. He came over 3 times and tried to take the plates and appetizers off the table. We had to politely tell him each time we were still working on them. I don't know if there were any dinner specials - none were offered (and that seemed weird). The staff also didn't acknowledge that we were celebrating a birthday, which I specified on the opentable reservation. The concierge that checked us in confirmed the birthday and led us to believe he was passing it on.

The atmosphere is what carries this place for right now. We arrived around 6pm so there was still a good happy hour crowd at the bar. We were immediately seated and our waiter was there within minutes. He asked us what type of water we wanted BUT failed to take a cocktail order. We proceeded to order a shared appetizer which we asked to be brought out first, I ordered a soup and my date ordered a salad and for an entree I ordered a ribeye and my date ordered the ribs. Well, unfortunately they brought out the appetizer at the same time as our salad and soup. They also brought the bread out at that time too. Overall the service needs to improve and the food could use a lot less salt except for my ribeye, it needed flavor of any kind.

This is a phenominal place to bring someone you love for a romantic dinner/special occasion. The food was excellent and the view of the city was breath-taking. however; our server did not provide the service that a restaurant of this caliber would require of their employees. We noticed that other servers appeared to be more attentive to their respective tables. Overall, we loved R2L and everyone deserves a second chance so we look forward to coming again. Hopefully, this particular server will live up to future diners expectations.

The location is unique and well-utilized, but the food and especially service are not befitting of a high-end Philadelphia restaurant. When we arrived, we were told to wait in the bar - had to ask four times to be seated at our table, even though the table was ready (we could see it, and the place was not near full). Bartenders were borderline rude, refusing to discuss what was in a particular drink (saying it was a "secret") -- even though (again) it was not crowded. Our waitress was unenthusiastic, would not give recommendations. A veal dish was significantly undercooked. Dishes were left uncleared for too long. The coffee service included about 1 oz of cream for six people; it took much waving to attract attention of anyone.

Very handsome space. Very good to great food. Lively bar. The view is the best in the city. If you have been to Gayle (which is now closed) expect the same progressive, inventive approach to the food: excellent presentation, preparation, and tastiness. Just more of it! These are generous portions, for those of you who might be concerned. The waitstaff was superb and not overattentive. I saw Daniel Stern, the chef/owner (partner) really working his heart out on the line in the kitchen. No yelling or other chef craziness (he never did that) Just a very efficient crew that delivers an excellent product. I will definitely go again. We did go on a weeknight, which would appear to be the time to go if you want to enjoy the space.
