Good weeknight dinner out on main street. Service and wines by the glass were great, food was good - I had the lamb shank. would go with something else next time. Wife had the smoked portobello fettuccine, and found it very good. Dessert was also great - the payday was just like the candybar!

Haven't been to Stone Balloon for a while, at least not for dinner. We took the opportunity to go during Restaurant Week, and we had a great meal and a wonderful evening. The food was excellent, the service was top rate, and the wines were very good. I would recommend to anyone passing through Newark.

This is our favorite restaurant in Delaware. Consistently good, always creative, and using fresh ingredients. From the appetizers, small plates and main courses.. there all outstanding. The Pastry chef is also doing an amazing job... the Dulce the leche mousse is fantastic! The service is top notch, always paying attention to details, without being intrussive ( TJ has been our waiter the last 3 times, and he's always outstanding). The wine list is solid.

Although generally a fan of Stone Balloon Winehouse, this experience was a mistake. The restaurant had booked several (maybe 6) very large groups for graduation weekend, and the noise level was awful. (Not "energetic," but like being seated in a raucus sports bar with drunken fans.) Not at all a pleasant experience. The food was OK, but, honestly, we could hardly enjoy it.

We have eaten here many times and always had outstanding food and service. The New Year's Eve prix fixe dinner was a huge disappointment. The vegetables were over cooked as was the halibut. None of the items that 4 of us ordered were up to the usual quality that the Winehouse offers. Would not recommend this "special" type meal again. Will try the normal menu once more to see if the total quality has changed.

At $65 per prix fixe plate, it was one of the most expensive meals I've ever paid for. The place looks nice and our waiter was friendly and knowledgable, but it couldn't make up for one of one of the worst tasting meals I've ever had. 1st: Scallops with bacon patte. The scallops were mushy and without flavor. The bacon patte tasted like spam and was nearly inedible. 2nd: Grilled Salad. Lettuce was burnt and soggy and the dressing was a typical vinaigrette. Couldn't finish due to the burnt taste. 3rd: Touratoes of Portobella. The mushroom was rubbery and the whole plate was over powered by vinegar. 4th: Black Cherry Fudge: The tart cherries and ultra sweet fudge created a burning sensation. Inedible after 3 bites.

I've been to Stone Balloon several times and each time has been incredible. It seems like every time I go,there is something new to try on the menu. On this visit it was the crab and brie fondue. Absolutely amazing! It arrived with an assortment of dipping foods. I have to say, the pears tasted phenomenal with the fondue. For the entree, I had the grilled salmon, also fantastic. The wine list is great, however I always stuck with the Selbach Riesling. Delicious. Dessert was the Grasshopper dish. It was a little tough to break the cookie on the bottom, but so good once you got through it. Thank you for another incredible meal!

Food was good, although the place was a bit pricier than I was expecting. For what you get, which is unique, it may be worth it, but I thought my dinner (I got the surf and turf special) I thought there were too many sauces - all mixed together - and it was very pricy.

I have been here several times. This night they were off their game. Waited a very long time to get drinks, at least 10 minutes. We ordered a bottle of wine at one of the cocktail tabless. He just left it on the table, not ice bucket. Then the hostess took us to our table and never offered to take the bottle, so I had to walk through the dining room with a bottle in my hand. Very tacky. Sat at our table upstairs for another 10 minutes and we weren't even approached by our server, so I asked to be moved downstairs. The table next to us was 2 young kids, they were more concerned with their phones than each other. When did this become acceptable in a restaurant? Our server downstairs was great, friendly and very professional.

My friend and I had the Brie and crab fondue, it was amazing! It was a lot for two people as an appetizer, we were both pretty full after that course. We ordered two 3oz glasses of different wines that I have never had before so we could see which one we liked best. That is such a nice feature that you can order smaller glasses of wine so you are able to try a few different ones. We ended up liking one better than the other so we ordered more of that one for our meal. Our meals were fabulous, I got the crab cake and my friend got onion soup and beet salad. All of it was very good and worth the money. The service was impeccable.

What a great meal! I have been in Newark for two weeks on business and this was by far my best meal. I started with the Beets and Sweets (great idea to start you meal with Creme Broulee). The waiter was very knowledgeable about the wine list, steering me away from a Flight of wine that he deemed "too heavy" for my food selections. Instead, he offered a 3 oz white that was perfect for the first course and the main course (I actually ordered the six oz with the meal). I also had the Crab Cakes - delicious and very genrous portion - enough for tomorrow's lunch. I will return and recommend Stone Balloon to anyone visiting Newark.

The service was brilliant! The cheese, meats, and wine were divine. The cocktails were fresh and unique, well worth their cost. When the entrees arrived, we felt like the chefs ran out of ideas and lost all of their creativity. The sides that came with the entrees were less than mediocre. A $29 dollar entree should not arrive room temperature with franchise-like sides. I was expecting color and beautiful plating. There was no finesse in the entrees. The sophistication and elegance of our dining experience was lost once we received our entrees. Because of this we refrained from ordering dessert as a means to prevent further disappointment.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. I decided to try the Stone Balloon Winehouse while visiting with my daughter and her boyfriend, a student at the University of Delaware. I saw the phrase “farm to table” on the restaurant’s website and I thought it fit the occasion for my daughter and her “Food Science”, local foods, culinary enthusiast. The food was elegantly presented and delicious. The Stone Balloon Winehouse was a great choice! I am only sorry that I hadn’t mentioned their passion for culinary arts when booking the reservation! Perhaps we might have met the chef!

We were there for Restaurant Week and had selections from the prix-fixe menu. Having eaten at the restaurant several times previously, I was a bit disappointed with our selections from the Restaurant Week menu; it was as if the chef had tried to do too much--in both dishes there were too many flavors and it didn't quite all come together. The shrimp dish was good but the grits weren't quite done and the other flavors overwhelmed the shrimp. It was nicely grilled but just couldn't compete with the accompaniments on the plate. In the vegetarian option, the central feature--a vegetable patty--was quite nice but, again, the accompaniments were distracting rather than complements.

Very nice atmostphere; brunch was good but not great; our server was very pleasant but service was slow, and he had difficulty getting the order right. It took him three trips back to the table for him to figure out and double check what we'd ordered. Really, it's OK to use a pen and paper rather than try to memorize things! I'd go back though - want to try the dinner menu and wine list.

Our food was quite good except that I did not like the so-called porcini powder on my scallops. Tasted like a mix of powdered sugar and butter. In the past I have not liked the froth of butter that chef often added to things. One of our party commented that dishes sometimes had "one too many ingredients," as tho' chef were trying harder to appear innovative than to attain the perfect taste combination. Still generally a very good restaurant and Newark's best for fine dining.
