The service was great and so was the food. I had the salmon, and it was excellent. My date had the scallops and he was equally pleased with his meal. Very generous portions too. I was also impressed with the wide range of beers they have. I think the waiter said they had 130 varieties. I recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a romantic evening.

good food. good beer. good service. If you go to a tap house, drink their beer, don't order a rolling rock and a miller high life. You haven't discovered anything. You're not cooler for it. You crave attention. It's a desperate call to have people look at you. It screams of emotional instability. You're better than that. Ordering a miller high life at a brewery is like asking for an old banana at an apple orchard in October. There is fresh beer coming out of the wall and you want something that's been shipped across the country, probably a few months ago. That doesn't seem very "hip."

My meal was suppose to come with green beans. Imagine my dismay as a long despiser of brussel sprouts when my meal came to the table with them. I must have had a look of horror on my face because my daughters boyfriend asked if I was ok. I said yes, but I hate brussel sprouts. The waiter came over and was very apologetic. They had run out of green beans, but said he could trade them for anything else. So I looked him and said "you know what? I have always told my kids that they should at least try something they thought they didn't like every so often. Our taste buds change ." So I took a bite. WOW, they were amazing!! they had been roasted with some EVOO and some seasoning. I can't wait to try them home now too.

Our waiter was very helpful. Of course, the beer was good. There was also a nice selection of wine. Our Duck Confit appetizer was great. My bison burger was delicious, juicy and cooked perfectly medium rare. My husband chose the special, scallops and risotto. Again, very good. This is a great place for foodies!

Just had dinner at the 16 Mile Tap House. After reading some downer reviews, wasn't sure what to expect. Pleasantly surprised. You can't do better than their corn soup....Outstanding. The smoked soup was really intense. and we can't wait to have it again. . I had the salad containing beets and brussel sprouts. It was excellent . Hubby had crab cakes which were humongous. He said they were almost all crab meat, and hardly any filler. He loved them. They had been recommended by our neighbors and we totally agree. Only the lemon sorbet was below expectations. The waiter mentioned that the menu is about to change to better match the customer's desires. Hope they keep the soups.....I think its going to be a hit with all of us locals....

I really like 16 Mile's beers, so I was hoping that their restaurant would be similar to places like Iron Hill, Two Stones, or Ulysses. The beers were good, but the food left a LOT to be desired. I think they were trying very hard to make their meals "interesting", but they were just kind of sloppy. The "grilled cheese" was a short rib sandwich with stewed apples, onions, cheddar, and it was supposed to have arugula (mine didn't). The PBLT was similarly disappointing. I'd tell you to go for the beers, sit outside, and enjoy making fun of the college kids on Main Street, but we saw them turn away someone who wanted to sit outside to drink a beer and NOT eat. Poor business practice, especially since that guy had the right idea.

Went for brunch with a friend and had a wonderful dining experience, as usual. 16 mile tap house has, hands down, the best quality food on Main Street. You may think Gelato or Iron Hill have quality food, but this is far beyond. They obtain local foods and get local organic beef. All food is artfully done on the plates to show real care. The food comes out in perfect portions so one does not feel over full at all. We shared an app, got an entree, drink, and dessert each, and I was not over full. I was so satisfied with the ambiance and courtesy of the staff. This was the best meal I have ever had on Main Street...and quite likely the best food I have ever had at a restaurant. The quality of the food is worth what you are paying. Please support this great restaurant!

We enjoyed an excellent dinner at The Stone Balloon. Our reserved table was ready as expected and we were greeted promptly. We enjoyed the brie fondue, veal schnitzel, steak, and despite the quantity of food ordered, I just had to try the bacon-wrapped dates with a chile-pistachio sauce, which proved to be out of this world. The veal was served with a cabbage and potatoes that were cooked to perfection. The only notes that could have been perfected were the portion sizes, which were enormous; I would have been uncomfortable finishing the dish even had I refrained from the dates or dessert, and the desserts, a snickers cheesecake and strawberry creme brulee with champagne strawberries and whipped cream were very good but not stellar.

I thought the main course was delicious, the waiter very social able, friendly and he was very knowledgeable when he was discussing the wine selections. However, I did not care for the dessert. I cannot remember the name of it but it was round balls which had chocolate and peanut butter in it. I thought it would be soft and yummy. Rather it was hard and I felt it was over cooked.

The Stone Balloon Winehouse is only steps away from the University of Delaware campus on a very pretty but very busy street. The total dining experience is wonderful as the food selections and wine pairings are expertly done. There is also a very nice beer list as well as featured cocktails. Everyone in our party was impressed with the food and service and I highly recommend the Stone Balloon as an evening destination. Be advised, thought, that parking is a challenge even though we were there mid-week but this place is well worth the effort.

I have eaten at the Stone Balloon Winehouse several times & they never cease to deliver creative and tasty food. The freshness of the ingredients and the flavor combinations are amazing. For appetizers try the chicken & waffles or the pork belly. Both are absolutely delicious. I am a crab cake snob, so I was wary about ordering the crab cakes (so used to fantastic Maryland crab cakes) but I have to admit that they were very good, and the portion so generous that I had one for lunch the next day. The wine choices are plentiful, if a little pricey, but it's a real treat to be able to get some of these wines by the glass. Highly recommend the Stone Balloon to anyone looking for a superior dining experience in the Newark area.

  • Horrible Food, Pretentious Waiter

Had dinner here on Mother's Day. Not good. The food was awful. I was going to order a vegetable board but don't care for pickled vegetables and really don't care for carrots. When I asked our extremely pretentious waiter if I could substitute something for the pickled vegetables he said he would have to speak with the chef. Really? It's vegetables. He said I could have brussel sprouts and carrots. I said to him, "Let me think about that because I really don't like carrots." I ordered the crab and brie fondue which tasted like neither crab nor brie. It tasted like sugar. So sweet I sent it back. And it was served to me with raw carrots right after I said I don't want carrots. And our waiter was so full of himself it was laughable.
