Two friends from New York City and I had the most wonderful service and food at Acquerello New Yorkers are very picky and my friends are foodies like Gene Burns. They are still raving about Acquerello. They never leave home without a Zagat. I provided mine because I live in San Francisco. We will definitely come back!!! Thanks to all the staff of Acquerello.

This restaurant is consistently beyond compare. Food preparation and presentation are fabulous. The wine list is educational and thorough. The staff is courteous and well versed. Even though Giancarlo has earned a Michelin star, his restaurant is not pretentious. Each question is thoughtfully considered and answered.

Little did I realize how special a Michelin star really is. Having eaten at Acquerello now I know what fine dining really is. Normally I am not a cheese person, but make certain that you save room for the cheese course. There are some very rare finds on the menu. Also take the advice of one of the region's best wine stewards. Finally the service is exquisite, but does not smother you; they take care of your every need, but they make sure that your conversation is never interrupted.

We visited on a Tuesday night, and the crowd was understandably very light. We may have received a bit more attention due to that, but the service was excellent and the staff well-trained. My wife absolutely adored the asparagus ravioli with black truffles, and my American Kobe beef steak was very good. The other courses were good but not outstanding. Good wine list - I enjoy Barolo wines and they had several to choose from, including one by-the-glass. The restaurant has an enjoyable atmosphere with appropriate lighting. I would most certainly recommend for couples and groups.

Wonderful, my girlfiend and I absolutely loved it. Great service, great food, great evening. We both had the three course a la carte: including the parmesan budino, asparagus tortelloni, and the parsley crusted lamb chops. All three were quite enjoyable followed up by dessert which we shared the crusted chocolate-gianduja with amaretti cream. Great for chocolate lovers as we both are. Overall a wonderful experience for the two of us and a must return in the future.

We went for our 10th anniversary, and they remembered the occasion. The service was first-class. The recommended wine was great. In the first course, my wife had a red abalone, and the shell was beautifully iridescent. We asked to keep the shell. Just before we left the waiter brought out the cleaned, dried shell in an Acquerello box: he had not forgotten. The parmesan budino was excellent. The evening was expensive, but worth it!

On my most recent visit, the squab appetizer seemed a bit rare to me (but very good, I am sure it was done as the chef wished it prepared, just my preference). Really wonderful risotto. The American Kobe beef was not as flavorful as other beef I have had at Aquerello, previously. Who would have guessed that? Desert of strawberry meringue with balsamic was incredible. A really lovely place.

Acquerello is a place we reserve to dine for special occasions like out birthdays. We always have a great dining experience. The food is outstanding and the service and wine list to match. We were very disappointed to see the dress code lowered. Around 9:00 p.m., group of 4 people came in. The two men were in t shirts-and not the dressy type-one had an dingy undershirt-fit for a truck stop-not an elegant resturant. We asked when we left if the dress code changes at 9 and she did not have an answer. The waiter said if it was up to him, this would not be allowed. In NY, they would have been turned away. Admitting anyone who is not dressed appropriately should not be allowed to dine. Integrity has been stripped from this elegant place.

Acquerello carries a large variety of Italian wines, which I prefer. There was a long pause between our 3rd and 4th courses and I saw a lot of meals coming out of the kitchen. Must have been a little glitch. I also find it very restrictive that everyone has to order the tasting menu (all or no one) - something about the kitchen not managing it.

The tasting menu was delicious - the portions are big, tasty, unique, the cheese is to die for. The wine menu is excellent - all Italian wines, that are just simply delicious.
