Familiar Italian dishes done right! It's tempting to fill up on the free bread and great sauteed peppers but wait -- the best comes later. Portions are big and the leftovers are great for lunch the next day.

Absolutely superb! My visit to Viaggio Ristorante was one of the best restaurant experiences that I and my friends have ever had. The food was excellent and well prepared, but that was only part of the experience. The ambience of Viaggio's was extraordinarily friendly and attentive. No one could have desired better. And then there was la bella Laura. Our party, on the way to a Lyric performance, arrived at 4:30 PM for a 5:00 PM reservation. We stopped at the bar for a drink and were served by Laura who was charming, friendly and spoke to us as though she had known us forever. Every once in a while what makes a memorable event truly extraordinary is a single facet that gleams in the light--la bella Laura.

We had a very, very disappointing experience. Made 6:00 reservations for 4 thinking we'd have a nice meal before a 7:30 Blackhawks game at the UC. Checked-in w/ hostess @ 5:45 and our whole party arrived by 5:55. Due to overbooking we not get seated until 6:25! Hostess tried to help by taking our food orders while we were waiting but even still we did not get our main courses until 7:00, leaving us 15 minutes to wolf down as much as we could. Cannot give an accurate review of the food since we didn't have time to enjoy it.

If a noise level so loud you can't even hear yourself think, let alone carry on a conversation with your tablemate seated three feet away, is your idea of a good dining experience, then Viaggio is for you. My meal (pork chop) was very good, my wife's (lobster ravioli) wasn't, but it really didn't matter. We couldn't wait to gulp down our food, skip dessert, and get the heck away from the incessant NOISE, which only got worse when they started blasting music out of large speakers. In addition, the tables were jammed exceptionally close together, resulting in an almost mess-hall feeling and the room for the waiters to maneuver was so small they were constantly brushing against me as they made their way by. No thank you!

He genuinely wants you to enjoy your experience. tthe meatball salad is a fabulous combination of flavors as is the tall eggplant stacker. The mussels are as plump and firm as I have seen. This place is definitely staying at the top of our list.

The decor is inviting but the real show here is the food. Authentic Italian dishes, presented in a manner typical of trattoria. Being greeted with fresh bread and plate of roasted peppers bathed in oil is a great way to start of the evening. The mussels were incredible, the pastas and sauces are perfectly cooked and seasoned. We’ve been back four times in the last eight weeks, which says something, and each entrée was outstanding. We have not been disappointed by anything we’ve had. The wine list is very well priced.

Amazing, authentic Italian. You would think in a city of this size we would have a ton of Italian options. We actually do, but most of the options are average. This place is delicious! The appetizers were great the pasta entrees are amazing. I can't wait to go back and try even more items on the menu. Definitely save room for the cannoli. Great location-easy to get to. Particularly convenient if you are going to the United Center. Make a reservation, this place has caught on.

This was our first time to Viaggio. Really enjoyed the food and service. Noise level was bit high, but what was really distrubing was the cigarette smoke that wafted into the restaurant's open front from smokers at the bar next door. I thought smoking was prohibited within 15 feet of entrances, but apparently this establishment doesn't follow laws. I was really tempted to call the city the next day. We'll come back in the winter when the front doors are sealed and the smokers can freeze their butts off in the street.

Executive Chef Vic Purdue was at his best this past Monday. We started with a generous portion of fresh Mussels in a light tomato sauce with crisply toasted rounds of Italian bread. You could easily make a meal of this appetizer. His sauces were exceptional with just the right hint of spices. The Veal Viaggio was cooked to perfection in a tomato basil sauce that supported but did not overpower the meat. The chicken saltimbocca was tender and moist with an incredible sauce that was created with fresh local ingredients. The tiramisu, made at the restaurant, was light and fluffy and very worth saving room for. The best of southern Italian cuisine in Chicago.

Ok seriously this place was a pleasant surprise. Chicago has MORE than enough italian restaurants to say the least. But this place stands out on its on. Let's start with the service. Our waiter had a great sense of humor and loads of energy and just made the evening entertaining. All the food was better than your average Italian restaurant. The fish, both salmon and red snapper were perfectly prepared, large in quantity and was paired with just the right sides to complimented both perfectly. Other dishes we had were black lenguine w/shimp, veal, chicken parmesan, and a shrimp appetizer. All were great and the ambiance was perfect.

Fantastic find! We went to Viaggio because we were heading to the Cavalia show and it looked like a cute place to go for dinner within walking distance. Michael, who I believe is either the owner or manager, was attentive and entertaining. Now for the food -amazing!! Some of the best Italian food I've had in a long time. We shared the calamari, which was deep fried, but tossed in a tasty, slightly spicy tomato sauce and drizzled with balsamic. My boyfriend had one of the pasta specials and loved it. I had the ravioli with meatballs which was unbelievable!! Can't wait to go back!!
