This was an outstanding experience. I invited a friend and wanted to celebrate her birthday. They surprised her with a lovely dessert and a Happy Birthday message written in chocolate. It was a great experience and worth every penny!!

Apparently, the view from the top of the hotel is great. However, from where wwe weree sitting no view of the White House. - the Lafayette is on the ground floor. The young Maitre D was kind and friendly, as was everyone, but there was one BIG mistake that I was shocked about: they came carrying the plates with our main menu before we had even finished our entrees. My lunch partner was literally still The main manu, rockfish, was beautiful in taste, though it felt as though the meal had been left standing for at least 5 minutes before being served to us. No complaints however of the taste of any of the dishes - or the wine for that matter.

We Highly recomend Lafayette Resaurant if you are EVER in the DC area. The Hotel and Resturant are 5 STAR but should be much higher. Thank you all for making our TRIP SO SPECIAL**We had Dinner and Breakfast at Lafayette.

The Maryland crab cakes (served restaurat style) were absolutely delicious! They melted in your mouth and if you didn't know otherwise, you'd think you were eating lobster. The service was impeccable and the fresh-made desserts were to die for. I'll definitely be returning on my next visit to DC.

This restaurant is an absolute gem! The planted orchids, china, tablecloths, decorative details, and attentive service come together for an exquisite dining experience. OpenTable Diner Since 2007

This restaurant is located across the street from the White House and has plenty of windows so that it is easily viewed from all seating. There is a grand piano in the center of the restaurant and a man was playing it (at a nice volume) throughout our meal. The food was excellent, but the service was AMAZING. Our waiter was a man named Milon (I'm not sure if that is the spelling) and he was extremely charming, humorous, and polite. It was my husband's birthday and he made the evening very special for us. This restaurant is great for history buffs and foodies alike. We will return.

Advertisements for the restaurant were deceiving about rooftop dining. The rooftop is only reserved for special functions. We went there specially for the rooftop and never saw it. Food was over priced for what it was, and they forgot a main ingredient for one of the appetizers. Service was friendly and ambiance was pleasant with fresh orchards on the tables and a piano player. Nice location near the white house for walking after.

There is no reason to eat at this restaurent unless one is staying at the Hay-Adams Hotel where it is located. The food is good without being original or outstanding in any way...ambiance is somewhat stiff and dressy. Very good for celebrity spotting and pretending to be a power-broker, especially at breakfast.

I was not particularly enthralled with the vegetable soup. I felt it was too weak. The service was excellent and the staff was very accommodating. My companion liked the salad and we both were very pleased with our entree selections. The hotel, bar and restaurant are all historic gems. It was a perfect spot for lunch to celebrate my companion's admission to the U. S. Supreme Court. We needed to get back to the Capitol for an afternoon tour with our group and the efficient yet unobtrusive service allowed us to enjoy a fairly leisurely lunch and still make it in time for our tour. We returned after the tour to meet my son and daughter-in-law in the bar for a drink. We were also very pleased with the service and ambience there.

I went for a breakfast meeting, and while the food is always good, they dining room wasn't ready to open when i arrived. I was a few minutes early, but there were supposed to be open 30 minutes before I got there in terms of posted times. I was asked to wait in the lobby, and then no one came to get me when they did open....I had to walk back up and check for myself after 15 minutes, and found they were open and had seated others. It wasn't huge, but it started the meal out wrong. Since it's an extremely expensive, highly reputable restaurant in a top hotel, I didn't expect this.

I brought my husband here for his birthday. The service was outstanding with helping him celebrate. They even brought out a birthday dessert. The food was very enjoyable with full flavors. My one complaint is that I thought we were booking a reservation with a "view" of Washington. The website was deceiving because I thought we would be on the top floor to enjoy a romantic meal over-looking the city. The only view we had was the Metrobus and other diners' heads.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2004

I have already called the manager. This was the most miserable Easter brunch of my life. We were overcharged for mediocre food. I was was told there would be free appetizers and drinks and a special menu when booking the reservation. I was also told the price would be $25 more than usual due to Easter and the "special menu." Only to get there and be told drinks were a la carte, we could have soup or salad and the menu items were undesirable and under par with the normal menu which is on the website. My mom's eggs were so under done even the white part was runny. I told my parents they would have to come back to town to try on a regular weekend and they said they never want to go there again. I have more to say, but am out of space.
