Everything was excellent. Our only criticism is that when we were ready to leave, it took an extraordinary amount of time to get our bill, an extraordinary amount of time for someone to take it when we were ready to pay, and an extraordinary amount of time to get the credit card receipt back to sign -- all total, close to an hour.

What a great find! This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend and I loved it! Our server was exceptional - she was knowledgable about the menu, the wine selection, and generally very enthusiastic. The food was delicious and the ambiance was great as well.

Although we live locally, we had not yet visited Halcyon. We were not disappointed. First off, the service was excellent, with our server being professional, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about the food. She was attentive without being annoying, and the timing of our dishes was perfect. We had booked early, as it was the only time available, and the place was empty at 6:30 when we arrived. However, it was jumping by 7:30. The dishes were well prepared with attractive presentation. The wine list was good and overall we were very satisfied. It is not inexpensive, but comparable to many of Montclair's restaurants. Only complaint is that is was noisy when filled with patrons. I would return and recommend to others.

We waited over 30 minutes for our table, service was haphazard at best & the noise level was deafening. The food, however, was quite good & we would return, but not on a weekend.

Food was very good - finally a good fish place in the area. The downside - it was beyond loud - rock concert loud. You could only speak to the person next to you if you leaned in and screamed.

The food was great, but we sat at a table close to the bar. Unfortunately, those at the bar were a bit too energetic. It was difficult to communicate across the table. We would definitely go back, but sit as far away from the bar as possible.

  • "Brasserie" plates big enough

"Brasserie" plates big enough for dinner for not-so-big eaters. All excellently prepared, service impeccable (by which I mean attentive without being annoying!) Tuna tartar "amazing" according to my husband and my friend drooled over the fish tacos. Only downside: the noise. Its substantial - make no mistake about it. Wonder how it might be on a weeknight instead...

My husband and I have eaten here once before. We went there with family. This time it was a date night for us and again lived up to our expectations. Our server was attentive, knowledgable and friendly. The food was DELICIOUS. I had Chilean Sea Bass that melted like butter in my mouth. Great drinks great atmosphere. A little bit on the noisey side, but overall a great time.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2010

Our table was ready, although the hostess needed help finding our reservation, the bread was cold but tasty and the service was prompt (although our server didn't know the price of the specials). The house bacon (pork belly) was too tough (inedible) on the outside and greasy (in a bad way) in the center. The collard greens were still leathery and needed more time in the pot. The shoft-shell crab was delicious as was dessert. The atmosphere is upscale, the bar was packed with friendly chattering and drinking. A nice vibe.

The food was excellent! I brought my husband there because I had such a wonderful meal there with friends recently. They have great choices for seafood lovers and those who don't like it so much. Awesome appetizers as well! The one thing I wasn't impressed with either time was the service. Both times our waitress was very friendly, but very slow. One waitress seemed to have a difficult time understanding our drink orders, the second time the waitress was just extremely slow (didn't come over to us until we were sitting there for about 7 min, very slow to take orders and bring check, etc.). But, everyone was very nice. I would try it again and hopefully the service will be a little better!

Tables are small and crowded. Food was in large portions but not too sophisticated. Lots of fried items. The $45 bottle of wine we ordered was bad and the restaurant took it off the bill. this would be a good place for a beer, burger and fries while sitting at the bar; not a place for more formal dinner. Wait staff was very nice. Cocktails were excellent.

First of all, The food at the Halcyon Seafood Brasserie is nothing short of spectacular. My wife and I were just knocked out by how good everything was. The prices for the food are moderately high but we felt the quality and size of the portions justified the cost. However, the drinks are ridiculously expensive. We were charged $13 for Grey Goose Martinis. We arrived at 6:30 on a Friday evening and the place was about half full. We were able to appreciate the beautiful decor and ambiance. But as it got later and the room filled, up the noise level became unbearable. Also, the level of service dropped considerably. Our wonderful waitress was stretched way to thin by the increase in diners.

This was our second time visiting Halcyon. Fish is very fresh but the food was better the 1st time. Apps: Seared Tuna - Very good, Fried Calamari, Shrimp, Scallops - Good, Beet Salad - Good. Dinners - Whole Chicken with Fingerling Potatoes was Good and large size portion, Fish n Chips - little over done but still Fish was very Fresh, Scallops - could have been seared more but was also very fresh, Encrusted Cod - Delicious large piece of fish, and Whole Branzino - Fish was very good but waiter doesn't debone at the table for you. Overall experience was good. The place is a very nice but food experience was better on our last visit.
