  • WAY to loud. Drug store seating

Food was excellent. However, it was WAY too loud for my tastes. It was packed - even on a Wednesday night - so obviously most people don't mind. Also, much of the seating (even for those of us with reservations) is countertop seating. Felt like I was in an old Woolworth drug store (with great food). I don't intend to go there again. Too many other places with similarly great food but much better ambiance.

I have been here about 20 times. This was my worst experience. Staff wasn't friendly and the food really wasn't that good. Our waiter had a wrinkled t-shirt on. I'm happy you finally have some competition in Ft Point.

No matter the dish selection, this place is a winner! Went here 3 times during this visit (attended a convention this trip, and shared the experience with different customers....all loved the food at Sportello. Does that say it all? Probably been here 25+ times. The Stozzapretti is a dish that I dream about...and usually have it every other time we come here

My wife and I were in town for just two days to give a talk, and were looking for a fine Italian restaurant both of us being of Italian heritage. We looked for a local place closer to South Boston. All the previous reviews are right on the money. This is the best and tastiest pasta, salad and desserts you will have anywhere. Don't let the counter type setting put you off. It's the food that is the draw and it will not disappoint. There are a handful of tables for small groups even a twosome. The waitstaff is experienced and helpful. We were so thrilled that we canceled reservations at the fish restaurant the second night in return for another round to taste our way through their menu with friends. We highly recommend this Italian gem.

My husband and I ate at Sportello last Thursday night. We've eaten here 5-6 times in the last year - generally on each trip to Boston. The meal this time was our very best meal ever at Sportello. We started with the arugula salad with goat cheese and grapes and the asparagus salad. I never had the arugula salad before and it was great! We followed up with the Garganelli and the Strozzapretti. The Strozzapretti is my all time favorite at Sportello - braised rabbit, green olives and rosemary. It really is an amazing dish. The Garganelli was new for me and nearly as good as the Strozzapretti. We ate at the counter, which I always enjoy. The staff is always friendly and knowledgeable. Fun people, great food and a fun place!

The waiter said they were noted for pasta and it was outstanding. The black bass was perfect with seasonal wonders. Arugula salad could have had more interesting inclusions or lots more fennel, while the asparagus salad was perfect. Scene was lively. One felt great just being there!

We were greeted warmly and led to one of the few tables that was not counter seating. Decor is bright, clean looking with a modern diner vibe. The tagliatelle bolognese was some of the best in the city and the coconut cake was to die for! Just wine and beer-. Go downstairs to Drink for cocktails (if you can get through the door). All in all a fun and delicious experience in one of my favorite locations.

When I trust in a restaurant to serve Italian, I get the gnocchi. Sportello did not disappoint, as the dish I ate had fluffly pillows drenched in a creamy white sauce with unassuming peas and flavorful mushrooms. Delicious!!! The service was outstanding and felt personal (probably helped that we were at the counter by ourselves), and they were considerate of my friend, who didn't want mushrooms on her pasta. The cheese appetizer was good, though the portion was a bit on the small side. This is my second time at Sportello and I would recommend it for foodies! Also check out Drink nearby if you like your artisan cocktails.

The place was packed and very lively. We had cocktails downstairs at Drink first, but if you want to do this allow plenty of time as the line for Drink can be very long. The spicy tomato soup and the strozzapretti with rabbit were delicious. The counter seating allowed us to see what everyone else was eating and so I felt like I got a look at much more of the menu.

I had made my reservation through OpenTable for 6:00pm on 4/26 and had received a confirmation email just that day that stated 6:00pm. However, at about 5:45pm I received a voice mail from Sportello informing me that I had a 5:30 reservation and that they would only hold my table for 15 minutes. I called them back and was informed that my reservation in their system was for 5:30 -- despite the multiple emails I had received from OpenTable that said 6pm. It was very clear to me from the tone of the person with whom I spoke that she was frustrated and did not believe me; I had been looking forward to this dinner and this interaction really upset me to the point that I didn't really enjoy the dinner. I will not be going back any time soon.

I chose Sportello to celebrate our 2 year anniversary and it could not have been more perfect. The food, ambiance and service was amazing from start to finish. A big part of that was the general manager Heather. She was sweet, bubbly, helpful and fun and made it a great night. We loved all the food and they even brought a dessert at the end that said Happy Anniversary. After dinner we bypassed the line at Drink and went right in. They even gave us free champagne! It was an amazing night, with surprises at every corner, and I couldnt have been happier. We will definitely be back to Sportello and all the other Barbara Lynch establishments!

Our evening at Sportello was just grand. We made a reservation in advance of our trip to Boston and chose to go on my husband's birthday. When we arrived, we realized they didn't have a full bar (they have wine and beer), which was mildly disappointing since my husband's drink is a scotch, neat. I expressed my surprise to the waitress who, surreptitiously, discerned my husband's favorite scotch and brought him a glass of Balvenie 12, neat, with a lit birthday candle taped to the glass! What a wonderful gift! What service! And, the food was wonderful---the octopus and the gnocchi and the rabbit and the beet salad--all superb.
