This place is always good. We went here late last Saturday after seeing the BSO perform. We got there an hour before they closed for desert and espresso. Eventhough we got there an hour before they close, we were greeted with smiles, good service, great desserts and even better cappuccinos. This is not the first time we have been here ( we have been here many times before) and plan to visit more regularly.

From the outside it doesn't look very big, but once you step inside it is surprisingly spacious. We visited here after my daughters recital at the Peabody- since it was within walking distance. The food was excellent, and because we were in a rather large group we were able to try a great assortment. Nothing was disappointing. Fit for foodies, but also simple choices like the bistro burger- which is one of my favorites. My only qualm is how long it took to get our drinks. The bar seemed to be completely separate from the restaurant and our food had almost come out by the time they came. That being said- the Food was delicious, and he desserts were exquisite.

The Escargot appetizer was scrumptious. I had the Wolf Fish which was cooked to perfection, sauce lacked seasoning and the Crawfish in the sauce were very over cooked . They were chewy. Told our server, he took my comment to the cook. The cook told him that this is how they were supposed to be, Really?? Chewy Crawfish in a sauce? The service was very friendly, they were not hovering, they let us have our space. Waiter was great, offered to change my dish, bring an extra order of something. Really tried to make our experirence a positive one, even after the chewy Crawfish. Desserts were fantastic, pastries that we bought to take home were delicious. Overall, a good experience. Our young friend really enjoyed herself and liked the restaurant!

the mac n'cheese apetizer was really good. I had the lamb burger entree. I requested it to be medium well, but it was more well done and a little dry. My wife had the grilled salmon on a bed of veggies. It was well seasoned. My biggest issue was the waiter. He didn't mention the specials for the day. We heard it from another waitress handling another table.

Excellent menu choices, food quality, presentation, and service. This small bistro is a winner....we feel like we're in Paris-not Baltimore. The home made desserts are killers....hard to decide which to choose. We love it here and will be back again!

True bistros are unassuming, uncomplicated, and unpretentious. That's what you get here--a thoughtfully constructed menu of fresh, well-prepared French food served in a comfortable and casual environment by a friendly and attentive staff. What brings me here most, though, is an exceptionally well curated list of predominately French wines that constantly impresses with tremendous QPR. Being in the wine industry, I know what many of the hidden gems are for exceptional value, but Marie Louise Bistro threatens to expose all of my secrets. The list represents wines that are meant to be enjoyed with their fantastic food, good friends, and with little impact on the wallet. A brilliant place I wish was in my neighborhood.

So we arrive at this quaint little place and I am impressed by the decor and ambiance. We are seated immediately, but no one comes to even get us water for quite a while. It's not like they were busy, there was one other table of 4, and another table of 2, other than our table of 2. So there was no reason the service should have been that slow. We had the mac n cheese appetizer which was good. Neither of us were impressed by our entrees. I had the almond crusted chicken and grilled peach sandwich. Though the fries were good, I would never order that sandwich again. My wife had the beef beef bourguignon and it wasn't anything special. For dessert I had the chocolate and pecan tart. It was nothing special.

We have always enjoyed ML but the new smaller menu is lacking. My partner has always enjoyed the linguini with clam sauce but is now gone from the menu. This dish brought us back to ML frequently when in Mt. Vernon but I am afraid we may not be back for awhile.

Food good as always. Great coq a vin and duck confit endive salad was delicious. Service has never been fast but the kitchen was particularly slow, one hour to get main courses ordered at 6pm on a week night when there were 3-4 tables at the time we ordered. We didn't have time for coffee with a reservation 2hrs &15 min before our 8pm show.

We had a theater afterwards, so we kind of rushed ourselves and didn't have an opportunity for a full meal. But what we had was very good to excellent. Service seemed a little off, I think they were busier than they had planned - but the staff was very friendly and helpful when available. I would definitely recommend it and plan on visiting it again (hopefully when I'm not so rushed).

Arrived early and had great drinks at the bar upstairs. The bartender was excellent. It was my second time here and the dinner was not as good as the first. We ordered mussels and frites as an appetizer and only mussels arrived. About 10 minutes later I asked about the frites and then they did come, but by that point the mussels were mainly gone. My date's coq-au-vin was excellent. My beef beourginon (sp?) was only OK and did not appear to have any carrots.

I had the steak night special. I would advise diners to skip that one, actually. The steak was merely average, and steak night at City Cafe just down the road is both better and cheaper. Diners at Marie Louise should go for the actual French stuff, like the cassoulet, the salad nicoise and the duck salad. Those are good. Their desserts are also very good, and our server impressed us by knowing the names and descriptions of all the desserts on the dessert tray. The restaurant is, oddly enough, usually not very crowded on weeknights. People don't know what they're missing. This is a little on the pricier side, so not the best deal in the neighborhood, but very good food if you get the right things.

Marie Louise Bistro has been a favorite place to dine because of its pleasant atmosphere and good food for a long time. On our last visit (April 2013) we were pleasantly surprised by its more diverse menu with expanded vegetarian options which would be attractive to vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. Reasonable prices, a pleasant atmosphere and the expanded menu make it an attractive dining destination on Charles Street. Marie Louise Bistro is also a great place for dessert and coffee later in the evening. Their dessert offerings are dangerously irresistible and the coffee is excellent.

While our waiter was prompt and attentive, the delivery of the main course was unusually delayed. When it arrived, the food was delicious and attractively served. The wait, however, for the simple bistro fare we'd ordered, was lengthy given the fact that the room had begun to clear by that time and the rush was obviously over. This issue was disappointing, but would not keep us from coming back to a very enjoyable venue.

We were looking for a light dinner before atending a concert at the Meyerhoff. Our "usual" place had no reservations available, so using the Open Table list of alternatives in the area, I selected Marie Louise Bistro. On street parking was readily available. The staff was very friendly and helpful and we were seated immediately in a more intimate portion of the restaurant, which was very nice. We concentrated on the appetizers on the menu. The steamed clams in garlic was excellent and the broth it was served in was a great accompaniement to the bread served with it. Their French onion soup was the best I've had in a long time. My wife also enjoyed her seared tuna. Their desserts are excellent. We will return soon to try more of their Menu.

I've tried to like Marie Louise Bistro but every time it has rubbed me the wrong way. This time it was the hostess, who was rather prickly and unfriendly. And then our server who got our orders wrong and left us with empty water glasses for long stretches of time and seemed to forget about us. Everyone who works there seems, frankly, put out to have to be there at all let alone providing a positive experience for their guests. And then the food was - pretty much - meh. It's such a pretty spot in the front part of the restaurant --- too bad they are all in such a bad mood all the time!

I had dinner on a very quiet Sunday evening with only a few tables of dinners present. The French Onion soup was good. Unfortunately, the chicken with artichokes and red pepper was bad. The restaurant used marinated artichokes which gave the dish an overwhelming salad-vinegar taste. I will not return.

I've know many people (whose opinions about food I trust very much) who just rave about this place, so I keep giving it chance after chance. Best of the night was the French Onion Soup -- plenty of melted Swiss. We probably should have stopped there. Beef Bourguignon was an all right thick stew, slightly sweet, came as described, but was bland, missing some zip, didn't really even taste like a burgundy-based sauce. Salad Niçoise hewed close to the classic, excepting the grilled ahi tuna (been through a few freeze/re-thaw cylces, was somewhat mushy); garnishes were traditional and complementary. Dessert was a Grand Marnier Tart served very cold, rather hard to eat. My dining companion summed it up best: "series of small disappointments."

After a week working a conference, we'd already enjoyed the usual Baltmore staples. I was in the mood for French; my co-worker wanted steak. We found ML in the Mount Vernon section. An apparently popular patisserie in the front of the house made the short wait for a table a bit awkward. The Saturday evening clientele were casual, happy and relaxed; the exposed brick walls and tin ceilings added to a relatively high noise level. Food was very good: piping hot onion soup with real gruyere was just what I wanted; the zucchini/vegetables over cous cous was good, also served piping hot, but lacked seasoning. The EXCELLENT house steak came with steamed veggies and great french fries very reasonably priced. Attentive and efficient service, too.
