I had wanted to try this place for awhile and there were good aspects to my visit and some not so great as well. We sat outside and it was beautiful if a bit noisy. Lots of opportunity to people-watch which was nice. The food we ordered was tasty, though the portion size of the salad (particularly the protein included, fish in my case, I thought was a bit small). The real bug-a-boo about this place, as others have mentioned, is the service. It was SLOW. Our waitress was friendly enough, but we definitely waited at least 30 minutes for our food and our water glasses were empty for a good 15 minutes before someone thought to come over and fill them. If the service improved I would return. It's in a pretty spot and has great potential!

The food was dry and tasteless. The staff was a confused mob of clock watchers. Will never go back! This was not a french fare. Reminded me of the many sub par English eateries that have built a laughable reputation of "British cuisine".

  • The most reliable french cuisine
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 5/27/2010
The most reliable french cuisine in Mount Vernon, possibly Baltimore. The menu features french staples like beef bourguignon and duck confit, but also has more typical fair like chicken chesapeake and a burger if your fellow diners aren't brave enough to try French food. This is a great place for a foodie to take a non-foodie. My personal recommendation is for the beef bourguignon which is good enough to make Julia Child swoon.

I've loved this 'neighborhood gem' for dinner, but our first experience with brunch was quite disappointing. Granted, it was Mother's Day and perhaps they were overwhelmed by the crowd. Nonetheless, even with our reservation, we were asked if we'd mind sitting upstairs - which we did not undestand meant bar service. That would have been fine, except the bartender was far too busy to do an adequate job. It took forever to get coffee, then refills and our meals were slapped in front of us with dry toast and no further inquiry or opportunity to request butter or jam. With so many other great breakfast/brunch spots, I'm not sure I'll want to try it again.

What a great little restaurant! We had dinner there on Saturday evening and by 6 pm, the place was entirely filled. No wonder--food is excellent and so reasonably priced. My husband and I had the Chicken Artichoke entree and is was absolutely delicious, a very generous portion and quite tasty. Our friend had a burger which was large and looked wonderful with a generous portion of fries. The only downside is the service was a bit slow but we allowed plenty of time so it was not a problem. Would definitely recommend this to those looking for a pleasant dining experience, generous portions and great food at reasonable prices.

We first found this when visiting a new student at a local University in the area. The menu has something for everyone, and it's all wonderful. Prices are moderate, service is friendly and attentive, the food is very good. Only been for lunch/brunch. It's exactly as you would expect a bustling bistro to be.

All three of us had the duck cofit. The duck was exceptional, crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The couscous and vegetables that it was served with were a little bland. We loved the chocolate purse dessert. It was hard to choose they all looked so good. We enjoyed the casual atmosphere and reasonable prices.

I love this place, and have brought many friends here since I just discovered it 3 weeks ago. I plan to go back, but we did have a bad experience at the bar. A friend ordered a glass of wine which was "turned"; we had had the wine before and knew how it usually tastes (not to mention we are experienced enough to know when a bottle has been open too long). The bartender almost refused to open a new bottle, telling us that "it will just taste the same way." But she did give a new glass, and it was good, not at all like the previous glass. She did not speak to us the rest of the evening, we even had after dinner drinks at the bar, and we were hurried out at the end of the evening. This is unacceptable when you have spent $200 for dinner

Our first experience at Marie Louise was pleasant. The food was very nicely prepared, and the quantities were just right. Service was spotty. Our server interchanged our wines. Main course arrived before one of us had not finished the starter, crowding the small table and adding a sense of urgency to finishing the salad. We shall return at some point.

This is a great find. The food was faabulous. Shrimp and mushroom bisque was divine! They were very busy and I waiter was less than attentive. Water glasses were not filled unless we asked and we waited a while for the waiter after we finished eating. He never asked if we wanted dessert. So I will go again and try another wait staff.

This was the first time that my Fiancee and I went out to Marie Louise Bistro. We thought the food was fantastic! I had the Beef bourgouinion (Sorry about the spelling) which was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing (I will go back again and get the same thing)! My fiancee had the portobello mushroom dish off the vegetarian menu. I had a taste of it and we were both fully satisfied! We each had a glass of wine with the meal and finished it off by sharing a cookies 'n cream gelato. The whole meal was great and it was only $50. We will definitely go again.

  • Our Valentine's Day dining
    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 2/13/2010
Our Valentine's Day dining experience was not what we had hoped. Though we were on time for our reservation, we were asked to wait 20 minutes at the bar. This was not so bad until we started noticing people who had come in after us be seated before us. Apparently forgotten, we had to ask a hurried waitress if we could seat ourselves at a table we saw open. Then, due to an apparent understaffing, we waited inappropriate lengths of time for service (and listened to other customers complaining of the same). Ultimately, though the French Onion soup was very tasty and the appetizers quite nice, the entree (pork and duck) was overcooked, dry, and bland, and did not justify the poor service. I hate to be so critical, but we likely won't return.

We (a group of 12) enjoyed the atmosphere. They kindly set us up in a semi-private area that was conducive (as well as could be expected) to conversation within a large group. Everyone stated that they enjoyed the food, which was tasty and plentiful. Our one complaint was that for a group of this size, we were assigned only one server. Consequently, service was slow, with some being served while others had to wait a considerable amount of time for their food. We also experienced difficulty when it was time to leave. It appears the computer went down, but our waiter didn’t communicate that with us and we were left wondering what happened to him. Someone from the party finally went in search of him and he then explained the situation. We unde

We made reservations; however, when we arrived they were not able to seat us, as our table was not available or ready. Apparently, a large tour bus arrived unexpectedly, shortly before our reservation time. We waited about 10 minutes for our table. A little crowded at the table for five, but doable. Most of the food was quite good-Lamb Burger, Duck Salad; however, when it came to the turkey sandwich, it was described very differently from what it actually was. A vegetarian was our server and she did not know meat. She had told the table the turkey was a cooked at the restaurant and sliced to order...Au contraire! It was deli turkey breast and not freshly roasted on the premises! A big difference and disappointment!!!

Our server, although sweet, seemed a bit clueless. For example, bread was brought to the table but there weren't any bread plates (by another person). When my husband asked for a bread plate she came back holding a stack of them but only placed one in front of him and the rest of (3 more people) did not get one as she walked away quickly. She never asked if we'd like coffee refilled either. The food was very good, but some of the portions were quite small. I think we'd give it another try and perhaps the service will improve.
