  • Avoid the Sunday Maître d'

We went to the Oak Room for Christmas. What a treat! The only disappointment was the maître d'. He did not have our reservations and didn't know how to handle it. It was very embarrassing to us and other diners who were made to wait while the man struggled for some time. Fortunately, the head waiter took over and seated us at the perfect table and made sure we were happy.

One of the best dining experiences I've had to date. The service was attentive without being too pushy and the mean was divine! I will certainly be back, regardless of the cost. This restaurant certainly epitomizes that one gets what one pays for! Brilliant!

Took my parents for my mother's birthday. Server was so charismatic and knew the menu well with excellent recommendations with respect to taste and 'worth.' A very traditional but exceptionally beautiful ambience due to the architecture of Copley.

Our first time dining in the Oak Room, came for RW but ordered off the regular menu instead. The food did not disappoint, hot seafood appetizer, ribeyes, lobster tail, scallops, lamb chops, and the waiter gave us 3 complimentary desserts on top of the 1 that we already ordered. $700 bill for 6 people...great dining experience, I would come back.

  • The Oak Room is a bit "different"
    Fmilder
    Dined on 6/15/2010
The Oak Room is a bit "different" -- you have to walk through the hotel's bar to go through a door and find the hidden restaurant which was half-filled. Our waiter was charming, with an accent, and constantly told us that he would take good care of us. Alas, he disappeared a couple of times, once as I was about to order! Drinks are remarkably expensive. There are three levels of steak on the menu -- Kobe, the restaurant's version of Kobe, and regular. We got one of the mid-level, and one of the regulars, and the mid-level was plainly superior. At these prices, they should only offer the mid and the Kobe! Overall, it is hard to justify the Oak Room when there are so many steak houses that are more satisfying, at lower prices

Excellent food with a very elegant ambiance. We went for breakfast & everything was stellar. My only note is that we dined before 11 AM on Sunday so we weren't able to order anything alcoholic (mimosa, bloody mary) - you may want to keep that in mind when making your reservation!

I was very surprised by our experience at The Oak Room. As a Hotel Manager I normally recommend the restaurant fairly often to customers. Everything we experienced while dining at The Oak Room was not as expected. The reputation is gold-clad but the service and food did not live up to the hype. For its high price, we were expecting the best cut of meat we'd ever had, but our medium-rare steaks were dry and flavorless. The dining room decor is top notch but we were met with a rude and snooty server who made us feel unwelcome. Overall we left with a bad taste in our mouths and wallets.

It doesn't get any better than a romantic dinner for two at The Oak Room. There aren't many places that truly combine outstanding food with outstanding service, but this restaurant does. Our headwaiter was a true professional who knew the menu inside and out and could discuss details of the preparations make thoughtful suggestions based on our preferences. The wine steward demonstrated similar expertise in choosing from the extensive cellar. It's expensive, but you can definitely get your money's worth here.

Food for restaurant week was poor. Flat Iron Steak is an awful cut of meat, this restaurant went cheap during restaurant week while other places were serving delicious NY Strip Steaks or flavorful Hanger Steaks.
