My husband and I usually come to this establishment every couple of months and each and every time the service and food has been fantastice. The breakfast and weekend brunch menu has a good amount of selection. Great scenic view across the street from beach. The lunch and dinner menu however is a little limited.

I started coming here a few years ago and was impressed with the service, presentation of food, the food itself, and the beautiful scene looking out into the ocean. Over the years the menu continues to change, the food has gotten worse, but I still came back for the views and the service was pretty good. This last time, the food was terrible, the service was uncaring and sloppy, and I've decided it is no longer worth coming for the view. Everything has gone down in quality to the point that I am still shocked at how bad the food was.

Went here for brunch on a Sunday. Restaurant was empty. Service was slow. Server said there were not enough glasses for multiple drinks...not sure what that was about, we had a party of 6 and there was no one else in the restaurant. I was embarassed that I had my friends drive all the way across town to meet me there. The view was nice, food was alrght, but the service was not up to par.

We had the window seating and the ocean view was amazing. I normally do not care for brunch but this one is not bad. However, be aware they charge for each cup of coffee not refills. I have been to this restaurant for dinner and they have a fantastic dinner menu and very reasonable.

Thought this place was great. My only complaint was that it was nearly empty when I visited on a Thursday, which seemed odd for a place by the ocean with such a great view. The food was fantastic, the service was wonderful, and it's an awesome place to hit up for quality small plates. I will definitely be back.

Despite its unassuming location (tucked behind the lobby area of Santa Monica"s Shangri-La hotel) this place boasts one of west LA's most imaginative and under-appreciated kitchens. They're superbly skilled and inventive with their flatbread appetizers, and consistently outstanding with their grilled fish. A simple but elegant yuzu lemon meringue dessert is also tremendous.

Cannot believe that after 10 years here I'd never known of this place! The view is FANTASTIC and the staff made us feel almost over-welcome. We enjoyed the food, (tasty and attractive) the cocktails were delicious, the prices reasonable and the windows were art-deco perfect. The clientele was a bit mixed--tourists, some surfer types, a few foodies.... Overall, we will definitely be back.

Went there for lunch. Nice atmosphere, pleasant staff, the prix fix menu is an OK deal. The soup was good, the sea bass was good. The chicken sandwich was mediocre. The sweet potato fries were good but the sticky toffee pudding was dry. Food not great but overall a decent choice with good service snd a nice view.

We had a a special evening in this restaurant. We sat by the window with a view of the ocean and a memorable sunset. The food was delicious and the servers friendly and helpful. Then a party of ten arrived toward the end of our meal and the noise level increased to the point that we left rather than linger over our coffee. The real downside of restaurants today.

A coworker and I went here for dineLA ($15 for an app and an entree) and ended up ordering off their business prix fixe ($16 for an app, entree, and dessert). The sauce that came with the chicken empanadas (my app) was AMAZING! Very flavorful! I had the Korean BBQ Beef sandwich with fries. The bread on the sandwich was too dense and too much that it took away from the meat. The fries were exceptionally good. My dessert was mediocre. I had some peach sorbet with orange glaze; it was bitter. They told us the flower in my dessert was edible but didn't tell us that it didn't taste good. The service is pretty slow so if you go, plan to spend more than 1 hour for lunch.

Spent a lovely dinner at The Dining Room with friends from out of town. The food was fresh, the menu interesting, and the service very attentive. The menu said PRIME New York strip steak. I assure you this was one of the most mediocre steaks I've ever eaten and it certainly was not prime. Furthermore this so-called "prime" steak was served in a way that the steak appeared to be a side dish to the bowl of French fries sitting on the plate.

I was greated warmly and my server was very nice. For some reason though, I just did not enjoy the experience. The dining/bar area is relatively small. There weren't many diners at around 8:00 p.m. so conversations from the bar were very easy to hear. The real problem for me though was the flavor profile of the food, which didn't appeal to my palate at all. The tomato soup came in a huge bowl that could have made 3 smaller servings but it was a bit thick and I couldn't finish it and did not want to. The caesar salad had a salty, unpleasnt taste and I just could not eat it. (The server, to his credit, noticed and without my asking removed it from my bill.) The staff was service oriented and pleasant, I just didn't care for the food

The Shangri-La Hotel is a visual delight, a marvelous throw back to 1930s Art Deco. We're in Santa Monica about twice a year and each time we manage to walk by the Shangri-La, check it out and enjoy its good looks. And looking good is an understatement for the Shangri-la! This time we decided to try it for dinner. Good decision! Here it is in brief: the food was fine; the wine perfect; the service exceptional; the people watching excellent! The food menu and wine list are not as extensive as many fine restaurants but we were completely satisfied with the selections.

This turned out to be a real bummer. We get to the restaurant, and it is the bar. The chairs are bar chairs, low semi circle chairs with low backs, uncomfortable to sit in. The food was OK, the fried chicken was a chicken breast patty, with a little spice to it, but no crunch, The mac and cheese was overly spiced. You don't need to put anything other then cheese in or on mac and cheese. I still don't know what was on it. But later in the evening, the party crowd starts showing up and they walk through the restaurant to get to the bar, so there's hot girl-hot guy yipping and yelling going on. This is OK to eat at before going upstairs to the main party, but not a real restaurant.

We were seated promptly at my reserved table, and the busboy immediately asked us for whether we would like water. So far so good. For the next 25 minutes, we sat at the table without a single person acknowledging us, despite the fact that the restaurant was NOT busy. Wait staff passed us by multiple times, and simple pretended that we did not exist. After the 25 minutes had transpired, we got up and left because we were clearly not a priority or concern for them. As a side note, I was once a waiter for an establishment very similar to this restaurant. I understand that waiters sometimes get distracted when there is a flurry of activity. But this was simply not the case, and it was unfortunate to receive such poor service.
