  • Well, what can I say? when

Well, what can I say? when you dine near Union Square, you expect expensive, and if the restaurant has two Michelin stars, you expect outstanding food and service. Michael Mina delivers in a big way on all three counts :) My wife and I both had the tasting menu with the selected wine pairings, and everything was exceptional. We appreciated that they were able to substitute fish-free courses as my wife is allergic to some fish, and space does not allow me to go on at any length about the ahi or veal courses. It's always exciting to see how experts pair wines with food and we thought a couple of pairing were surprising (to us novices, anyway) and all were magnificent.

I have enjoyed this restaurant many times. The staff is excellent. They are very helpful but unobtrusive while dining. The food is truly an experience. Having the opportunity to dine at Mina after seeing Mina received 4 stars from Michael Bauer of the SF Chronicle, also was fun to follow behind to make my own comparison. Mario, Noah and the entire staff are truly great people to take you along on this wine and dining experience. Thank you! Gerald Pitts

Restaurant didn't live up to its hype, in my opinion. The menu is strange and I ended up getting a rather bland chicken breast. The service was almost too attentive. The room is beautiful and the wine list is great, however.

We had an amazing experience. The food and service was excellent. I had mentioned to the hostess that we were celebrating our anniversary and we found a nice note from the manager on our table congratulating us on the occasion. They also personalized our desserts with a happy anniversary in chocolate.Very nice. We'll be back again, although it was a nice experience, it is a restaurant that we'll choose only when we are celebrating a special date.Because of the three or six course options, we felt that we probably overate a little but the flavors were fantastic. The wine list was exceptional too. The date was worth the price.

  • Barring two items, everything
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

Barring two items, everything is great at Michael Mina. The food and presentation are superb. The service is without flaw. But the noise is a distracting factor and, even worse, there is no restroom for the restaurant. My wife was directed to the hotel lobby women's room where (since the facility is open to the public at large) there was a crowd consisting of young girls changing their clothes, women with young children, and individuals who were using the space for their telephone conversations. It was a bit of a jolt.

Overall we enjoyed the restaurant. The food was delicious. Highly recommend the Ahi and Lobster Pot Pie. We found the service to be somewhat intrusive. We must have had 10-12 differnt servers/waiters attending to our table at what seemed to be two minute intervals. It was difficult to simply relax and enjoy the evening.

Service great, food over rated since the focus seems to be on presentation as if looking at the food would make up for the lack of food. Maybe that I missed the point of rating system. We had tickets to A.C.T. and had to rush them to finish. I would return only when time was not an issue.

The food is good, yet be prepared to pay high $$$$ for what you get. Don't sit near the kitchen or you will hear the chef cuss out the cooks in there. Very unpleasant. If they are always yelling at the cooks, is the food that good? I can't give it the highest rating when the ambiance is destroyed by the yelling from the kitchen

We stopped in San Fran after a week long trip to Sonoma- where we also ate at French Laundry and Cyrus - both very good. We were so pleased we added Michael Mina's to our list - everything was nicely presented and prepared and the wine pairing recommendations from our server complimented each course perfectly!

Michael Mina is absolutely one of the most overrated high end restaurants in SF. While the tasting menu is interesting, it is too busy. And it makes for a great story that you had filet prepared three different ways, I would prefer that they provided one preparation fo higher quality. For the money, Gary Danko or Aqua provide a much better experience.
