We all (4 of us) enjoyed our meals immensely. As a group, we had one black cod, one halibut, and two rack of lamb entrees. All excellent and carefully prepared. Butternut squash soup was perfect. The wine list was wonderful, and since we are wine enthusiasts who live very close to Sonoma wine country we were happy to see some favorite small wineries represented on the list. Dessert was also terrific. The service was formal but not too formal, and friendly but not too friendly. Our server was exceptional. The only thing that seemed off was that the elapsed time between courses seemed rather long--perhaps we were just overenthusiastic about the first course and finished it too fast!

Beautiful location for a restaurant & inn. I'm sure tourists would find this a treat but for a local it's high priced, small portions and overrated. Highlights: Halibut entree was the size of a snickers bar and was overcooked. $34

We did a preChristmas getaway in Guerneville at the West Sonoma Inn and saw a deal for dinner for 2 at Applewood. We drove right past the sign, but once we doubled back I saw the sign. We were warmly greeted and seated right away. Almost all of the tables were full of people having lively conversations. The prix fixe menu had several choices. My wife chose the lamb and I had the filet mignon. We had an appetizer to start, I had the tuna tartare and my wife had the salad. Everything was prepared well. The lamb and steak were both medium rare and very tender. The accompanying vegetables were also prepared very nicely as well. The overall experience was very nice and highly recommended. Thank you Applewood staff!

This was our first time at Applewood Inn and the meal we had was simply outstanding. It is very expensive but worth saving up for a most memorable meal. The service was spot on but a bit stiff....I'm being particular but it made the experience just a tad less relaxing.

Every Sunday Applewood has what they call a "Locals Night" where you can order a three course, price fixe menu, for the bargain price of $35.00! And if you bring a bottle of Russian River Valley wine they do not charge a corkage fee! The menu changes every Sunday but last week it was exquisite. Great Salad of Butter Lettuce, Pistachios and Chevre and main course of Rack of Lamb perfectly cooked and choice of two desserts. We had both-Pumpkin Creme' Brulee and some sort of Chocolate Mousse torte with Cocoa Nibs, oh, and did I forget to say that the lamb was coated with cocoa nips in a truly delicious sauce. Such a great dining experience! I love Applewood!

Excellent five-course tasting and wonderful service. The ambiance was great, but the only jarring thing about the restaurant was the music, which was slightly loud for the small number of patrons there. The music rotated between interesting Italian ballads to really awful dissonant jazz. I highly recommend changing the music selection to something more instrumental and smoother so as not to take away from the fantastic dining experience.

We enjoyed a very pleasant Thanksgiving dinner at Applewood. Only two complaints. Our waiter was rather curt and not exactly friendly, but he was efficient. The food was generally very good with the exception that the chapino contained three unopened clams. It was not a large dish and it tasted very good but this seemed rather careless considering the premium price for the meal.

This was the second time to dine at Applewood with my lady, an excellent dining experience.on a week night, there were few other diners. It was very quiet. The ambiance of the restaurant is great with high vaulted ceilings and a raised stone fireplace. Our wait service was impeccable. We both had the buttercup soup and rack of lamb, fixed to perfection. Or meal was finished off with desert and a ten year old tawny port. We definitely will dine here again

Uninspired, but high quality. I would rate higher if it was half the cost. Nervous, almost pretentious service marred the experience somewhat. Very good scallops with uni. The steak was meh. We went there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and weren't disappointed. He had rack of lamb; generous portion, thick-cut, perfectly cooked and very tender. I had filet, the best I ever had in 40 years of fine dining. The sauce was lick-the-plate sublime. The frisee in the roasted beet salad had a slight off-taste, but didn't affect the overall flavor of the dish. Dessert was a dense layered chocolate-mocha mousse. Corkage was free, since we bought our wine at Sophie's Cellars. Seated by the fireplace, we got a bit warm and probably will sit elsewhere next time. And there will be a next time - we are still marveling over our meal. This is a really outstanding restaurant with nice views of the redwoods and first-class, attentive staff.

The chef's tasting menu is outstanding. Unique and delicious dishes. The white gazpacho with tiny cubes of melon was surprisingly addicting. I normally don't like scallops, but I loved the one here. Perfectly crisp on the outside with a creamy center, surrounded by heavenly whipped potatoes. The beef tenderloin melted in my mouth and was perfectly complimented by the pancetta-roasted potatoes. The perfect spot to celebrate our tenth anniversary. I love that much of the food comes from gardens on the property and other local farms.

This was the nice place to eat in Guerneville. We made a reservation here for Friday night at 7:45 (10/04/2013). Eventhough the room was only at half capacity it took over :15 for our server to greet us with a brief stop on his way to another table "Welcome, I'll be right back." Finally, we ordered the tomato tartare & gazpacho for apps and the cod and filet for mains. The Inn batted .500. The tartare was busy and confusing, the filet arrived on a scalding hot plate suggesting it sat under a heat lamp. That was confirmed when I cut into it and it was overdone, wedding food material. The cod and the gazpacho were good and what we expected. Perhaps an off night as our friends went there the very next night and had a great time and meal.

We have been coming to the Applewood Inn for years, and, sad to say, although it is still is a beautiful and romantic spot, the dinner left us flat, if not broke. We waited 20 minutes for the server to even approach us, and never got our doggy bag (I hope someone enjoyed that lamb chop). The beet and chevre appetizer I had was delicious, but was much better the halibut entree I ordered. It was like eating some kind of blond stew, with everything piled in a bowl-like dish with a wide rim. I had a beer (nothing on tap) and my date had a half bottle of wine ($37!). We left after paying our $172 (with tip) bill. Time to find another romantic spot.

Was disappointed with evening as it did not meet expectations after reading web page and reading reviews. Did not experience the friendly and attentive atmosphere which was referred to in description and to the reminders which we received before by email and phone. We were not greeted but felt we had landed in someone's home who did not expect us. Our waiter was pleasant but did not go out of his way to add any pleasantry to our evening. Food portions were good even though a number of reviews had said they were small. Would like to have someone embellish the meal with remarks about the servings as they placed them in front of us. We had to ask and drag out information from our servers. Food was beautifully displayed and good -service fair.

We had reviewed the web site and decided to do the Chef's Pairing Menu with the wine.Course substitutions by the restaurant-soup-salad-the wines. A Sarah that tasted like it was corked was supposed to pair with their rack of lamb (3 bites). Then we get charged an extra $76 on top of the $130 per person, due to a "computer mistake". Waitress was aloof and not engaging. We asked a couple of questions about the wines that they were pouring with the pairing and she couldn't answer.....Really you only pour 5 wines with the prefixed menu and you don't know them? Then we'll talk lack of dress code of any kind......Fine dining with bubbe at the next table in shorts and a t-shirt........What a joke......We won't be back any time soon.
