The spring menu was wonderful - flavorful and inventive. The service was very attentive, yet not a bit overbearing. The dining room is beautiful. A nice, unexpected touch was the gift of a small loaf of tea bread, handed to us as we left.

It's just an amazing experience. If you are local, the menu is perfect. Something different all the time. The tasting menu is an excellent option but they will do what ever you want which is very cool. I would not have changed a thing. The dished were all amazing. It's one of those menus that you just can decide on what to have because it all looks great and interesting.

This is without a doubt one of the finest restaurants I have ever had the pleasure of dining at in the entire world...The ambience cannot be improved upon....It is the quietest most relaxing place for a superb meal that a busy New Yorker could hope to find. There were 4 people in my party and everyone raved about every single dish !! The staff is first rate and accommodated our every request promptly and correctly. I can't say enough positive things about this gorgeous place, You feel as if you are dining in the most elegant, comfortable private dining room.

Lose the accents. Very nice place but some of the people working there, serving the food, are too dificult to understand. They bring the food, say what it is and you have no idea what they are saying. Accents might be fancy but they take away from the overall experience if you can not understand what they are saying. Thank you and good luck.

  • The service could be taken
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006VIP
    Dined on 5/2/2008
The service could be taken to the next level. The waiter was sensitive to our food restrictions (one vegetarian and one nut allergy), but did not share this information with the busboys. As a result, they brought a non-vegetarian amuse-bouche to the vegetarian, and a plate of nut desserts to the nut allergy person. In both cases, they did not identify what the food was - we had to ask and point out our restrictions. They replaced the vegetarian's amuse-bouche with a square of beet (when the appetizer she had ordered was also beets). On the dessert plate, the busboy's reaction was simply to move all the desserts to the other side of the table - he did not identify whether any of them were nut-free. Superb restaurants make it easier for you.

We went for the Tribeca Film Festival Price Fixe Menu announced in a Zagat's email. Loved every course. I had eaten in this restaurant several year's ago for a business lunch and it was fabulous then and still is. The Zagat announcement is what got me back as I very infrequently venture this far downtown for dinner.

A bit of disappointment known the restaurent's better days. I have not visited Danube (I visit Bouley regularly) for 2 years and found the food average for the price, wine average and the restaurent (early hours at least) totally vacant and with smell of toilet freshner.

I forgot my wallet. Manager was most gracious. I had used Open Pages and they had my phone number in the reservation system. They were willing to accept I would call later with card number. As it turned out I knew my Amex number and this was adequate. But instead of being embarrassed, they were very kind and did not allow my forgetfulness to ruin the evening. Very thoughtful and clearly know their clientele. I will go back again, and I will strongly recommend them to my family and friends.

Wow - what a GREAT experience we had at Danube. First of all, the ambience was amazing. Dimly lit, but not so dark you couldn't read the menu. The decor was beautiful and as tranquil as the Danube itself. There were so many great dishes on the menu, I couldn't decide what to order. So, I left my decision making to the maitre'd who picked the Austrian ravioli appetizer and Long Island duck entree. Additionally, the beet appetizer and tuna tartare were sent to our table and we all sampled these amazing treats. The duck was perfect with a slightly smokey taste and the Austrian wines we had were amazing. We tried a Le Frankish (spelling?) and it was delicious. The whole evening was PERFECT. They also have a private room!

After dining at Bouley, the sister restaurant to Danube a block or so away, Danube was somewhat of a let down. Service was a little pushy early during our dinner even though it wasn't that busy on a Friday night. The vienerschnitzel was good but not anything special. The 'rack' of lamb, while delicious, was two ribs. You might call that thick lamb chops but you simply cannot call that a 'rack' of lamb. Three ribs minimum, please; four is common. Desert was wonderful but I found the atmosphere too dark, even for eastern european.

Honestly, the food was just ok. They skimped on the healthy stuff, like the veggies. It's definitely not healthy eating and I didn't find it memorable. I had tried the Bouley and I felt the same way about that restaurant. We went during the holidays both times to celebrate and paid the big bucks. The service was great, I must say.
