We voted this restaurant as the best we dined at on our trip. Because they could not seat us at the time of our reservation, they bought us each a glass of the wine of our choice -- which was especially nice as we were seated only 10 minutes late! From there, things only got better. Terrific experience!

This was a perfect place for myself and my two customers to have a wonderful dinner and still be able to converse. The menu was original and very well presented. The wine list was thoughtful and we found our sever, though new, quite attentive and helpful. Beautiful art on the walls. Ski town chic.

We have been coming to this restaurant for a number of years, and have always had good food and good service. This time the service was terrible, which started by ignoring us for at least 10 minutes after we were seated. The service continued to be horrible. We will come back for the food, and hope that the service improves.

Overall this place was a bit of a letdown as the food was just average and when we arrived we were informed that many menu items were no longer available. The food itself ranged from my soup, which was quite good, to my protein (elk) which was nothing special / okay, to the asparagus which was served with my elk, which looked and tasted either steamed sans seasoning or canned. Asparagus is so easy to make delicious and it was simply a complete miss here. The service was average at best, leading to my 2-star "fair" rating.

221's menu is not huge but we had difficulty selecting our entrees given the impressive list of choices. The trout is always excellent and this visit did not disappoint. The tandoori monkfish was new to us and excellent as well. The wine list is not run of the mill. We found an excellent wine which was new to us. All in all a very positive experience and confirmation that we will visit 221 again soon.

Great food! Great atmosphere! Need to work on first impression. Walked in and 3 employees including bartender didn't acknowledge our presence. Didn't feel too welcomed. Luckily the hostess made up for the rest of the staff. Waiter was pleasant but a smile and a bit more personality would have been nice.

We've been to a lot of great restaurants and are pretty critical. Most restaurants manage to screw something up. That said, my dining experience at 221 Oak was just spectacular. The dining room is situated in a small house and is tastefully decorated. The service was attentive and professional. The duck breast I ordered was perfectly prepared, and the entire dish was well thought out. This chef knows what she is doing. I also was impressed with the pastry chef - the bread was great and the same for the deserts. Overall this was one of the most enjoyable dining experiences we have had in the last few years. We will be back the next time we are in Telluride.

We were recently ate at 221 because it was highly recommended and got great reviews -- what I can say is that it was completely over hyped. Our food was good, but nothing great. Service was horrible. We got more attention from the kitchen runners than from our waitress, who we only saw twice (and she was borderline rude both times). The restaurant may have been understaffed, but I don't see any excuse for the frenetic nature of the restaurant the entire time we were there. Our waitress and the hostess (who was also the manager and seemed to be a backup waitress) actually seemed more focused on setting tables (yes, changing table cloths, etc). I might have accepted this at a sports bar type of place, but not someplace like this.
