A word from Bonaparte
Three delightfully decorated halls in the Empire style that dominated the Napoleonic era give the restaurant the intimate character that guests treasure. An exquisite cuisine, prepared with French savoir-faire and showcasing the finest fresh regional products.

It was a gastronomical delight having dinner at Bonaparte's. The service was friendly and timely. We had selected the 'table d/hote' and couldn't have been more pleased. The food was not only delicious, but also a delight to the eye. My husband says he is now spoiled as he doubts he will ever have such a delicious steak. We will, most assuredly be recommending this restaurant to family and friends. Merci

This was my very first meal in Montreal...and what a special meal it was! Even the great reviews I had read of Bonaparte did not fully do it justice...it proved to be one of the all-time great meals in my considerable dining experience. I opted for the 6-course tasting menu, and each course was outstanding...and enhanced throughout by the best in service and ambience. I cannot recommend Bonaparte highly enough!

We have visited the Bonaparte twice. Last visit was one year ago. Food is terrific. Dining room is elegant. The service was not as smooth and attentive as one would expect of a restaurant of this quality. The maitre d did not lead us to the table - instead he took a few steps into the dining area and pointed vaguely to one of a couple of empty tables and told us that was where we were to be seated. When we approached the wrong table table he corrected our error by loudly informing us of this problem from about 30 feet over other seated diners. Table service started well but diminished rapidly as our servers seemed to disappear. Our meals were excellent however. Best onion soup we have eaten. However not up to last year's dining experience.

Bonaparte is one of our favorite restaurants in Montreal. The food is consistently delicious and the service is impeccable. If you are a gourmand this is the place for you! Presentation is lovely. The tasting menu gives you a chance to try several dishes at one sitting. My favorite items on the tasting menu are the fois gras and the very delicate mushroom ravioli. Though a bit pricey, it is worth every penny.

Every bit of the food, down to the perfectly steamed vegetables accompanying our meats, was carefully cooked and artfully arranged. This place is very expensive, but if you get the table d'hote, it is well worth the price. The bill is not for the faint of heart, but you will have eaten such a superb meal by that point, you will not regret it in the slightest!

Note that several sites describe the expected wear as Casual. You can get a seat in jeans, but you'll certainly stand out. Business casual is more along expected lines. Good food, reasonable price for a table d'hote, nice atmosphere, exceptional service. Don't expect to order wine, as the cheapest glass is ~$20. Make sure to reserve - suggest two days in advance if you have a specific time in mind.

What a wonderful dining experience at Bonaparte! The atmosphere was elegant, sophisticated, and professional, yet comfortable. Each of us in our party of three ordered the tasting menu, or "menu degustation," which consisted of five courses plus coffee or tea. We enjoyed lobster bisque, goat cheese tarts, scallops with shrimp, perfectly-cooked filet mignon, and a wonderful dessert selection. Portions were surprisingly substantial, and the presentation was magnificent. Wait staff was efficient and friendly. All of us felt that the price of 67$ Canadian was quite a reasonable price for what we got. It was a most enjoyable evening.

We went here after arriving at 6PM after an 11 hour drive! The food was wonderful - a venison pate to die for, with wonderful housemade accompaniments. The wild boar was also very good, again with wonderful vegetables. And you can actually get a souffle - the Calvados was superb. Obviously they expect you to stay the evening, and everyone did. There were couples, small, and even large groups, but the noise level was pleasant, and the experience relaxing. We also had breakfast the next morning, and it was also great.

We were really looking forward to our anniversary dinner at Bonaparte (and were guests at the hotel for the weekend). So our disappointment was enormous when the service was poor. The wait staff (3 servers alternated serving our table) were absent for long periods, abrupt in their manner and language, and cold to us. We seemed to be an after thought. Our water glasses sat empty, we refilled our own wine glasses on occasion, and waited 15 minutes to order dessert then 15 minutes after we were finished with dessert/coffee to be given our check. The food was good although not spectacular. The lime tart was delicious and that along with the pork loin was the highlight of the meal. The vennison terrine, green salad, and veal were just ok.

Bonaparte has consistently provided excellent food, service, and ambience. It was as good this evening as it was several years ago when we last visited Montreal. The friends we brought with us were as impressed with all aspects as well. They raved over the mushroom ravioli appetizer and were surprised at the portion of foie gras which was excellent. You are sure to have a memorable meal at Bonaparte.

I had dined at Bonaparte many times before. The reason why I keep going back is because the food is always very good and the service is professional. Most times I order from the daily prix fixed menu because there are many choices and the price is very reasonable. Their tasting menu for $62 Canadian is a good buy also.

The food was fabulous and the service was very good until we wanted coffee or tea. Our experienced waiter asked my husband if we wanted to pay for it! After my husband asked for a menu, it of course showed that they were included in our fixed price dinners just as he remembered. Apparently the waiter either wanted us out quickly to be able to seat another couple or was punishing us for taking too long over our dinner and that prevented another seating, as it was 9:15. We live in San Francisco and have traveled abroad every year for the last 15 (so are experienced diners at fine restaurants). We have never experienced a situation handled so poorly.

The tasting menu was very nice. The quail was delicious and was the smoked salmon. The duck breast was somewhat dissapointing. It was rather tough and lacked flavor. The waiter was very nice and seemd to be fluent in 3 languages. The one complaint my girlfriend had was it took quite a long time to get our bill after our meal was complete. In fairness this was partly due to a table that was arguing their bill.

Meal preparation and taste and presentation was excellent. Service was very slow and we felt as if we did not belong. Though waiters were polite, they were aloof. We also noted that many patrons that came to the restaurant before we did were served before we were - perhaps because they spoke french and we were english - speaking. In comparison, we had supper on the patio at St Sulpice Hotel which was unforgettable. I'd rate it at least 5 stars and even over the top at 6 stars. This place is way overrated. The service seemed to be more attentive to the customers who appeared more seasoned. As a younger couple who was spluging for fine cuisine, we felt underappreciated. The tasting menu was totally hit-or-miss. I was not overly impressed with any dish, although it certainly was nicely prepared. I would not go back to Bonaparte the next time I visit Montreal.
