went with group of 10 - everyone impressed with dishes, daily curry was very good as well as the crab fried rice and a pork dish we ordered which waitstaff recommended. Desserts were pretty good but there were leftovers, not a great sign with our group. Service was a bit off, dishes didn't come all together and we felt unattended at times, but overall good. Everyone would go back again.

The restaurant has a nice decor and atmosphere. The food was good, with a few items you don't usually see at the average Thai restaurant. There are virtually no vegetarian items on the menu, and veggie members of our party were unsatisfied with the choices.

Basil Canteen has a great menu at very reasonable prices, and all of the food we tried was excellent. The restaurant seemed a bit empty, however we were there on a Tuesday evening, so not entirely unexpected. I do hope more people give this place a try so we keep them in the neighborhood - while there's no shortage of Thai restaurants in this area, this one offers a rare combination of a very elegant, loungy ambiance along with reasonable prices.

Basil Canteen has it all--- good food, good drinks, and good ambiance. However, people are still just catching on to this place. Now is a good time to go before they get mobbed. It's also right by Slim's and a slew of other nightclubs, so a great place to grab an inexpensive (entrees around $10) and tasty dinner before a show.

Great appetizers, ok entrees so maybe we ordered poorly. Overall we liked the place and will try it again. Definitely one of the better options in the general area...so far on par with koh samui and grand puh bah in terms of higher quality Thai food. It was Sunday night so quiet in terms of noise (restaurant was 1/3 full )

They still need to work out the kinks with service - it took 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge us or take our drink order. Food was just average tasting. There weren't as many vegetarian and/or fish options as most Thai restaurants.

Good selection and variety of small plates for appetizers. We found the lamb rib small plate very tasty. Small plates are probably a good approach to take unless craving one of their entree plates. Clean main dining area and metallic chairs give it a techno-like interior. It was relatively quiet due primarily to a small crowd (for a Saturday night). The one long wood table (family style) can seat 20 guests but is also supplemented by a number of small tables spread around including their loft area.

We went on a Monday night and it was relatively quiet so perhaps this is why the service seemed so great. But the food was presented quite well and was quite tasty, although I would not recommend cuttlefish. I do not believe the item was not cooked well, but just that it is very tough in general and was not something a novice fish-eater should pursue. All-in-all, my date and I had two appetizers, two entrees, a desert and six of the specialty drinks and the bill came out to about $100. Definitely reasonable.
