we were a little worried when we looked at the menu. one side is vegetarian, the other side regular. you can choose a 3 course meal for $55 or order separate. entrees $33, salad or appetizer $18. the salad choice was very slim-only 1 choice- mixed greens, pears, bacon, yellow tomato. good, but would have like some substantial lettuce. bread was nice- wheat and white peasant bread. Entrees were wonderful! we got Salmon-cooked medium, over rice/clam broth, lemon flavor. very nice! Scallops, asparagus. very good!! pleasantly surprised. went on a sunday night- only 2 other tables were filled- hotel group was having a banquet in another room so it was quiet. will try it again.

I greatly enjoyed the food and experience at Atwater. At first, I was concerned about the limited fixed menu, but it far exceeded my expectations and each course was better than the last. The service was also outstanding. Definitely one of the best spots in Vail...and a better value (read: lower cost for same quality) than the top Zagat rated options.

  • The restaurant is divided
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010
    Dined on 8/2/2010
The restaurant is divided into two sections, fine dining and tavern, with separate menus. The fine dining was only prix fixe, which was not what was advertised. One member of our party didn't want that much and wanted to order from the other menu. We were informed that we could only order from that menu in the dining room. We moved into the tavern area. The food was very good and the service good but the attitude was so arrogant. The fine dining area was not full (there was one table of two), the kitchen was not busy; there was no reason to not be able to order from two menus. Consequently they lost a significant amount of money since we did not order drinks or dessert and the prices were much less expensive.

We visited on our last night in Vail to celebrate the High School graduations of our grand-daughter and her friend. It was the perfect venue. The girls were greeted with the knowledge of their graduation experience. Service and Food was exemplary with all dishes beautifully presented. It was a quiet evening for the restaurant but perfect for us seated at a creekside window with no occupied table near us. We chose the fine dining option but assume that the tavern menu was just as good. Will definitely return on our next trip to Vail.

Restaurant was good maybe slightly above average but nothing special. The hotel has never attracted a truly great restaurant, always extremely inconsistent. The staff fairly unknowledgable about menu but tried awfully hard, Pork Shank was tender and good sized, but the Smoked buffalo carpaccio / tartare was very good. Extremely limited wine list in both varieties and choices.

The service was great, and the staff was very accommodating to our hectic schedule. As soon as we were seated the waiter was helpful and attentive. He offered us his wine advice as well as giving us the chefs suggestions. We both had the warm spinach salad with pork belly pieces and a poached egg. I felt the salad did not have enough seasoning, but I surprisingly enjoyed the poached egg. For the entree I ordered the seared boat scallops with butternut squash puree, gnocchi and a pinot reduction. The scallops were very well cooked and the puree was to die for. My friend ordered the Colorado rack of lamb, with the cannellini cassoulet. The rack of lamb was cooked wonderfully, but the rest of the dish could not live up to the lamb.

We found this restaurant to be more upscale but the atmosphere is relaxed and unrushed. Menu selection was excellent with some unusual items that are well prepared and presented. The braised short ribs were to die for and the foie gras paired with the sweet wine was heavenly. Our server was outstanding, able to get you what you want without being intrusive, something you hope for in all fine dining establishments but don't usually get.
