We took our 5 young men to this restaurant and had a great dinner. There was a great selection of food choices and there were many beers to choose from. They enjoyed the beer flights to get a taste of the local brews. We enjoyed a good bottle of wine. We tried A few if the appetizers: the lamb meatballs, the chicken wings, the tuna tacos, and sweet potato fries. We ordered a second round of lamb meatballs and a skillet of focacia. All were excellent. Dinner choices included bison burgers (excellent), trout, short rib grilled cheese. All the dinners were great. The waiter was very knowledgeable about the wines, beers and food. Would definitely return when in the area. A great local treasure!

I spent a night in Vail with my girlfriend for her birthday at the hotel that houses this restaurant. Our server Ivan was incredible. Not only did he comp her entire meal ($50 lamb chop plate), he brought us free champagne, and a piece of chocolate cake on the house. I couldn't believe it. The food and wine were also excellent but the real star here was our server Ivan.

This location is a bit west of the main part of Vail, but still on the right side of the freeway. The restaurant is inside of a resort (Vail Cascade) but it feels like a free-standing restaurant. It is actually beneficial because just outside of the restaurant is a great cocktail spot in front of a huge fireplace where you could have a drink before sitting down. The pork shank was fall-off-the-bone tender and made unique with a dollop of fall-friendly cheese, peppers and herbs. The fish dishes were also outstanding, done to order and to perfection. Don't miss the foccacia appetizer with homemade pear preserves. An exceptional value was the $33 for 3 prix fixe menu -- one appetizer, one main course, and either a salad or dessert.

  • Disappointing Anniversary Dinner

    Dined on 10/19/2013
Service was extremely slow although the restaurant was half full (at most) and the servers were all running around as if they were slammed. We waited 10 minutes to be greeted by our server and another 15 to get our bar drinks. Our server didn't recognize that it was our anniversary (even though I made the reservations with that information) and we were seated by the kitchen which was loud and distracting. The food was mediocre (blackened chicken wings were good, but the short rib grilled cheese sounded much better than it was and the carnivore pizza was so-so). Both the dinner and dessert menus were lacking. Although all workers seemed nice, overall it was a very disappointing ending to our 5th anniversary.

My experience at Atwater on Gore Creek was decent. However for the location and prices I was expecting more variety. I ordered an ahi tuna sandwich and it was undercooked. When I brought this to our server's attention, she replied with: "well, it's not for everyone," as opposed to offering something else off the menu, or for it to be fixed. For me that pretty much ruined it. My kids and company enjoyed their meals, I just wasn't pleased with mine what-so-ever.

Fantastic experience at Atwater, tucked beside Vail Mountain with its flowing creek beside the restaurant. Indoor and outdoor seating, richly decorated with dark wood floors, modern fireplaces, very comfortable surroundings. We went for early dinner with the kids, and their servings were more than enough to share. Chips and queso appetizer had an interesting array of dipping sauces, homemade bread/crackers were delicious, ample wine and beer listings, adult dinner portions were big enough to feel full but not overboard. Excellent variety on menu to make everyone happy.

Outstanding food and service with a wide variety of standard “American” selections at dinner, including standard entrees (steaks, seafood, special items), burgers/sandwiches, pizzas and “small plates”. Most entrees are priced in the low $20’s. The wine list is very broad with many outstanding selections in the $40 to $60 per bottle range, with a large number of higher end selections. They also have by-the-glass selections around $8 to $15. They also have a special selection of craft beers, on tap or in the bottle. The service is friendly, competent, prompt, without being overbearing, and “kid friendly”. There’s a great view from the dining room which makes the experience all that more pleasurable.

Let me start off with our only issue, We were seated by a very friendly and helpful hostess and sat outside on the patio and told Jose would be our server. Not only did Jose not serve us but totally ignored us. People came in 15 minutes after us and were sat, given drinks and appetizers. I went up to the host, she was away but the manager a very polite woman had came right to our table after we explained our situation. She took it upon herself to be our waitress. And after that it was a very pleasant experience Food was amazing starting with the charred corn chowder. Best soup i have ever had, great wine, great burger and we were given a free desert. The chef came out a few times to chat with us which i loved. Will come back again and again

This restaurant is very quiet. Our reservations were for 7 which should be a peak time, however the restaurant was almost empty. It is out of the way, however, a shuttle runs every 15 minutes for so from the Vail and Lionshead transportation centers so it actually easy to get to. We started with the chicken chili which was spicy and delicious and the arugula salad with strawberries. Both were very good. My husband had the scallops and I had the papperadelle pasta. My husband's portion seemed rather small compared to my large portion. White chocolate cheesecake and a trio of gelato rounded out the meal and were both excellent. The mark ups on the wine list seemed excessive. The food is expensive, but comparable to others in the area.

We are in this area just once a year, and for the past 3 years have gone to this restaurant. It has changed in format each year. It is an attractive restaurant, with areas divided by a fireplace and other architectural features. Service was good. All of the entrees were just a little overcooked: salmon special, buffalo steak. This was our first time dining here, and we had an absolutely beautiful lunch overlooking the mountain and summer foliage. Love the decor and ambiance, fireplace and glass sculptures, windows overlooking the scenery, tables outside as well. While the food was good, it was not of a quality commensurate to the price. We enjoyed being seated on the patio where we could enjoy the scenery and have private conversation. The service both times for dinner was slow, probably due to just one server on both occasions for the many diners present. So, even with the server's assistance, there were too many lags in service. Example: After waiting for nearly 15 minutes after finishing the main course, our server finally returned and we asked for a dessert menu and she said she would bring it right away. Ten minutes later she brought our bill, so we decided to pass on dessert.

Food was good, but not excellent. Service very good. Overall a nice, albeit expensive experience. For the prices, the food should WOW you, but this restaurant does not. Asked to be seated in a particular room in request and was told when we arrived there was there was a large party in it. Then we were put in a room with TWO TV's (romantic???) with boring shows. Called to change reservation to an hour earlier and was told it was not possible. Arrived a little early and the Restaurant was almost empty? Would not go again when there are so many better restaurants in this area for the same price or less. Also, worst coffee I have ever tasted!!

Really enjoyed the entire experience at Atwater's. Looks like a combo hip bar and fine dining establishment. The venison was outstanding. Cooked perfectly with a lovely reduction sauce. Reasonably priced choices available for wine (compared to other restaurants!). Wait staff was attentive without being overbearing. It's expensive as is most of the fine dining to be found in Vail but our table of 3 thought it was worth it. Also note that it's in Cascade Village which isn't walking distance but there is a free shuttle that picked us up at the hotel.

We were in Vail for the busy Presidents Day weekend and made a rather late reservation for Atwater which still had availabilities at 7.30. Perhaps because it is in Cascade Village it is less known and less convenient. But it was just a very short trip from our place in Lionshead. Beautiful room, Sophisticated service. Inventive food (recommend the short rib). Decent list of wines by the glass (loved the Beringer Cab). And an excellent series of vegetarian options which was ideal for two members of our party. The prices are pretty much the same all through Vail but the value here was so much better, especially with the three course tasting menu for $55. They even carry Mighty Leaf tea for we tea lovers. Better than Sweet Basil!

The food was served by kitchen staff and was described in detail so I could be even be more than visually impressed. The food portions were large but I "cleaned my plate". I even had a hard time letting go of my lamb bones they were seasoned perfectly. Next time I hope to have dessert but the chief's small complementry tasting was a nice touch.

Unfortunately the meal did not come together at all. We were there on Valentine’s day and the restaurant was out of control and not even that busy. The flavors within the appetizers were mismatched. The second course came to the table while I was still eating my first so I sent it back. Once my plate was removed for the first course, the second was there within a minute…so I asked the waiter to slow down the service as we were here for a 4 course 2 hour event, not a sprint…. The meats, both my buffalo and my wife’s salmon were over cooked and dry. The deserts were just ho-hum. Overall rather disappointing.
