Food was pretty good. But the dessert table was sitting under the sun and not sitting on ice or anything to keep them cool. My friend did not want to take the chance and eat cheesecake. Some of the desserts were soft from sitting under the sun. Service was poor. We had to keep asking for drink refills such was water, coffee & juice. That's when we could find the waiter. He seemed like we were bothering him and he was doing us a favor. Oh please!

Everything was great! The food was delicious and the restaurant / hotel is lovely and full of history. We took our son there before a Commonwealth event (right around the corner) as a special day before we take him off to college. Very fitting "special experience."

Garden Court is absolutely beautiful and my favorite restaurant for business lunches especially when the business associate is a woman. On this occasion, I took my 14 year old grandaughter before going to the theatre. She loved it and dressed up for the occasion.

  • The Palace's Garden Court
    EB123
    Dined on 6/15/2008
The Palace's Garden Court Sunday buffet brunch has been my favorite dining choice for years. This year, my birthday and Father's Day coincided and nothing was going to keep me from celebrating there. I wish I hadn't. Nothing except the location made the occasion at all worthwhile. The specialties which had previously served to set this buffet brunch apart from mediocre ones were all absent. In the seafood section alone, there was no longer any caviar (where before there were three or four choices), no crab (except a bit in a salad), the raw oysters were more of the large variety almost better barbecued and were no longer shucked on the spot for freshness, and even the smoked salmon was a bit tough. Really, little was up to par. :-(

The lunch menu is limited and the food is fair. A bit pricey considering. Where the food is lacking, the ambiance makes this a one-of-a-kind experience. Recommend a Sunday brunch or afternoon tea. This could be a world-class destination, but the lunch menu is only average. Nevertheless, it is a fine experience and I would recommend to a friend.

Our server appeared to have too many tables and was unable to provide acceptable service. No one ever came back after food was delivered to see if everything was OK or if we needed anything. We had to practically stand on the table for attention to get after lunch coffee and desert menu. This was a special post Mother's Day outing marred by poor service. I was personally embarrassed for having chosen the restaurant but really wanted my mom & mother-in-law to see the famous Garden Court. Well they've seen it but I'll never bring them back.

Went there for high tea and after having had high tea at many great locations across Europe, I have to say this is such a disappointment. 1) only good point: beautiful location, nice piano player 2) At 42 Dollars for high tea, I don't expect the waiter to say "hey folks, here's your food" such an ambiance spoiler - If I want this, I go to McDonalds 3) The sandwiches were old and sweaty. They had been prepared hours ago and not been refrigerated properly.... no, no, no 4) Before we actually ordered, the waiter already put all the sandwiches on the table... we are vegetarians, so he put all this meat on our table.. also a NO-GO 5) It was hard to get the waiters attention - although so many were present running out of space, could ad

I have been going to the Palace Hotel's Garden Court since I was a little girl. It has become a family tradition with my daughter for high tea and special occassions. This most recent luncheon was with my seventeen year old daughter who treated me to a lovely birthday lunch. The elegance of the room can't be beat and the seperation of tables allows for easy conversation where you don't feel that the people at next table can hear what you are discussing.

The greeting was cold and somewhat stiff, which diminishes the gorgeous atmosphere of the place. The waiter was irritating at best, pushed alcohol more than the food and could not answer any of our menu questions. The food was good, but for the price, not that great. There were shells in the crab, and the sauces were boring. Dessert was strange, they try too hard to be creative... if you like a sugar-fest, you might actually enjoy them, but we were disappointed.

    Dined on 3/24/2008
The Garden Court restaurant is set in the inner court yard of a wonderful turn of the century hotel in downtown San Francisco. I stumbled on this treasure years ago during a self guided walking tour. I wasn't dressed properly to even step inside. This trip I made a point of finding the hotel again so that my wife and I could experience it. The glass ceiling is three stories above your head and something to behold. Truly a beautiful space to have a meal with a special person. The Monday lunch time crowd was extremely light. This is really a restaurant for well dressed (business casual at least) adults. Children need to be well behaved and well dressed or you may get stares from the clientel.
