  • Always a great experience.

Always a great experience. Very crowded due to Mothers Day but to be expected. The ambiance, service and, of course, the food is outstanding. Grilled sardines and tagliatelle Bolognese were our entres and the both were wonderful...the sardines could be smaller and then less boney but very flavorful. A little extra touch at Poggio is the complimentary sparkling water served in a large carafe...unusual amenity.

  • We weren't expecting the food
    OpenTable Diner Since 2005

We weren't expecting the food to compliment the menu but we enjoyed it from beginning to end. We were very pleased to find a good variety of half bottle wines. Will be sure to make this restaurants a place to take our out-of-towners guests to. There are only a few "good" Italian in the Bay Area and most of our guests come from the four boroughs in New York City. Now we won't be so difficult to say "yes we have eaten at Poggio's and the food is excellent".

  • I wish that I had visited
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 5/10/2008
I wish that I had visited Poggio a few years earlier. I brought some friends of mine, from Monaco, for lunch and they loved the European-style cafe chairs and al-fresco dining. We all love Sausalito and it was fun to enjoy a leisurely meal in the Spring weather (with the overhead heaters for back-up) and to watch the tourists and locals stroll by, while retaining our privacy. The food and staff were both outstanding and unique. We will definitely be back! ~ Gale Marks (private chef)

The waitstaff is particularly good. The meatballs were exceptional and perfect for the three of us to share. Super pastas as well. The rolls were a bit pedestrian and dry, but I didn't go there for the bread. Tony the bartender is a kick, but you already know that.

The food is always fantastic at Poggio. We had an exceptional waiter on 5/9 and thanks to him, we feel we made some very good choices on wine and food - the meatball appetizer was fabulous! Always great food at Poggio

  • I was very disappointed with
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 5/8/2008
I was very disappointed with the food. The butter lettuce salad looked and tasted as though it had been dressed in the morning and left out all day. The leaves were soggy and transparent. The linguine con vongole was mediocre at best. Granted, pasta dishes cool quickly; however, it would have been nice to have a bit warmer than room temperature. Flavor was very bland as well. My date enjoyed his strawberry/arugula salad. He ordered the whole sea bass as an entree, but even though he was warned of bones after the nice(although unfriendly)tableside de-boning, he struggled throughout the dish and kept complaining of the bones he kept encountering.

The restaurant is pretty and the service is professional yet informal. The meals, however are uneven in quality. The linguine was no better than frozen food. The salad and desert however was great. I would probably not go back again.

The brick chicken was excellent! As were the skirt steak and meatloaf and mashed potatoes. We would definitely go there again. Because we were there for lunch on a Friday, there was no crowd to contend with inside, so the atmosphere was pretty laid back. This was a great place to go for our birthday celebration.

  • I've been to Poggio twice

    Dined on 4/27/2008
I've been to Poggio twice and had two different experiences. The first was with a friend for Saturday lunch. The restaurant was quiet and the food memorable. The second was with my husband for a Sunday evening dinner. We sat for almost 15 minutes before anyone took our drink order. It was also difficult to get someone to take our food order. It was not the attentive service I had expected. The restaurant was busy and we felt as if we had been shoved in a corner. The food was excellent. It is a good place for groups -which is what we were probably competing against that night. Otherwise my experience there was good. By the way, it's hard to figure out their "waiter" system -a different person every few minutes. Bewildering.

We were celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary. A beautiful handwritten card was at our table. The food was excellent. Staff very accommodating. And the best Chardonnay ever for me "Martin Alfaro "Sleepy Hollow Vineyard" Santa Lucia Highlands, 2006. Stunning! And the late lunch was topped off with a Lemon Mousse compliments of the house which we didn't realize until we looked at our bill later. It was highly recommended from friends & it did not disappoint us. The view of San Francisco was fabulous. We are from Arizona. Altho my husband is from the Bay Area, we were both blown away by the beauty of the Bay and the City. A perfect way to end a 40th celebration which started in Patagonia, Argentina, a month ago.Caryle & Gary

Dependable, for a really good dining experience. Somewhere between very good and good due to consistancy. Consistent food and service mean alot..you can always count on having a good experience, weekends or weekdays. Very important to locals with lots of dining choices. One of the best dining experiences in Marin (unlike sister location Il Fornio in Corte Madera which is hands down is consistantly the worst dining experince I'm forced to endure by uneducated friends). Poggio always delivers on timely execution of reservation/seating, service and quality of food. Location is magical.

The food is mediocre at best, but the reason I will never go back to this restaurant is its terrible service. Unfortunately, every minute we were in the restaurant was punctuated by sub-par service and attempts to remedy the experience fell short. Due to a mistake in the number of guests, we were told we had to wait, and during our 40 minute wait, tables of three were given to parties of two and we ended up eating at a table in the busy bar area that was two round two-tops pushed together, which was not comfortable. To top it off, cheese came on every dish ordered by a lactose-intolerant guest who specifically asked for the cheese to be omitted. There is more, but that is all that I can describe in the allotted character limit.
