Not easy to find. Beautiful decor and views. We were not happy with our seating and requested a window seat and they responded promptly. For appetizers we had tomato gazpacho (fair) and rabbit raviolis (excellent). Main courses were glazed duck breast breast (outstanding) and veal picatta (overcooked and tough). Dessert, orange truffles (to die for). I'm afraid the negatives outweighed the positives. we probably willnot return

I had a excellent time while dining with Rancho Valencia. I was however very surprised that two of my favorite items on their menue were not available. The first and foremost is it appears they have stopped serving the Bone in Filet Mignon. This was hands down their best dish in my opinion and I have eaten there in excess of 100 times and have also stayed at the resort. The second item was it was the first time they did not have my wine in stock, this is very rare. This is the Opus 2001. However, the waiter did reccomend a great bottle of wine which was very good. The staff were great as always, very helpfull, and make it truly a treasure of a place to have a great dinner.

This is an expensive restaurant that is perfect for a special occasion. The staff was very attentive but didn't interfere with our conversation. The food was fabulous. The front area was rather noisy so they moved us to the back where we could hear each other. I would definitely return.

We had a very nice meal at Rancho Valencia. We did two courses, shared dessert, plus a bottle of wine. Excellent wine assistance. My wife very much enjoyed her selections. Both of my selections were overpowered with garlic. We were on a date, so I didn't fuss about it. Besides, the ambiance was great, and we had a fantastic bottle of wine. After dessert, we left having gotten what we came for: a nice romantic dinner.

While the food was fairly good, the new chef has completed changed the familiar menu, making it heavy on cheese. Being allergic to cheese, I was not happy having to request no cheese on each item. The one item lacking cheese had a blue cheese dressing! In addition, I found the change to cold, not even room temperature rolls and bread to be unpleasant. True, they will warm the bread, but, again it means a special request. The service out of the kitchen was very slow indeed and because any special request will slow it down, one should stick to exactly as listed on the menu! My party opened the lunch service and there were only a handful of tables while I was there, but our orders of only salads and soup took a long time to arrive.

A disappointing lunch. Long wait to get our menus and then our food. When it did arrive our hamburger was cooked right through despite having been ordered medium rare. The Club Sandwich was made with very cold slimy processed turkey, not quite what we expected at RV. Wines expensive compared to other top end local restaurants. There does not seem to be much management around or quality control of the food.

The ambiance was very nice and the staff was friendly. It was very relaxing and we were never rushed. The food was presented well and the flavors were great. However, the service was a bit aloof. After being presented with the menu, we were notified that they were out of one of these dishes (at 6:00 PM mind you). After ordering, we were again notified that what my wife ordered was no longer available either. So, we had to reorder. I ordered a steak and it was well overcooked (medium well vice medium rare). The complimentary desert for my wife's birthday was a nice way to end the night. Overall, it was a pleasant experience, just not what I expected from a high-end place like this.

The only complaint that I have is that Open Table only gave me an option for 7:30 reservations, but when I called the restaurant, I was able to get a 6:00 resevation, and the restaurant was pretty empty. So I don't understand why on Open Table I could only get a 7:30 reservation.

We went to Rancho Valencia Resort to celebrate a birthday. There was a wedding party seated outside, so we sat inside, which was just as welcoming. Gorgeous setting in the Fairbanks Ranch area of North San Diego County. Peaceful, serene, fresh bouquets of flowers on the tables, fireplace in the dining room. Service was good, but not super-attentive. Food was creatively presented and very good. I can't wait to go back. It reminded me of the Bel Air Hotel...elegant and peaceful. Whether you're seated indoors or out, you can't go wrong. Price for lunch, no wine, was around $35. pp. out the door.

My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary (of course with our 5 year old son) and chose to eat at the Rancho Valencia restaurant. They were tentative to our needs, and especially my sons,ie; they wanted to know if we wanted our sons food out first so that he may eat and be full so that we could enjoy our fine meals..If ever one needs to treat themselves out, try this restaurant on for size! Nice experience overall but service was slow and not very refined (empty cocktail glasses sat at the table, when asked about dishes on the menu - the server didn't elaborate or describe ingredients, when knife was taken away after salads it wasn't replaced for entree). Service should be better at their pricepoint, could take pointers from Mille Fleurs in the village at RSF.

Service was wonderful and food was excellent, with the exception of one of our parties main courses. A wagyu beef new york strip was ordered as the main entree. The steak was ordered medium, and was received as such, however it had been charred on one side of the steak to a nearly unedible state. I didn't pick it out right away from visual as it appeared that the most charred area was covered by the oyster mushrooms and foie gras butter, but it was not enough to cover the excessive burnt flavor on the steak. Instead of causing a scene on my 10th wedding anniversary I simply cut away the the charred portion of the steak as I went. A dissappointment for a $50 plate. The remainder of our courses were heavenly.

We really enjoyed this restaurant although the atmosphere was a bit off... it serves wonderful food in a resort setting but the resort makes it very casual... so what feels like fancy food ends down a notch due to the general laid back feel of the place. The servers were great, however. It just happened to have a party of about 8 or 10 little girls dining when we were there which made it even less adult like.
