We made dinner reservations for the wrong night. It was a mad house when we arrived. No space for even a drink at the bar - or anywhere else. If it wasn't for the valet finding us seats, we probably would have left. Once we had a table, we enjoyed our dining experience.

and the menus - and the room - and the hostesses - all make this our go-to spot from home. We end up heading over a couple of times a week. Children like ordering from the Pony Room menu - calamari, pizzas, upmarket tacos. Scallops, cap on rib eye, Dover sole.

Wonderful restaurant for our anniversary dinner. Food was great (lobster salad, filet mignon, cedar plank salmon), wine list was extensive and interesting, and it was quiet enough for private conversation. If we didn't live nearby, we would be tempted to vacation here at the Rancho Valencia ... they have a casual, upscale vibe that is just right.

Veladora is a special place. We do not live in the area and were meeting friends who were staying in Del Mar from the East Coast. The restaurant is beautiful both with inside and outside dining. The service was impeccable and the food was delicious. Portions are not huge but adequate. They also have an extensive cocktail and wine list. Looking forward to another opportunity to dine here.

This is a very special spot. The surroundings are magnificent, the food among the best and the service was perfect. I have never had a Beef Rib Cap before, but I will be seeking it out again! The octopus was excellent (although a bit too many potatoes and too little octopus). The goat cheese salad was just like we had in St. Barth's. The vegetable salad looked delicious and fresh. The Dover Sole was exquisite! The chocolate soufflé was perfection. All in all, a delightful evening. Although a bit pricey, it lived up to it.

We were very disappointed by the service. We did not get our bread until we asked for it. That was important for us before we taste tested our bottle of wine. The bread arrived at the same time as our entrée. Our waitress was nice but lacked class. She was not refined in her dialogue. The food was excellent and the oysters were wonderful as was the wine.

Veladora is hidden away in the Fairbanks Ranch at the Rancho Valencia Resort and Spa. It is very expensive, but the ambience, service and wine list support the cost. Food is small portions, which the ladies liked, but I would have enjoyed a more substantial plateful of my spaghettini and lobster. I am not exactly sure the lobster chunks I got were from Maine lobsters as advertised; regardless, they were tasty, but small in stature. My wife had an excellent grilled fish, and our dinner partners seemed pleased with their choices as well. They did not carry Rombauer Chardonnay and they were out of DuMol , but the Lewis Chardonnay they offered was a good alternative. Great for a very special occasion. As noted, excellent service, but pricey!!

We visited Veladora while staying at the Rancho Valencia resort. Service was excellent. There seems to be a higher staff to customer ratio than at most restaurants. We had the Risotto as an appetizer, which was very well prepared and seasoned. My wife had the scallops and I had the Filet Mignon. Our entrées were prepared beautifully. The steak was exactly as ordered. We had the chocolate soufflé for dessert. Wow! The whole meal, from start to finish, was a wonderful dining experience.

My wife and I went her for our 5 year anniversary as a recommendation from a friend, we were looking for something romantic that we have never been to before. The price is as advertised, it is not a cheap restaurant but the food and service was excellent. I let the hostess know via open table and phone call that it was our anniversary, they welcomed us we complimentary glass of champagne and an after dinner liquor. Definitely recommended for special occasions.

Can't believe I've never been to this restaurant before! What a treat, great value, delicious meals, wanted to get a second helping of the squash soup to go! Every detail of the restaurant was considered, from the lighting, to the view to the emblem on the wine glasses. Even the waiters wore blue jeans, which at first I thought was unusual, but all wore the same ones with a casual fit, and very professional looking with a stark white shirt. Food was perfectly displayed, the piece of salmon I got was more than I could eat. And we got a piece of homemade toffee to go - great touch! The only slightly critical item I'd mention is that their, by the glass, selection of wines could use a few more choices. I will be back!

Brought the family here for a birthday luncheon but they did not acknowledge it until after we were seated. The ambiance is nice, but the food is not up to par. Nothing we ordered was particularly good and the service was offhanded. To top it off, they cancelled my Opentable reservation *while* I was waiting 25 minutes for a flatbread. Wanted to like it but didn't.

My friends loved the food and wine - our birthday celebrant was given complimentary champagne, and a wonderful dessert surprise! We asked our server, Tyler, if there was a walking area to see the gorgeous grounds, and he took us to the path which led us through the well kept landscape. The day was gorgeous for a walk, even though we left foggy skies in Oceanside. The parking attendant set my I-phone showing me the back route to get home (it was Friday, the freeway was jammed, and the phone is smarter than I am).

Rare that I would ever "send something back" but the Dover Sole I was served was inedible. It was rubbery and hard to cut, even with a knife. Our server defended it saying "sole tends to be a firmer cut of fish." Excuse me? On the other hand, all others in our party enjoyed their meals as I did with the Octopus appetizer. We expected the food prices to be higher and were pleasantly surprised as we found (other than the Sole) the prices to be very reasonable given the ambience, quality of the food and table settings. The wine list is also very well priced with many very drinkable bottles less that $50. The sommelier's description of the bottle we ordered was spot on and exactly what we were looking for.

We had been going to the restaurant for years before the change. The music was so loud from the bar and in the restaurant we couldn't hear our guestsl. We told them we were taking them to a quiet restaurant. I was embarrassed. The people in the restaurant were mid-50 to 70. The music was not very fitting for the clientele. We will not come back unless we can sit outside in the summer. Also the hostess wouldn't change our table since one of our guests had a bad back. She said all the tables were taken (at 5:45) and we couldn't change. There was not one other person in the place at that time. Of course, she smiled and apologized. It's a little hard to take that from someone that's about 19 years old that can't walk in heels!

As my husband and I were married at this property we always return each year to celebrate---and each year we wonder why we only tend to come once during a 365 day span! Our service, starting from the hostess, through the attentive waiter (Hunter) and even the bus boy and a visit to the table by the manager, were all exceptional. Though certainly to the more expensive side, the plates were sizable and my husband's steak melted in his mouth---my swordfish was simple, yet delicious. Having cocktails in their bar beforehand is also special, with a bartender who knew his mixology. A definite for any special occasion, or when you just feel like being treated special/
