The menu was a four course dinner. Our first courses included soup, salad, swordfish carpaccio, and the hit of the evening, polenta fries. The pasta course included all the favorites--only the butternut squash ravioli disappointed (amaretti cookie crumbs just didn't work). Beef and fish dishes were great, but we were all jealous of the pork shank. Cannoli was truly special, but the Tiramisu was also excellent. The servers were excellent and staff had noted our comments and ensured that our table was convenient for our father, who is in a wheel chair.

don't know any better. It seems as if this place is past it's prime. Might have been good ten years ago but the aging dining ware and uninspired menu seem dated. The food was also cold by the time it got to our table. The pasta & sauces were cafeteria grade. No soul. The staff seemed unhappy.

Palio offers dinner deals (e.g. $130 dinner for two for $59) which are a good value for SF. But, the restaurant is tired, is a little buried in the Financial District, and the food, while good, is not creative - we had a very nice caesar salad (no other interesting options), a well prepared risotto, and medium veal scaloppine (veal was over cooked). We were looking for a "nice nite out" and Palio was really, just an OK meal for a good price.

Bought a TravelZoo Promotion---3 course dinner for four with four seasonal cocktails. Server was Abbey--she was excellent--efficient and not obtrusive. Salads and soups excellent---large portions. We each got a small order of pasta as our second course. I had the chicken liver pasta--wow--delicious---I will be back for a full order--also had the ravioli with Brussel sprouts and the crab and shrimp pasta---delicious!!! Entrees: 2 roasted chicken with numerous vegetables, veal and pork osso bucco-all perfect in everyday. Quiet table--nice atmosphere. Manager came to table a couple of times to check on us. I heard they have a great Happy Hour--buy 2 drinks--get any pizza for a buck--not a better deal in the city than that.

Overall we really enjoyed our dinner at Palio. The service was excellent, wine list good and not outrageously priced. I think the fixed price Thanksgiving dinner was a little over priced, however. The stuffing was just ok and that's my favorite. The truffle potatoes were fantastic as were the mushrooms. The desserts were good, but for $59.00 I think they should have been really good! I would definitely go back to Palio as a good friend eats there often and just loves it!

This is one of those examples of the menu reading far better than the execution of the food. It is essentially your mothers food with a little fluff, but not enough fluff to beat your mother out of first place. I would not recommend or ever go back. A good pizza, just a few blocks away would save you 80% for the evening and leave you much more satisfied. Stay away.

My husband frequents there all of the time. I haven't been there in years as I no longer work in SF. The food is as I remember it--savory, tasty, cooked to perfection. We brought our teen daughters there on the Wed before Thanksgiving after seeing a play and they loved it as well. Looking forward to returning!

Unfortunately I do not remember his name, our server was a great guy and the owner/ or manager was also very attentive. Great food and drinks - excellent seasonal cocktails, tasted a variety of appetizers they were all tasty, especially the polenta and the burrata. All diners enjoyed their entrees and as usual the desserts were a great success, especially the tiramisu. However, service is not up to par with the food. While our server was very nice and knowledgable, we had to wait several minutes for the greeter, and when seated the service was extremely slow despite the fact that the restaurant wasn't too full. Ok if you are not in a rush and not too hungry, but otherwise not so great.

I went there one night with some co-workers and the food and service were great. They have some very authentic Italian dishes-the wild boar pasta was fantastic. It was so good I went back the next night with my wife. Food was even better but the waitress we had the first night provided better service than the waiter the second night which is why I marked the service down a little. Overall still a great place.

This was our first visit to this fine Italian restaurant and we were very pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. We took advantage of a Travel-zoo coupon that provided us with our choice of several dishes to make up a three-course dinner. The portions were extremely generous and very tasty. I had the New York steak which was the most expensive item on the menu at $32 and it was done perfectly. My wife had the pork shank and was very pleased with it. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for excellent Italian food at a reasonable price.

Everything started out nicely, beautiful space, staff accommodating, knowledgeable. Had a "groupon" thing; management accommodating in helping us figure it out; worked out really well. Our only issues was a large party came in mid-meal. Our meals were delayed and served cold. The restaurant was so focused on this unexpected big party they completely forgot about us. Out apps were great, steamy hot, drinks were great but all downhill from there. My friends, whom I was treating, were gracious and never complained. They actually really loved the place and because we were old friends having a reunion, we were able to overlook a lot. I did mention to manager on way out but he was so frazzled by then. Overall, deserve another chance.

This was a great find. Located in the middle of downtown and the Financial District, the restaurant was a nice find. The food was great, and the service was attentive. The wine list was extensive, and we were quite impressed how our server did a fantastic job pairing both of our meals to find a suitable bottle for both. The prices were reasonable, and the ambiance was great. I would recommend a friend here.

We made the reservation at the restaurant for 5 people based on Yelp's website. It was the only Italian restaurant in the Financial area that would take a reservation for 5. We find the restaurant to be comfortable. For a Saturday night, there were very few diners. The service was not that great. It was OK. The food was also alright, but nothing memorable. In all it was a pleasant evening, but I would not go back or recommend the restaurant to friends.

I had read some reviews about slow service and mediocre food, so, we debated between Palio D'Asti and Scala's. We knew Scala's well and have always enjoyed the ambiance and food, but, we wanted to try a new place that was in the Embarcadero. The menu was impressive; great waitress and attentive service by the Maitre d'. Good use of seasonal food; the Zuppa Di Zucca and the Veal Bolognese were delicious; the Pasta with Chicken Livers was tasty, but, needed more pasta & sauce. The Pumpkin cheesecake wasn't sweet enough. The Sorbet and Tiramisu were great. I recommend eating in the back section as it had more ambiance and more interesting décor. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience.

Food is decent but service is extremely slow and lacking. We dine out regularly and came to Palio because we had tickets to 8 pm show at Punchline. We arrived at 6:25 pm, ordered drink, appetizers and entrees all at the same time. Took 15 mins to get first drink, and half an hour to get our appetizers. We ordered a second drink, 15 minutes later our drink was no where in sight. We had to walk up to the bar to inquire about our drink order. By 7:35 pm (over an hour later), our entrees were still not ready. We ended up having them box up all our entrees because we were later for 8 pm show. Don't know if our bad experience was due to one particular waitress. The manger of restaurant seemed nice and he apologized for the slow service.

I have been to Palio at least a half dozen times, and this was my most disappointing visit to date. The service has never been particularly fast, but it seemed especially slow yesterday. Also, I found my meal to be lacking as well. I ordered the pork loin, only it was actually a boneless pork loin chop and was very overcooked - tough and dry. If we hadn't already been waiting for our food for so long I might have requested they give it another shot, but I didn't want to wait nor make my companions wait. It said it came with corn, and it did...lots of it, but not sure that the huge mound of corn was entirely fitting. Again, usually I find their food to at least be good, but this time not so much. Hopefully next time will be up to par.
