    OpenTable Diner Since 2007

We decided to go to Bistro Vendome because we heard that it had the best french breakfast in town. We have lived half our lives in Europe, so maybe our standards of comparison are high, but at breakfast, we ordered the "charcuterie plate" and were surprised that it didn't come with some bread. That was extra! France is known for its bread and normally good restaurants offer an abundance of it, specially at breakfast. How can you eat "pate" with no bread? Also my son noticed that there was no handsoap in the men's restroom and one of the waiters left without washing his hands. Over an hour later, on our way out, when my husband went to use the restrooms, there was still no soap, and he had to notify the hostess. That is unacceptable!

Bistro Vendome wait staff very acommmodating in making sure we got to the theatre on time when we allowed only 50 minutes to eat and run. The food was very good, and they allowed us to come back for dessert when we didn't have time to finish in the initial seating. Very good place and the price was right.

I have wheat and dairy allergies and it's wonderful to find a restaurant where the wait staff and kitchen understand and will work with me. Anytime I find a restaurant where I can find out exactly what's in a dish and where the chef is willing to make substitutions or leave off sauces, even if it's only on one or two entrees, for me that restaurant is a rare find. I go out to eat before the theatre often, and Bistro Vendome is definitely on my list for repeat visits.

Food is superb, ambience is wonderful, elegant --this was our second experience. The service is excellent -- ait staff is very knowlegeable, experienced, professional, cordial. Special compliments to the host staff -- we were going to the theater, and our hostess made note of the time frame we needed to work in. Perhaps those recycling bins by the patio could be moved or off-limits during dining hours -- the periodic crashing of glass was disconcerting, to say the least. We dined outside, and previously we had dined indoors. As we walked through the dining room to reach our table, it did seem as if the background music was louder than I remembered, and that's an issue with me - I have trouble hearing a conversation over loud music.

Our experince at Bistro Vendome was great. We chose this restaurant to celebrate our first wedding anniversary. The food was fantastic, great service, and more than reasonable prices. The only drawback was that there were small children in the restaurant. The atmosphere is not condusive for children and rightfully so. I understand that people who dine have children but there should be rules about bringing crying baby to a restaurant. Other than this one negative aspect, everything else was perfect!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005

Almost gave food only 3 stars: the menu is too rich. The dishes aren't too rich b/c they're supposed to be that way; there just aren't enough options that are intended to be lighter in the first place. Definitely the service doesn't stand out: plates cleared before everyone's done eating, american-style familiarity and casualness that doesn't fit in the french atmosphere, etc. Some better cheap wines would more fit the true bistro character!

There are so many good dining choices in Denver but Bistro Vendome is always at the top of our list. They focus on doing a few things extremely well, making subtle changes in flavors and presentation while leaving the basic (excellent) menu intact. We love the intimate, friendly atmosphere, and find that it's always a good choice, whether it's a special occasion dinner or simply unwinding on Friday evening after a demanding work week.

The Bistro seemed a bit overwhelmed and it was very busy. I think they forgot about the start of Baseball season. At 12:30 they had run out of queche and crepes. It took a little over a half hour to get our food once we ordered. The waiter was very good and bought us a drink while we waited, before we had to say anything. I think it was just one of those days. We had eaten there before and will again. BB

Food service was quite slow. It took awhile for the appetizer to come out and then dinner tooks ages to come out. I ordered "broiled trout." The trout came out pale and white, perhaps poached or maybe baked, but definitely not broiled. I let the server know that the menu description was not what was served. He comped us a dessert, which was nice of him. Also, they give you a white paper bag when you get there, with a small loaf of bread in it. It being a French restaurant, one would assume French bread but it was sourdough. Also, I had made reservations and wanted to sit in the lovely main dining room, but it was full and so we were seated in the hall dining area, against a window of the connecting bridal shop. Very strange and unromantic.

Seated promptly. Pleasant and efficient service by everyone. When asked, waiter explained that "med-rare" "would be "rare" elsewhere. Two had steak-frites, one had duck. Fine food, except the frites, while tasty, are just weird with that sprinkling of sugar. Two desserts, Bananas Foster (not flamed) and creme brulee, were enjoyable.

Food was good. Service was just okay. My husband asked for a house red and was told a good cab they had by the glass was $15. Just seemed like a french restaurant would have more red wine options by the glass and at more reasonable prices. The restaurant is very small, and so expect unavoidable noise and tight seating/table space.
