Overall the restaurant is in a nice location in the Vista and the food was very good. We loved the Firecracker shrimp appetizer. We had the salmon, mahi, steak and the swordfish special. All the food was well prepared and extremely fresh. Many entrees had sauces which we asked for on the side. The restaurant accommodated other special requests. The service was a bit slow and they forgot to deliver our soup/salads. The server promptly removed them from our bill when we pointed it out. No manager visited the table after the mistake was uncovered which was disappointing - we were not looking for a credit or anything but an apology would have been nice. Regardless we would return again for that Firecracker Shrimp.

We were in town with my in-laws to celebrate our son's 20th birthday, so we were a party of six and were thankful we could make a reservation on Open Table ahead of time. We had a diverse group in regard to food preferences, from foodies to very traditional, and everyone was pleased with the food. The only exception was the Charleston crab cake, but we are from Virginia and are used to Virginia/Maryland crab cakes made with chunks of backfin crab meat and not many spices. The noise level was high and I could hardly hear the person across from me during a conversation. Our waitress was exceptional!

Several of us at the table ordered the She Crab Soup. We all agreed that is was terrible - the taste of the sherry was overpowering, there was no taste of crab and the texture of the soup was unappealing.

We were expecting a super fancy, maybe even pretentious kind of place. NOT AT ALL! The service, food, menu options and overall quality of the place was top notch, but the atmosphere was not the least bit stuffy. It was an incredibly comfortable meal and evening. Can't wait to go back again! Thank you so much, Blue Marlin! **The Salmon Pontchartrain was excellent!

This was our first time there as we were there for parents weekend. The host and hostess were the friendliest two people that we've met. Our table was ready for us immediately. The wait staff as well were friendly and professional. Service was great and so was the food. Atmosphere was very comfortable and inviting. Great job to all and will be back.

Took a group of 6 here for a birthday dinner. The drinks menu includes several creative cocktails. The Wine list is relative short, maybe 3 dozen wines; but, it includes some very good wines at a spectrum of price points. They staff seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by the Thursday Night crowd that arrived early for Parent's Weekend at UoSC; but, we weren't in a hurry so it didn't matter. Our wator was busy but conscientious. Our table ordered She Crab Soup, Crab & Spinach Fondue, Oyster & Shrimp Skillet Bienville, Tilapia Charleston, Crispy Gulf Oysters, and Fried Gulf Shrimp. Each dinner was a generous portions and very good, so no one made it to dessert. I will go back!

The portions are enormous and I went with 2 hungry 18year old boys with eyes bigger than their stomachs! We ordered fried calamari, a sampler platter and the she crab soup to start. That would have been enough right there. The soup was the winner of the apps. 2 of us ordered the shrimp and grits and the other ordered the firecracker flounder. That dish had 2 very large full portions on one plate. The shrimp and grits was plentiful too. We could have easily shared it. Service was great and the food was enjoyable. The boys liked it a lot.

While visiting Columbia my cousin suggested we try Blue Marlin. We made dinner reservations and arrived a 10 minutes early and were seated without a problem. The scene is vibrant but cool casual. We were seated in a large spacious booth. Our waitress Erica was friendly and efficient without being obtrusive. We were not rushed during the apps and entrees. We enjoyed a great dinner starting with a few nice martinis and some fresh warm fantastic bread. The star of the meal turned out to be shrimp and grits which was outstanding. My cousins also enjoyed the flounder and crab cakes. I would definitely recommend Blue Marlin when visiting or for those residing in Columbia.

We had not been to the Blue Marlin since our daughter graduated from USC in 2001. We had fond memories of the food and entire experience and we were so happy to see the food was as good as we remembered . The skillet dinner featuring oysters and shrimp is wonderful. The salmon was delicious . The generous Caesar salad served two of is nicely. A good feeling with happy loudly diners.

... if Blue Marlin opened a restaurant in Raleigh. Then I could eat there every week :). Great food, wonderful atmosphere, excellent service, and I don't have to wash any dishes. Thank you as always for a wonderful dining experience. My daughter and son-in-law are leaving for 3 years in Germany and this was my chance to say "goodbye" and give them a great send-off from one of their favorite places to eat, and mine too. Just no chance to come back for a while and that makes me sad :( - can you tell?

We went for dinner at the Blue Marlin before a show at Township Auditorium. The service was prompt, the staff courteous and helpful, but not overbearing. We shared appetizers, (loved the calamari), and had excellent rib-eye, crabcakes, and mahi-mahi. Enjoyed both draft beer and wine with our meals-excellent selections of both. Prices were appropriate for the food and service. We loved the place, and will definitely be back!

My husband and I are new residents to the Columbia area, so we went to Blue Marlin to check out the Vista area that we have been hearing and reading about. The food was very good--I had Firecracker Flounder and my husband had Bienville, but I was especially impressed with the craft cocktails served at the Blue Marlin. Having just arrived from the Chicago area, I find the cocktail offerings at Blue Marlin absolutely delightful. My husband had a Dark & Stormy and I had the Smoked Hibisco Sour. Next time I'll try the Ebb and Flow!

Food was excellent, waiter acted like he had something or somewhere more important to be, constantly looking around the whole time he talked to us. Had to flag down another waitress to get our bill, since he was no where to be found. Apparently he was on an extended smoking break because when he finally brought our bill he wreaked of smoke.

I was given this recommendation by a friend and I went to eat there with my daughter while traveling to visit USC for a college tour. The Mahi I ordered was good but not notable. The shrimp and grits had good depth of flavor but should have been half the size with some greens on the side. Our waiter was robotic; present, mildly attentive, but devoid of personality or cheer. We opted to go elsewhere for dessert. I'd recommend it because it was decent but not with enthusiasm.

We just moved to Columbia from Myrtle Beach and having tried several different restaurants in the Columbia Metro area, we found the Blue Marlin up there at the top of our list. I have had Shrimp and Grits in different restaurants and found my plate at the Blue Marlin was very good. My wife loves Fried Green Tomatoes. She was reluctant to order these not knowing anyone who has ordered them before but, she also was pleasantly surprised how good they were. We both decided we would return again trying different Southern dishes. Dishes were priced average and the service was excellent. Kudos to the Blue Marlin.
