A word from Legal Sea Foods - 7th Street
The signature dish at Legal Sea Foods – really fresh fish.
Legal Sea Foods has long proven that a consistent, high quality dining experience never goes out of style. With over 40 varieties of fresh fish and shellfish available throughout the year as well as an award-winning wine list, there’s no doubt why legions of fans have fallen hook, line and sinker. A bipartisan favorite, we have occupied the nation’s capital since 1995, anchored across from the Verizon Center and around the corner from the International Spy Museum, National Portrait Gallery and Chinatown.

Make waves at our racetrack-shaped bar or sup on seafood underneath the hull-like ceiling in our restaurant’s main dining room. Either way, be presidential and order a cup of our New England Clam Chowder; it’s been served at every Inauguration since 1981. Other accolades include being named “#1 Best Seafood Restaurant” in a nationwide poll by USA Today (2013).

Food was very good. Service was good. However, the server made two mistakes on the bill totally over $25. We hope it was an honest mistake.

I'm quite familiar with the Legal Sea Foods chain as I'm a native Bostonian. And being familiar, I expected good food. However, since living in the DC area I've grown fond of the Maryland crab meat. So when I ordered the stuff shrimp I was expecting shrimp stuffed with crab meat, not a bunch of bread with some crab strings in it. The flavor was good, but just now what I was expecting. I say all this to say, I think Legal Sea Foods needs to prepare their dishes in the vein of this area (i.e., shrimp stuffed with crab meat and not bread stuffing). Other than that, all was great... Great service, great drinks, & good food.

Had a horrible server. She didn't know what a flight of wine was, and it took 20 minutes to get said flight. What little food we had, however, was excellent. I'd try again.

Excellent food but cramped seating, packed to the gills (excuse the pun), and the noise level was terrible. The dinner made it worthwhile however- I would be reluctant to return unless I knew it was a slower time of the evening.

Terribly disappointing. I have been eating at Legal Seafood restaurants for 30 years and this was the worst. Food wasn't well prepared and the decor was shabby. The place needs an overhaul.

First, I have to say that we had the swordfish and the stuffed shrimp. Both were outstanding. The New England clam chowder was superior as well. The restaurant is in a great area of DC right near the Verizon Center, Chinatown, and a Metro stop. Great location for dining especially if you're shopping at any of the myriad shops in the area. There are also a theater and bowling alley next to the restaurant, so it can be incorporated into a bigger night out. Excellent place.

The oyster selection was a real plus and the condition of the oysters on the half shell was superb. The fried calamari appitizer was not greasy, but was served late to the member of our party of four, after the other appitizers. The late calamari resulted in the main courses being held back too long and the red onions on top of the "Red onion jam Swordfish" were cold when they arrived at the table.

I've been to several Legal Seafood locations and enjoyed the experience each time, although the trip to this location was less pleasurable than the others. The restaurant is the smallest of the Legals I've been to and so it appeared very crowded (and noisy). The food quality was overall very good, although I didn't care for how the Mahi Mahi special I ordered was prepared. The service (particularly obtaining our check at the end of the meal and then obtaining the credit card receipt) was painfully slow.

I have previously eaten at Legan in the Boston area, where I found the food excellent. Of course that was a few years back. I ordered (and recommended) the NE chowder (it was mediocre) and had fried scallops. Scallops were plentyful, inconsistent in size - tasted ok but nothing special. Overall the food quality was disappointing. Dianna Scherlin.

Overall the food was very good, the service was great, and the specialty cocktails were wonderful. My only mini-complaint would be the hostess needs better customer service training. Also, I made reservations for a party of 5 and when we got there, we had to wait alomost 10 minutes for them to find us 2 chairs because another table had taken them. Just need to be a little better prepared next time.

We had a 6:00 pm reservation since we were going to a 7:30 movie across the street. Although we had a reservation, we didn't get seated until around 6:20. Once we were finally seated, we had good service and found the food to be very good, although the portion of my salmon was HUGE and I was unable to finish it. We were also rushed because of our late seating. Overall it was a good experience but next time I will check the event schedule at Verizon Center as there was a hockey game that night.
