A word from 18th street Tarallucci E Vino
Tarallucci e Vino is loved for its rare, hard-to-capture Italian experience. Rated “the best and the most true to the Italian way” by Vanity Fair, Tarallucci e Vino was founded by Italians in NY to capture the casual elegance of Italy’s “bar” or “caffé” culture. Chef Andrew Welch, formerly of Essex House & Esca, joined in March 2013. He offers an artisanal, seasonal menu paired with wine from small-batch producers. His food reflects a close relationship with neighboring Greenmarket & his family’s organic farm. The result is a convivial, authentic spot perfect for having a handmade pastry & espresso in the morning, hand-crafted pasta at lunch, & a small feast at night. Other highlights include complimentary stuzzichini served with an aperitivi between 5 & 7pm; gluten free pasta; and 25 wines by the glass. Recent Ospitalità Italiana Award winner for authentic Italian cuisine, Tarallucci e Vino is known for its “sophisticated atmosphere” and is “satisfying in every way” – NY Times.

The appetizers and pastas outshine the main course offerings. The best and most-interesting-sounding items are quite sharable and make for an enjoyable dining experience. T E V defies my number one, near fail-safe restaurant evaluator, wherein an establishment is judged by its bread basket. Here the bread is mediocre, but the food is definitely not.

Appetizers were pretty good, entrees not so much. My pasta was so salty I could barely eat it. Service wasn't great either. In the middle of our meal, our waiter changed. The waiter who had been serving us was sitting at the bar having a drink with some woman.

I really enjoyed the evening at Tarallucci E Vino. The staff were great, the waiter a gem, the wine delectable. I had a problem with the menu, very restricted yet avant garde. only one real salad and combinations that couldn't be changed so it made it really hard for our group to order.I thought the menu was pretty offbeat and would recommend adding a couple of mainstream entrees to the mix, for us regular eaters. But the atmosphere was young and fun and hip! Thanks

Very good, food was great, atmosphere was very rustic/urban and befitting of the menu, which is a good thing. The only negative, and it is minor, is that the staff attitude could have been a little more down to earth.

The food was very good, and the menu was slightly larger than what appears online. The service was great in the beginning, but kind of tapered off towards the end. We had to flag our waiter down for coffee and the check. Since it was a "small plates" restaurant, I did expect the waiter to be more helpful with offering suggestions and pairings between wine and food. That being said, I would definitley go back as the food was delish!
