  • The food was good (not great)
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 5/11/2008
The food was good (not great) but the service was terrible. The server was visibly annoyed when questions were asked about the menu and children. One diner asked for eggs cooked more rather than poached. She rolled her eyes. The diner asked if that was a difficult request. Her response: "we are very busy today so I don't know if we can do that". No childrens menu to reference, just a verbal description and again, don't dare ask for a biscuit instead of grits. Another diner didn't want raisin toast and asked for plain toast. When the food came, the server brought a biscuit because "we only have raisin toast no other breads" however that was not communicated when ordered. The server was rude and not service focused at all.

We love this place- The food is terrific - The service is attentive but not stuffy - You can dress casual as you like - They let you bring your own wine if you prefer - The outside seating is quiet and comfortable, and it doesn't matter that the view is nothing special - The prices are not cheap, but I always feel like it is fair because the meal is so delicious, well prepared and served - I guess I'm a sucker for warm bread, crab cakes, mussels just to get going - We like it for special occasions, just any old romantic night alone, or even with our sons when one turned 21

I've been to Food101 in the Highlands as well. I ordered the Fried Chicken and found it to be average at best compared to the Highlands location. Not sure why there would be a difference in menu for certain items. Wine list was a little pricey for what they had on there. Would recommend going to the Highlands location if you decide to go to Food101.

Good food, convenient location. Service so-so, rather noisy (seemed like a singles night in the bar) but the overall experience was worthwhile. Have eaten at both Food 101 locations and while this location has the edge in ambiance and a better facility, the VA/Highland location has the edge in food variety and quality .... and in service.

We love this restaurant. It is close to our home, upscale yet unpretentious--warm and friendly. Our waitress, Beth was terrific. We like that they use local organic produce and meats. Appreciated the chef coming round to the tables to inquire about the meal. The person who kept our water glasses filled was more attentive than the waitperson, but service was within acceptable norms, just a bit slow on the first drink order, which is something my dining companion always notices. The cranberry mac-n-cheese side was outstanding. The pot roast was a pretty fatty cut of meat, it was very tall and jiggled. I thought they had brought out the wrong dish for our table, it was that unrecognizable. Could use more draft beer options. Will go back.
