My food came out cold. I was not going to complaint because we were having a wonderful conversation, when the waitress ask how was everything I blurred out "My food is COLD". So they replaced my meal with a hot plate of food which was excellent!! Waffles & Chicken dish tasted delicious hot!! We had a wonderful experience!!

We wanted to plan a great day with museums and a nice dinning experience. We booked at this location it was a great meal for all. The area right in front of the bar was a bit too noisy (the first time we came we sat i nthe round booth overlooking the first floor of the restaurant) so conversation was challenging. Overall, the food was great but could have been a little hotter - could tell some things stayed in the window longer than others. Great selections and will come back again when we are in the city.

My only complaint on every visit is the layout of the lobby/hostess area. It is always packed, the poor hostesses are wedged in between poles and right in the path of all traffic. They need to be over to the far left and hand out pagers, because everyone waiting huddles right by them to make sure they hear their name called over the loudness of the restaurant.

We made an effort to visit several highly rated restaurants while in DC. This one was my least favorite. It was noisy. Our server had to almost shout to communicate. Shrimp and grits was okay, not horrible, not great. My husband felt the same about his Yankee pot roast. Seasonal pickled vegetable appetizer was just a few tiny slices of vinegar soaked cucumber. On the plus side, the chocolate mousse for 2 was very good and large enough for 4. All in all not the special dining experience we hoped for.

  • Adriana Is A Great Hostess

I made a reservation for four people. About 40 minutes before the reservation time, the fourth person, who was running very late, hinted by text that an unplanned fifth person would be with them and refused to clarify if the fifth would be there or not. I talked with the hostess, Adriana, about the situation. She was understanding and unflustered by the ambiguity, cooler than I felt about it! She was open about what my party could expect and was ready to accommodate our possibly larger party. The whole thing fell apart and I had to cancel the reservation, so I can't comment on the food or other service. But Adriana's can-do responsiveness helped make the situation bearable.

We visited for brunch on a rainy Saturday. My Farmers' breakfast and my daughter's pancakes were good, but greasy. We also had the beignets, and I found them to be very heavy, with a batter that reminded me of fish. Additionally, we had a reservation and we checked in, but we still waited at least 15 minutes. When my husband checked in again at the desk, they said that we'd slipped through the cracks. Overall a disappointing trip. However, I will likely visit again and recommend to others based on my previous positive experiences with the dinner menu.

I've eaten here several times, and the food is OK but I would expect more from a place like this. They make a big deal out of their flavored popcorn... really? Short ribs (note plural) comes as one honkin piece of meat on a bone. It's comfort food all around, not especially well prepared. I'll go here again because the location is convenient (kind of a cafe for the IMF and World Bank types). Evening is LOUD especially near the bar; service not all that attentive, wine came well after meal was served. Vestibule gets REALLY crowded as people arrive for reservations (and no, there is no room at the bar).

Loud, but that's expected on a Friday night. Service? Well, literally all the food came at once. Appetizers, entree. All out same time. Oh, except for my husband's salad. That never arrived at all. And what happened to locally sourced food and bragging about it? No such signs on the dinner menu. We could have been at Cheesecake Factory for all out out of town guests knew. Big disappointment, average food, definitely did not get what we paid ($$$) for.

Founding Farmers puts the farm-to-table philosophy (fresh food, locally sourced) front and center and they mean it. Every menu item we tried was delicious - from the corn bread in the cute little skillet to possibly the best tomato soup in the world to the pasta to the seafood to the meatloaf (which was the size of a Smart car, by the way - you might want to share it with someone). The 30 minute wait even with reservations was a little irritating but with so many communal tables I guess that happens. Also, the server was very sweet but neglectful - as in not checking back, letting drinks run empty, then taking so long to deliver a second drink that the meal was finished. But the food is so very good that you will leave happy.

Met friends from out of town here for a late dinner (8:15pm) and the restaurant was packed to the gills. We arrived 10 minutes early and checked in with the hostess. They said to check back at our scheduled time and seemed annoyed at all of the people crowding their desk (it was raining so everyone was trying to cram inside). When we checked back at 8:15 pm the same girl looked at me and flatly said they were still seating the 8:00 pm reservations and that there was a backlog. Umm...ok...you could have just checked us in and told us it was running behind and you'd come find us when our table was ready. It would have saved people from having to clog the entry way.... In truth, we only had to wait about 10 minutes longer for our table but i

I loved this place! It was my favorite of all the restaurants we went to in D.C.! I wish we were in the area longer so we could go back again! I got the goat cheese ravioli. It was phenomenal! We started with the skillet cornbread and 2 of us ate the entire thing. My birthday happened to be that day, so we celebrated with the red velvet cake. No regrets! I loved every bite. Well okay one regret... we didn't get the bacon lollies.. NEXT time!

I've now been there on three separate occasions, and had similar experiences each time. The food isn't bad, but isn't anything all that special either--the restaurant is way over-hyped. Farm-to-table is great, but you still have to prepare the food well--The ingredients don't do all the work by themselves. The service was good, but they were already out of numerous signature items by the time we ordered (which was around 7:30--not late at all).

We arrived about 5 minutes early for the reservation and checked in with the hostess. We stood approximately 5 feet from the hostess station and waited another 15 minutes and when we again checked on the status, the hostess said someone else had taken our reservation. I am not sure how that could have happened since they never called my name however they made it right and sat us immediately. After the initial mishap everything went smoothly and the food and the service were great!

It took ten minutes before our server brought water to the table. It was 25 minutes later before the salads we ordered arrived at the table. The entrées (whenever they finally arrived) had so much salt, we couldn't detect any other flavors. For a resturant that bills itself as a farm-fresh, true-food experience the food was extremely disappointing. Combined with the atrocious service, this restaurant left a horrible impression.
