I went online and found two tables one for 4 pm and one for 4:30, I chose the later and with in seconds we had our Reservation! I was thinking this early of a date would be a bad choice but this proved to be untrue.Upon arriving we were brought to a fabulous corner window table upstairs with a panoramic view of the Bay Area and that evenings sunset! Thanks Van's, You made my Valentines Day extra special for both my Date and I!

Once again -our visit to the Van's met our already high expectations. The Thai Chicken Salad was delicious- the dressing just right and the mixin's hit the mark, with take home portions.. The French Dip was tender, juicy, the au jus was beefy , not too salty and able.

The Van's (on the hill) is truly a rare gem among the many "generic" restaurants in the Bay Area. This historic landmark offers sweeping views of the Peninsula, Bay and San Mateo Bridges, and the East Bay. The waiters are warm and friendly and remember returning customers fondly. The food includes many home-made, unique recipes, from salads to desserts. I highly recommend dining at The Van's!

This is one of our favorite places to eat, we have eaten here many times and have always been happy with the service, food and the great view. We like to ask for a window table for the view, but even if a window table is not available dining is really great. Thanks to the Van's good dining experience.

This is a choice I will make again. Atmosphere, food, and great service combined to be a winner. I haven't found many restaurants that offer a Monte Carlo sandwich on their menus --- this one was all I remembered it to be --- delicious! Our waitress was pleasant, efficient and helpful without being "too much". Of course, the open-air view from the top of the hill only added to the enjoyment of the occasion.

Went here for a 'Last Day of Vacation' dinner. Got a bit dressed up, which seemed proper, but not necessary We started off with the calamari...probably the best I've ever had. It was crisp and tender and delicious. I ordered the medallions of beef with garlic mashed potatoes. So tender!!! The sauce and mushrooms were a great compliment. And the garlic mashed potatoes were so creamy! My date got the filet mignon. Again delicious. For dessert we ordered the New York cheese cake and the white chocolate banana cream pie (they were out of the piña colada pie) The cheesecake was alright and I was a bit confused by the presentation of my pie. A little too heavy for my taste. Overall, dinner was amazing! Dessert, could have lived without

We dined again at the Van's restaurat in Belmont. However, once again I was let down. The bar is very good for a neighborhood bar and the bar staff very courteous. My meal and others at the table was very bland and expensive for the plate. Although accommodating when asked, the wait staff was a bit slow and hard to find at times. The view is wonderful and this could be a terrific restaurant, just needs a little help in the kitchen - perhaps I will try the Van's again in a couple years.

Van's have been around for decades and I would say that majority of their clients have been coming to Van's for "decades". :) Yes, a bit on the senior spectrum, but don't let that deter you from giving Van's a try. We had dinner with some friends during the Christmas season and Van's goes all out with their Christmas lights on the outside so you can spot them a mile away. Our party had the Chicken Liver and Filet while I had the Beef Medallions. The Medallions were super tender and the mushroom sauce was perfect. I'm assuming my friends enjoyed their food as well as they were practically licking their dishes clean. If you're looking for good food, service, and views of the Peninsula, give Van's a try.

Every time we have been here the "joint was jumping" and that's a good thing, a very good thing. The views are absolutely stunning! The folks that run the place are very friendly and most importantly, the food is delicious and is served by quite friendly and highly efficient wait personnel. What more can you ask for? This is the place to take that favorite person, those out of town visitors and everyone else that you might know. It is quite a treat! This is one of the finest restaurants to experience in all of San Mateo County!

Came here for a family dinner on Christmas Eve 2013. Although we made a reservation at 7:15 pm and showed up on time, we were not seated until about 8pm. We ordered: - A few appetizers - Pork chop with a side of salad - Maine lobster - Grilled salmon - Prime Rib The appetizers came about 8:30pm, and the main dishes at about 9:30pm. By this time we were hungry and impatient. The lobster portion was very small and very salty. We had to share our entrees in order to make up for this. The salmon was tender and juicy. Pork chop was OK. The prime rib was cooked just right, however also too salty. Overall, the food was mediocre and oversalted. Parking was a disaster, service was extremely slow, and food was pretty bad. We won't be back again.

My wife and I have dined here several times over the past ten years. The last time, during the worst of the last recession, had me vowing we would never go back. They offered indifferent service and food (prime rib) that couldn't be chewed. This time on Christmas Eve, they seem to have turned it around. Maybe they were putting their best foot forward for the holiday. I like the style of the place, but "approach with caution" is my advice.

The service was outstanding at our birthday celebration luncheon. The staff was pleasant, helpful, and friendly. The restaurant has a casual elegance and lovely views. The food was good although I was disappointed my grilled salmon which was supposed to come with rice and vegetables, came with just rice and mushrooms. Was expecting an array of grilled vegetables.

Adreian our waiter who's been there forever was again outstanding. You just have to go there once in awhile. Prices are still good for what U get. White table cloths, which is rare nowdays.

I've seen this place for ever on the hill. The travelzoo voucher made it easy for me to try it out. Not sure I would return. We arrived early for our reservation, although the place was half empty, I was turned away and told to come back at the reserved time. The service was very slow, only one server for the section with about 6 tables. Once the food arrived, she forgot (2) of the sides that were ordered with dinner. The food was good, not great. I would be okay with the price, if the food and service was better. The restaurant has a great look/feel to it. It feels like a place you would see "Frank Sinatra & his Friends" at. I really wanted to Love this place, but just was okay.

I wouldn't choose this place again, but I also wouldnt disagree with accompanying someone again. Unfortunately, the items I wanted to have weren't available for lunch so I didnt undersatnd all the excitement. My salmon over garlic mashed was fair, not outstanding.
