After reviewing the menu online, I thought this was an upscale restaurant. Once we arrived, I was disappointed to find it was a casual restaurant. That said, the food was good and the service generally good as well although our sever seemed a bit distant, disinterested, and indifferent at times. I would recommend this as a "girls night out" kind of place but not one I would recommend for celebrating something special like one's wedding anniversary. Not at all a romantic destination.

Although we had a reservation, we still had to wait 20 minutes for our table. The noise level is very high, so it is very difficult to carry on conversations at our table. Our server was fine, but very slow and she messed up our order. The food was good, and the menu has a fair number of choices. I would go back, but not on a weekend night.

On a quiet night, had 3 waiters walk by us and ignore us for 10 minutes until we asked for a waiter. Then a nervous waiter from another section was sent to our table and rambled off the specials as fast as he could. After we received our drinks, a different waiter showed up. We never received a wine list until we requested one. The food was below average and underwhelming and the service was terrible. This was our second visit since we thought we would give the restaurant another chance. They have a long eay to go. Would suggest they go observe at Clyde's to see how it should be done.

I had the thyme-seared salmon with orzo and spinach which was very tasty -- crisp on the outside but not overcooked. My husband had the traditional steak/frites which he said was very good. It's the typical thin steak that you'd get in a bistro in France with a big pile of fried potatoes. We shared the profiteroles for dessert and they were reminiscent of the ones we've had in Paris.

Good atmosphere, good food, but the service was lacking. It was our anniversary & we were placed at a booth at the front door - not the most romantic location. We ordered Drinks, Appetizers, Salad & Entree's. The appetizers came minutes before the Entree's & they forgot the salads completely. The food on the other hand was excellent! The steaks were cooked exactly as ordered & the potato fries were wonderful. I will attribute the service to growing pains & would definitely return for a second try.

Excellent service. The dining room is crowded and very, very noisy, however, which definitely detracted from the ambiance. The food was very good - really really good baked cheese dip to start, and both the french onion and butternut squash soups were outstanding. The house steak was very good, although we were a little too full at that point to appreciate it. The frites were a nice touch, and perfectly fried.

Overall we had a good experience. My wife's steak was a little overcooked, but it still tasted good, so she did not send it back. We told our waitress (who offered to cook a new one) and she got the manager who offered to comp the steak. We also overheard a complaint from the table next to us that the steak was overcooked. We'll have to go back to see if this was just the restaurant getting into the swing of things since it is new or a recurring issues.

The steaks served were chewy. Three of us had the standard steak and frites and one had strip steak. The server was also unable to identify the cut of steak that was being served. The potatoes served did not resemble any pommes frites a French person (or for that matter an American) would recognize and one of our party was French. The were also not very hot. Wine by the glass was served in an oversized glass and poured by the served. Two of the party received considerably more wine than the other two. If wine is served in this way it should be presented in a premeasured contained.

Wow -- were we pleasantly surprised! We had gotten a sampling of Mon Ami Gabi during the "Taste of Reston" festival over the summer and decided to eat there. Our experience was top-notch: 1. They promptly seated us when we arrived (I know restaurants are expected to do this, but so many make you wait!) 2. Our server was prompt, polite, and well informed 3. The butternut squash soup and baked brie appetizer were excellent 4. The Filet Mignon au Poivre was simply best we've ever had 5. The Steak Roquefort was stunningly flavorful and prepared perfectly 6. Many people kept refilling our water (not just our server), so it was clear they were paying attention The only "negative" was the noise - it was loud, but it added to the bistro feel

My wife and I chose Mon Ami Gabi (MAG) for our anniversary dinner and because we had our 9 month old baby with us, we needed a place that offered food that an emerging solid food palate would enjoy. MAG was terrific in this respect - he greatly enjoyed his mac-n-cheese and mashed potatoes. I had the steak au poivre and my wife the trout. Both meals were befitting a much more expensive restaurant. The wine by the glass selections, the appetizer choices, and the dessert options were of the same high quality. The service was more attentive and courteous than at restaurants at twice the price. Although we live in Upper Marlboro and were in the Reston area for another reason, we would definitely make a special trip here for another meal.

I enjoyed my meal here. The filet mignon was delicious as was the grand marnier soufle! We also enjoyed the hot, fresh bread. The only negative was that the bus boy was overly enthusiastic to clean our table, making our meal feel very rushed. I thought perhaps they were trying to get us out fast, but then we waited almost 20 minutes for desert after he cleared away our meal. Our waitress was very good and so was the food, so aside from this annoyance I would return.

We were very disappointed in this restaurant. The steak that my husband ordered as Medium came out very, very rare, and after we sent it back, it still was not properly cooked. The souffle that was recommended by the waiter was improperly cooked - tasted very eggy and had a curdled consistency. We will not be going back to this restaurant.

The service was just perfect. Our delicious food arrived in a very timely manner -- not too quickly, not too late. The "birthday profiterole" was such a unique, pleasant and tasty surprise. This was our 2nd visit & we've enjoyed both.Great food and ambience. However, the second visit wasn't as enjoyable because of the service.Rather than being inattentive, the service was too attentive so that we actually felt rushed. Not all tables were full & there was no one waiting for a table, so I don't believe we were intentionally rushed. However, the staff seemed overeager to clear the table, even taking our bread plate after we ate the appetizers & before the meal was served. As soon as my husband finished his dinner someone wisked the plate away & tried to take mine as well even though I still had some of those great pommes frites left. What was supposed to be a leisurely dinner was not as leisurely as I would've like. But we'll return.

Food was average at best. Wait times for tables, even for reservations were well above what would be considered reasonable, even on a Sat. night (we waited 30 mins. for our "reserved" table, walk in times were exceeding 1.5 hours at 8p). Restaurant was loud. All of these things put together led us to conclude we would not be quick to return, it's just another chain restaurant in Reston Town Center, nothing special.

Had a business lunch/out of office discussion this week with co-workers. Restaurant was empty when we arrived, but filled up fast. Interesting food choices and delicious entrees. Our disappointment came with dessert - we decided to order one and split, and we asked the waiter for a fast recommendation. We ordered the chocolate mousse... and waited and waited and waited. It showed up 20 minutes later with a shrug of the shoulders, no apology or offer to remove it from our bill. And, it was kind of a mess. Overall - food and atmosphere is good, service needs help and timing is definitely off. Hopefully it will improve over time!

If you have fine & expensive taste, this is not the place for you. Do not dine in this restaurant if you will order wine & martini since they cater for couples who are cheap - ordering soda, cheap entrees, late ordering of souffle, wearing shorts & t-shirt. You'll get the worst service ever if you order wine & martini, order your souffle with your entree, and wearing smart dressy clothes. Unless, restaurant being in Reston & French, it spells for being racist and snotty. My husband & I had the worst dining experience. We never had a bad experience in other French restaurants. Mon Ami Gabi in Reston is not a place to go for.

Wait staff was a bit intrusive. Our appetizer came w/our entrees, which led to a cluttered table. When clearing some of our plates, one of the wait staff knocked over a glass of red wine. It spilled all over my companion's shirt, the table, our entrees, and my white sweater. Fortunately I was in the restroom or I would have received the brunt of the spill. Instead I returned and unknowingly sat in a wet seat, which hadn't been wiped in my absence. After 10 min, a manager finally appeared, apologized and comped our appetizer and dessert. He volunteered to pay for the cleaning, which isn't worth the extra trip back to the restaurant . More appropriate would have been to have the wine comped as they spilled a full glass of a nice bottle.

This is a great French-bistro in Reston Town Center. Just opened in September 2008, it was packed when we arrived for our 9 p.m. reservation in late September. We shared a mussels starter -- the mussels were fresh and perfectly cooked. We sopped up the broth with chunks torn from a crispy baquette. Our entries were Steak Frite with the ultra thin steak cooked rare, as requested. The Frite reminded me of 'Potato Stix' in the can, too thin and crisp, but that won't keep me from returning again and again.
