A word from Winds Café
Winds Café is located in the small, progressive town of Yellow Springs. Visitors enjoy independent and artisan shops, riding along the bike path, hiking in Glen Helen and John Bryan State Park, music or performing arts venues and independent art films at Little Art Theater. The food is European inspired with an American twist and uses as many local ingredients as Chef Kim can find. The menu and wines change monthly to reflect the seasons, and no, you cannot have tomato on your sandwich in February. Winds Café tries to find organic producers whose methods are humane, ethical and environmentally friendly. The restaurant is committed to keeping prices affordable and the quality of the food high; and is also committed to providing excellent, informed service in a comfortable, relaxed atmosphere. In a sprawling sea of chain restaurants, Winds offers food and wine that is accessible and adventurous providing gastronomic opportunities usually only found in larger cities.

  • The Winds Cafe is a true find

The Winds Cafe is a true find for dining. The menu items ingredients, recipes and assemble are unique and very tantalizing. It is refreshing to see a restaurant that specializes in unique fare and does not try to be all things to all people. No burgers or fries or nachos, thank heaven!! As a devote of the food channel I find the entire experience a treat. The entire experience will be much enjoyed by folks with a discerning palate and a desire to try local fare at its finest. I have earned a reputation as a "food snob" and am difficult to please and at times very critical of food and food service. This food snob was impressed with the entire experience!!

Winds, as usual, delivered a fine meal and experience. The Roasted trout dish with pecan cornbread and crab stuffing was superb. The Winds staff is always top-notch as well. Winds is worth the drive!

I can always count on excellent food and an impressive spirit and wine list. This is one of the big draws to Yellow Springs and has been a favorite for a very long time.

  • I first stumbled upon this

I first stumbled upon this cafe when looking for a place for lunch with a friend. I was so impressed that my husband and I went back with a different friend for dinner. The food was outstanding on both occasions. Their tomato soup was the best and most unique I have ever had. Their seasonal pumpkin/squash lasagna lived up to the hype I had heard about it -- and more! Service for lunch was excellent but they were not very busy. Service for dinner was good but there were a couple of problems (they were extremely busy that night.) Our main courses arrived at the table before we had finished our starter salads. And, it took quite a while to get our after-dinner beverage. That said, we would definitely go back and recommend it to others!

  • While the entrance is a tad

While the entrance is a tad difficult to find, it is well worth the effort. The food is inventive and excellent. There are superb veggie and non-veggie dishes available (try the pumpkin lasagna if in season) and it is brought to you by very attentive and relaxed serving staff. The overall experience was incredible and the Tribute Cake dessert was to die for. The tea selection was great, the bread basket brought out was filled with hearty and artisan breads, and the whole thing was great beginning to end. While not big on decorations, you don't even notice. We stayed a bit longer and were the last ones to leave after lunch service. All I could say to our server is "I feel like we're the last couple to leave a really great party".

Arrived in the later end of the brunch services Sunday. Waitress should have told us at beginning our choices were limited to whatever they still had and would otherwise be throwing out. Instead that became apparent as we were served. I could hardly keep a straight face when they presented, without asking, pancakes as a substitute for biscuits with my entree then oddly mismatched. Then one waitperson came out, not our primary waitperson, and was certain that someone at our table ordered a bison burger -- not correct but we started to negotiate for it before it was snatched back. Clearly it is not good to visit Winds late in the brunch period if you expect unrushed and predictable food. The quality of what we were served was fine.

  • Delicious bread and olives.

Delicious bread and olives. Beet terrine was very good. Catalan fish was overdone and very tough. Hair in the house salad was horrible - up to this point in the meal, we had cleaned every plate; why didn't anyone ask if there was anything wrong with the salad? Salmon was tough on the outside, a little underdone in the middle. The underdone wasn't so bad, but the texture contrast from outside to inside was not so good. Pork chop was waaaaay overcooked - juicy, flavorless, and tough. It worked out my jaw muscles to get through it. Apple topping was underwhelming, as were the flavors. Butterscotch pudding was OK. Drink service throughout the meal was very slow and glass was brought when asked for a quartino. Overall service was slow.

Had breakfast brunch. Had reservation but no one greeted us & we, and others, waited wondering if we needed to walk deeper into restaurant or what. Waiter was nice, tried to be attentive but was forgetful; we had to remind him a few times on missing silverware, need for cream for coffee, etc. He was very busy which seemed to be the problem. The potato homefries were dried out and hard - probably were a 3-4 hrs old.

  • The Winds is an absolute treasure

The Winds is an absolute treasure of a creative cuisine restaurant. Their menu prices are very good value and aperitifs and wine by the glass are so reasonable. It is such a pleasure to have a wonderful dinner and not feel that you have had to pay an inflated price for the privilege. Yellow Springs is an easy going very human little town and The Winds is its' treasure. When I can be in this part of Ohio I never pass up that chance for a meal. Agnes Lenckos, Mt Lebanon, PA
