  • We sat for our 6:30 reservation
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 7/9/2008
We sat for our 6:30 reservation around 6:50 after a cocktail at the bar. I asked about the tasting menu and how it would coordinate with the regular menu. We were misguided by the waiter who said it would be fine for two diners to order the tasting menu and one to order from the regular menu. The timing did not work well. We did not expect it to take 4 hrs 15 mins to dine. We also felt like the level of service diminished after about the fourth course. It took way too long between courses. The potato was like glue. Most of the staff was then concentrating on diners in the other room. We finished around 11:15. I was hoping for a 7:00 reservation and offered 6:30 or 9:00. I can't imagine what time we would have finished with the 9:00 table!

we've been to the white barn inn a few times and always liked it and found it special. this time it just didn't feel the same. food was very good, but not amazing like it was in the past. service was also very good, but it felt stuffy and too formal this time.

As always, a truly fabulous dining experience at the White Barn Inn. Outstanding service and one of the best restaurants in the country! The cost is on the high end side, but with service and food like they serve, one doesn't seem to mind. I highly recommend.

All dishes were good, but they might put too much butter or lower quality butter(I hope not)for all dishes. Too much butter sometimes kill the flavors. We hoped a little more delicate flavors... Their desserts were very tasty, but some baked goods were harder than expected. Overall we enjoyed dinner very much. We are satisfied for their great services.

The food was excellent. Classic cuisine, aptly prepared. The veal main course was tender and flavorful. The coconut souffle desert was perfect. That said, the wine list was good, but overly expensive.

For the price of the meal (with wine, approximately $300), we expected top notch service. Our server was clearly either over committed, or distracted. It was a disappointing aspect of our visit.

This is a wonderful place. However, for the second year in a row, I have tried to give an anniversary dinner to my daughter and son-in-law at the White Barn Inn. The Inn, with my credit card and clear instructions from me, has been unsuccessful each year in charging my credit card for a special dinner for my guests. Instead, and to my embarrassment, my daughter and her husband paid for a dinner that was to be a gift from me. Once is an embarrassment, twice is really difficult. Obviously, this is not a problem for people who are paying for their dinners, only for those of us who would like to give the gift to a special family member. I apppreciate that, after the fact, the Inn has found a way to arrange the charges.

    - the food was far too expensive for what we had. It was good, but for this area and for what the bill was, it should have been extraordinary. - it is understandable that the restaurant wants its guests to be appropriately dressed but to require a jacket in a community like Kennebunkport, Maine is over the top, particularly as one would assume that anyone who could afford to pay these prices would know how to dress for dinner.

I discovered the White Barn Inn in the book 1,000 places to see before you die. And I agree with the author - this place is a real find. Delicious food, fabulous wines, and outstanding service. Truly wonderful. Two of our servers, Xavier and Christian, were fantastic. They were friendly, informative, and made the dining experience enjoyable.

While the food and service was very good, we found food that was more interesting and equally high quality, though perhaps not as lavishly presented, elsewhere in the area. White Barn spends a lot on their wait staff, and the laundry bill for all the white jackets must be significant. But in all, we didn't think it was a big enough value for the price.

Food was very good, reserve wine pairing excellent and service, very good, although a little too overbearing. If you like old-style, five waiter dinners, this is the place for you. Price was astronomical. $550 including tip for two. Four course dinner was $93 each, reserve wine pairing was $85 each (one white, one red, one dessert wine), champagne (Veuve 1999) $30 each + tip. Overall, if you're not paying, definitely go, but I question the overall value.

This is a really exceptional restaurant that compares with the very best of the great cities of Europe. The food, wine and service were all outstanding - the staff in particular were incredibly efficient, low key and discrete, without the overbearing cheerfulness (or pretentiousness) of many upscale US restaurants. The menu was imaginative, and perfectly prepared and given the quality, the pricing represents outstanding value. The ambiance is also wonderful - a beautiful converted barn, comfortably appointed, with large picture windows looking out on tastefully lit trees and shrubs to give an 'inside / outside' feeling. A talented pianist played standards from the Great American Songbook all night - again beautiful, and unobtrusive.

It is simply gorgeous, they have the best trained staff in New England, and the food ranges from brilliant to sublime. Add to that an unmatched wine list and I am sure I have found "Culinary Heaven!" Yes, it is expensive, but I maintain it is a great value. If you appreciate fine dining, make sure you get here before you die! Nobody does it better!

If you want a dining experience that is above all others then go to the White Barn Inn. The ambiance is very romantic, rustic New England, and quiet where the waitstaff cannot do enough for you. From the moment we arrived, we felt like royalty. My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary so we appreciated the quiet, while smelling the fireplace and looking at all is beauty. The food is exceptional.......you sort of wonder, "how does a chef get this good." The culinary creativity is outstanding, so bring an empty tummy! On the way out, my husband and I ran into a celebrity and thought, "it was worth the trip from CA!" White Barn Inn is romantic, food is delicious, and the staff is wonderful. It is worth the drive, or the flight!
