Since 1999, Chef Wiedmaier infuses his Belgian heritage into Marcel's elegant haute French flagship restaurant. Regularly topping the best-of-lists in the nation's capital, in 2011 and 2012, it was rated the top restaurant for food by Zagat as well as one of the top five restaurants for service.

really one of the best--my husband and I love to try the highly rated restaurants and sometimes wonder what the fuss is about. We did not wonder with this one! It was intimate, beautiful service, imaginative cuisine and the food was just to die for. Highest recommendation from the Kellers!

Marcel's provides an extraordinary dining experience that includes fantastic foods with excellently paired wines. While portions may seem small, they are perfectly sized for enjoying numerous dishes and sharing on a date. I believe we shared 10 different courses and every one was exquisite. We look forward to having dinner at Marcel's again.

Marcel's exceeded our expectations, a truly memorable meal with memorable service and a great table for our party. My requests were promptly executed, and the staff went beyond the call of duty in order to make the birthday guests feel very special. I would easily and without any hesitation recommend this restaurant. We have often enjoyed 'similar' restaurants in Belgium, Marcel's is better than any I have had the opportunity to enjoy there. My compliments to the Captain and his staff on the front end, and a resounding congratulations for the chef and kitchen staff at the other!

One of the best meals we've had in DC. It is especially welcome in the neighborhood of the Kennedy Center where dining options are few. Servers were very attentive and completed our meal before we had to leave for a performance without making us feel rushed. Pricey, but worth it.

The food was great, with a few exceptions (the hamachi dish was forgettable). The service at Marcel's was outstanding. We had the misfortune of dining during Graduation Weekend for one of the local universities, so the place was packed with proud parents and their children. Consequently, the restaurant was full of diners I wouldn't normally expect to see at Marcel's. Due to the business, one of my guests was repeatedly bumped by wait staff serving a large, challenging table. After only one word to our waiter, the bumps ended. I would recommend Marcel's to folks who are looking for a dine French meal. I wouldn't classify this as one of the best foodie restaurants I have ever been to. But, it was pleasant and my guests enjoyed it.

We have been to Marcel's before and were surprised that the menu had changed to an all tasting menu. It required an adjustment of thinking. The waiter could have been more helpful in explaining that the dishes are very ,very small- some are just 2 bites. The waiter should have just outright told us that 3 courses would be a tiny dinner- and I am not a big eater. Also the service was too slow. The pace needs to be picked up. That said, what I had was delicious.

An excellent and friendly place. The menu is very flexible allowing choice of any 3, 4, 5, or 7 of the offered courses. Everything we tried was wonderful. Both the bottled and (unusually) the by-the-glass wine lists are extensive and good. Indeed, most of the tables around us chose the by-the-glass option to enable better matches with the food.

The food quality, ambience and service were first rate. However, we were incredibly disappointed by the size of the servings. We had no idea that the portions would be less than half the size of a normal appetizer at any other fine dining establishment. A complete rip off. We felt robbed. I just reviewed the website again and there is no mention that the portions are "tasting size." I did notice that it does say "seared scallop," as in singular scallop, which is what was served. Ridiculous. Jack Bovay

Food was exceptional & perfect balance of "avant garde" & "haute". Loved that you didn't have to choose 1 from the 1st course, 1 from the 2d course, etc. - you could choose all 4 courses from the 1st course menu, for example. There were 4 of us dining and each of us found the meal terrific. We didn't have room for dessert, but they sounded wonderful. Two negative points: There seemed to be plenty of service staff, but we waited at least 15 minutes after being seated for someone to ask about cocktails, or even acknowledge our presence - not good. The "jackets required" rule either needs to be enforced or eliminated. Nothing annoys me more than a dress code where the exception is the rule. Please share these comments with the restaurant.

Washington is a hot spot for very good to great restaurants and Marcel's is one of the very best. Service was exceptional with special mention of our Capt. Jonathon. He was special. We had the 5 course with 2 wines, and all the flavors were distinct and courses did not have to follow any set pattern, so we three could order to our hearts delight and not impinge on others at the table. One small quibble: I ordered the chopped vegetable salad for lunch. The waitress offered salmon or shrimp with that - I chose shrimp. The salad arrived with four HUGE prawns! I was delighted; the salad was really terrific. But the bill came and those shrimp cost $16 extra, which meant that my salad was $30, WAY too much for a quick lunch salad. I wish the waitress had told me the price beforehand because I felt a little duped about the whole thing. Most restaurants will charge only a bit more for these extras like chicken, shrimp, salmon or beef. But $16 is another lunch entree price on top of what I got. Anyway, it was a very good salad and I'd definitely go back to BLT Steak. Best, Jill Hudson Neal Bridal Editor, Washingtonian M

The food was excellent, but the portions were appetizer sized. The new menu allows you to select as many courses as you want, as varying prices, but it wasn't clearly explained to us that what we assumed would be considered our entree of bison tenderloin would be a half dozen pieces of meat, each the size of a quarter and a half-inch thick. The boudin blanc used to be a full-sized (6-inch) sausage; the new portion is now about 2 inches long. While the restaurant still offers free limo transportation to the Kennedy Center, we may have to forgo eating there unless we want to spend significantly more for a meal by ordering more courses.

I found the service to be superb in the beginning. However, I was disappointed after ordering the dessert. Not so much the dessert itself (it was great btw) but in the service. It took about an hour for the dessert to come out. That would have been fine except that I saw at least 5 of the same kind being given to parties that had come after I did. I was somewhat disappointed after finally getting my dessert by then. Other than that, it was what one would expect from fine dining I suppose.
