John Bentley's is the favorite spot for several in the family. The only tricky thing is deciding between the cozy cottage in Woodside and the new place in Redwood City. Both are awesome!

Seasonal food perfectly prepared, in original presentations that all worked beautifully, from salads to desserts. I will certainly go back, and take my friends. A really enjoyable experience all around, worth the money.

John Bentley consistently puts out incredible food which is worthy of any high priced San Francisco restaurant. The menu is wide ranging to suite many tastes and changes frequently. His soups are a delight and his daily specials are always top notch. This place is worth the time to drive down from the City to try a great meal at reasonable prices.

This was our first experience at John Bentley's. While the service was informal (friendly), our server, Danielle was amazing. She was charming, attentive' and could answer detail questions about the food, even to the point of comparing those details with other restaurants' preparations. I cannot remember having a better server anywhere. We will be back and ask to be seated at her table. I had the Hanger Steak. It could be cut with a fork and was sauced beautifully. The Caesar Salad used Asiago instead of Parmesan and was excellent.

Our experience was fantastic, as usual. The service was top-notch; everyone from the hostess to the waiter to the chef and pastry chef spoiled us and were attentive to our needs and dietary restrictions. I highly recommend this restaurant both for food creativity, staff knowledge, attention to detail, customer care, and overall satisfaction. My wife and I left extremely happy and thankful we chose John Bentley's for our anniversary dinner.

Wow! Their prices for a neighborhood restaurant were worse than some San Francisco prices! We paid $8.50 each for a normal glass of wine. But the "insult" was paying $20 each for a small 3/4 cup of squash with ravioli/spaghetti sauce that was the smallest amount of food we have ever been served...no decoration, no vegetables, nothing! We felt insulted because we felt all they wanted us for was "profit." The only thing that saved our experience was our lovely waitress Amanda. We were offered a free dessert each which eased some of the pain. We would never consider going back there again. There are too many other great, less expensive neighborhood restaurants with nice ambiances out there.

I have eaten at John Bentley's in Woodside several times for dinner, and the fare was better executed there. While the food was quite good, my crab-cake sandwich was a bit heavy/soft. The napkins, however, smelled like mold, and I'm not sure why. That was a bit unappetizing. Overall, I believe in John Bentley's, and chalk up these flaws to an aberration. I was there for a business lunch, and the group was pleased overall.

Very good choice for business dinner in all regards. Ahi sashimi appetizer was quite good, as was the mache salad with pear. Waiter recommended a nice wine to go with the meal. I shall return. Client executive recommended the restaurant and he enjoyed it as well.

This is an excellent restaurant. I am surprised that it does not attract a younger crowd at lunch. I suppose it is its location--not quite close enough to the foodies. My firm has had its Holiday luncheon there on three occasions, and the service and food have been exceptional every time. The upstairs room is great for functions. I am comparing JB's to all the restaurants at which I've eaten. So, that is some very tough company. Realistically, if JB's was in a comparable suburb of even places like NY, LA or Boston, it would be the best place in town.

I have been to J. Bentley's in Woodside for dinner and have always had a wonderful time. The Redwood City location, though not out in the woods, is geographically more conducive to business lunches or when time and distance are critical. I took a dear friend of mine to lunch there. She is an older Danish woman who grew up in a family that practiced very formal dining. She loves the informality of California, obviously, but was very impressed with the quiet dignity that J.Bentley's works hard to maintain. The food met our expectations as well- more than a sandwich but not dinner-sized.

Very enjoyable. Friendly staff who were well-versed with both the food menu as well as the bar (in my experience, that's hard to come by). There wasn't a bad thing in the lot that we ordered, and we ordered a fair amount of food! I plan on trying to recreate some of the menu items myself in my kitchen, they were so good (I ordered the specials for the day--mussels steamed in lime-infused coconut broth and a really yummy panko-breaded sea bass with yellow bell pepper-citrus vinagrette). In my book, wanting to recreate meals is a sure sign of a winner; they should make those permanent fixtures on the menu! Decent wine by the glass menu, also (another rarity today). I would highly recommend this place for anyone wanting a great meal.

I am a frequent customer. This is the first time I didn't get anywhere near the right experience: I didn't get the table I requested (although the one next to it was available), I was put at a table next to the kitchen entrance with service staff bumping into our table all throughout our meal, and was generally ignored. Very disappointing experience. Please don't do this to me again.
