My scallops came out cold. They were then reheated and as such, were overcooked when I finally got to eat them. The server seemed to be disinterested and busy, (almost understandable as the restaurant was packed on a Saturday night) However, given the lack of interest I don’t know if I will be able to take people to a celebration dinner again OceanAire. (This is a little sad, as Smith and Wollensky / Capital Grill were getting boring) Best, Jay E. Gazlay 202.262.7284

The seafood was simply prepared so the excellent quality of each offering shone through--from raw oysters to gourmet appetizers to unique fish. The waiter was very knowledgeable and the wine pours were generous.

Our reservation was for 8:30 and we weren't seated till 9:15. Every time we would ask the Host he would just tell to wait in the bar. We would have been forgotten if it wasn't for the nice waitress in the bar who went and made him seat us. When ordering, you were out of our 1st 3 appetizer choices. The salad was amazing. But i had the arctic char and it was only so-so. Our waiter was very nice, but having to wait 45 minutes when you have a reservation is very unacceptable. I have been to Oceanaire in Dallas and really liked it, so i was extremely disappointed after this experience.

  • We were less impressed with
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 4/3/2008
We were less impressed with Oceanaire on this visit. When we checked in, we were told they'd need five, maybe ten minutes to prepare our table. Fine, we said, we'll be in the bar. Twenty minutes later, we went back and the visibly surprised host said, "Oh! Let me check on your table. Oh yes, it's ready." Clearly, we had been forgotten. We noticed the prices on the menu had skyrocketed, and while the service was attentive, we were guided by our server to the three most expensive entrees, one of which was $119. The food was good, but overall Oceanaire felt more like a chain restaurant than it did an independent restaurant. It probably wouldn't be our first choice next time.

It was however one of the worst nights I have experienced regarding my reservation. The reservation was for 7:30, however, we were not seated until 8:20 - 40 min late. I truly believe that if I had not known the Maitre d' (he was doing a great job considering the circumtances) the wait would have been much longer. I overheard several customers upset and and finally leave the resturant to eat somewhere else.

My group and I thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Oceanaire. Oceanaire is known for its crab cakes, and UNFORTUNATELY on this visit they could not be rated as the best crab cakes in the Washington-Metro Area. The crab cakes had way too much filling, instead of it having the abundance of crab meat that everyone loves. Get back to your traditional crab cake recipe, and you will find me as a regular at Oceanaire! The service was great, and our waiter, Adrian, went above the call of duty to please us. All of Adrian's suggestions were right on point. A big THANK YOU to Adrian for making my Mom's birthday a memorable one!!

Been to the other oceanair's and expected another terrific meal and time. What a disappointment. I had to brush off crumbs and clean the table myself. Even when they saw me doing this they let ME continue. The waiter told us AFTER dinner the specific vodka requested was substituted because they did not have what we ordered. He wanted to know if we noticed the difference. Of course we did but how wrong and unprofessional is that! Had a 9pm rez and was told at 10:25 if we wanted anything else cause the kitchen was closing soon. Sorry to impose on their schedule. Had better time and service at places where they hand you food through a window and your still in your car.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 3/29/2008
The shrimp cocktail was great, but the shrimp could have been cleaned better. Same for my wife's scallops. She is very particular; said there was sand on them, and they were a bit salty. The crab cake appetizer was outstanding. I asked for my salmon medium well (cooked through), but at best it was medium. I liked the seasoning. The scalloped potatoes were disappointing, except for the crusty top. They were prepared differently than I've had them before, and seemed a bit undercooked. There was about twice the amount needed for two people, ok for party of four. The asparagus was good. The fruit sorbet desert was very good. In general, the restaurant is over-priced for the quality of food we experienced.

One of my favorite spots in D.C. I grew up on the coast and am very picky about my seafood--not a fan of Kinkead's for example. Oceanaire is simple, fresh and delicious. Oysters are excellent, with a lot of variety. Fish dishes are prepare simply, with emphasis on quality ingredients. My only complaint is that the restaurant is loud, especially on weekends. If you want a quiet, cozy, meal, this is probably not the place. But, if you want good, quality seafood that is not fussed over, Oceanaire is great.

We always chose Oceanaire when we want excellent quality seafood. It is also our birthday celebration choice. This year I was disappointed that my husband wasn't served the flaming dessert although I mentioned in my reservation that it was his b'day. Didn't want to ask for it that night as that would have eliminated the surprise element but I know he always enjoys that. Other than that the food did not dissapoint. Juanita

We dine at the Oceanaire Seafood Room - DC frequently because the food is consistently top notch; well presented, excellently prepared and extremely delicious. We most appreciate the friendly, yet extremely professional atmosphere. The wine list is extremely good with a broad variety of domestic and imported wines. The wait staff is very very knowledgeable on the menu items and the wine list. The wine manager does a great job of maintaining a high quality wine list with enough changes to make coming back to try new wine choices a necessity. Oceanaire is the place to go, if you're looking for a excellent dining experience, as opposed to finding a place to "eat out"! It's a great place.

If you love fish, this is the place for you! They have so many varieties to choose from, and will prepare it any way you like it. (The menu doesn't say this - just ask.) Our waiter was very professional and made helpful suggestions. Everything was excellent. Try the caviar service for a splurge. The desserts are large enough for two, as our waiter thoughtfully pointed out. Great key lime pie. Also, very nicely appointed rest rooms. We went to Oceanaire because we had a gift certificate, but would definitly go back on our own.

Service Staff are well trained and attenative, most remembering your name and habits, a plus. If you give a customer a 5 p.m. reservation, you should be open and prepared to greet the customer before that time. Other than that our first experience was very pleasant.
