  • Too many flies in the restaurant

Too many flies in the restaurant which seriously affected our appetite - a few flies were "swimming" in our wine and a few "landed" on our food... Seafood were not fresh... Restaurant manager said they have done their best and told us this it is normal to have so many flies around because we were dinning at a winery after all.

Perhaps one of the finest lunches that I have had in Canada. The food was superb, the wine amazing, the ambiance delightful, the service very good and even the weather cooperated. We were there with visitors from the UK and quite frankly they were blown away, in spite of being pretty savvy diners themselves. My second visit to Peller Estates for lunch and certainly not my last - after all the reason that there was a second visit was the first one. It isn't inexpensive but for sheer quality of dining experience it was a total bargain. See you soon!

We have been there before..We previously members of the wine club and received wine by the month. The food looked better than it tasted. It all lacked some sparkle or spices..seasoning.. I had the salmon salad..needed some punch. The beef was very tender. The chocolate cake looked fabulous..but tasted flat-dry-cardboardy.. My husband had the same reaction. The flies coming in every time they opened the door to the terrace was annoying but unpreventable. Setting was beautiful..Maybe outside the flies would have been less of an issue. I would go back..but I would not recommend it for the food at present.

  • I had very high expectations
    MickeyVIP
    Dined on 8/2/2008
I had very high expectations of The Peller Estates Winery Restaurant, given previous experiences with other winery restaurants, and the reputation of executive chef Jason Parsons. Overall, the experience was just ok. The menu was relatively new, and several of the selections were poorly thought out. It was as though little thought was given to the overall flow of the meal. Many of the flavours were so dramatically different from each other that they simply didn't harmonize well. With a single notable exception, the wine pairings didn't work well with the food. The service was outstanding, but great service can't compensate for mediocre food. Perhaps I started out with unreasonable expectations, but I don't think so.

I had ordered the Signature Tasting Menu and have one small concern. One of my dishes (the blue cheese brulee) arrived at the table before the dish prior to it on the menu (pre sale lamb) had been delivered. The waiter took the brulee back, but I suspect that the same one was brought back out to me later as the plate and food were barely warm. I would have expected more of a restaurant of this caliber. Despite that, the food was wonderful and overall the evening was a great experience.

What a wonderful find. Gets you away from the very commercial Niagara Falls mundane food offerings. Tasting menu very well executed. The wine pairings are highly recommended to complete the experience. But what really sealed the deal on a wonderful event was the absolute professional/competent service provided.

We love your restaurant for lunch before the festival theatre matinees. We've been there several times in recent years, and plan to continue. The mediocre food rating was for something unusual on our last visit: the lamb sirloin I ordered was tough, not a good cut at all. Also the waiter did not ask about the degree of doneness preferred. The lamb was served rare, and although rare is fine (I prefer medium rare, actually) red meat must be top class to be served rare.

I had done a good bit of research as to where to eat in the niagara falls & Niagara on the lake on our day trip from Toronto and I had very high expectations of Peller Estate and was afraid that there wasn't any possibility that it could live up to my expectation but in fact it surpassed them. The food, wine, setting, service, ambiance, value were outstanding and worth the drive from Toronto. Lunch of a life time and super memories.

While the falls in itself is, of course, magnificent - a visit to Pellery Winery is a true testament that there is more to Niagara than just the typical tourist attractions. Service was superb and the prix fixe menu can't be beat with the outstanding food and excellent wine to accompany each entree. We traveled with our 2-year old and they more than accommodating to her needs while most places who may not even be as classy as Pellery may have frowned on having a child in such a pristine restaurant. I highly recommend Pellery Wine restaurant. It is a true gem that is worth discovering!

Thank you for a fine dining experience. The food was very good and the ambience & view breathtaking! The only suggestion I would give is to offer more vegetables with the meat or fish. In my opinion, the main course should offer a fine balance of protein and vegetables. Thank you for offering me a forum to articulate my experience. It was wonderful! We will definitely come again!

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

Generally enjoyed the dining experience with a couple of exceptions. Pesky flies do detract from fully enjoying the dining experience. Menu should offer more basics, for example, a stand alone salad would have been nice to see on the menu. Entrees seemed almost a bit too specialized. Again, a standard chicken dish would have been nice.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

Greeting and service were fine, though server seemed overextended. Prix fix is a good value as is the optional wine tasting pairing. Appetizers of soup and watermelon/salmon salad was excellent, as was the main course of lamb sirloin, beautifully presented. However, as the chef has a propensity to cook red meats bleu rare, the server should ask how the guest would like it done to avoid having to send it back for re-cooking. The pastry chef however, has no reason to be proud of the raspberry tart. Stodgy filling and heavy, underbaked, tasteless crust, ridiculously tiny scoop of accompanying ice cream. I would return to Pellar...this was not our first visit....however, next time I would send such a dessert back to the kitchen.

Not happy. I made reservations online for four (4) people at 8:30. After driving nearly four hours we were looking forward to a fine dining experience but when we arrived we were told that the reservation I made was for two people and they did not have a table for us. After waiting 40 minutes they finally set a table outside on the patio. The next day while continuing our vacation I found the reservation printout I made and guess what... it was for 4 people.

Very accommodating to my dietary requests. Lovely ambiance, if a little pretentious, and knowledgeable server. The appetizers and main were good the dessert was not: a "nori" roll of apples, strawberry pear and pepper, in a glutenous wonton-type wrapper, too hard to cut and odd tasting "sauce".

This is a restaurant fit for tourists in the Niagara region. I was especially disgruntled by the microsopic portions of lobster carpaccio given its price on the menu. The flounder was dry and did not taste fresh although the accompaniments and plate were nice. The main thing going for the restaurant is the scenery. I would not return.

The experience at the winery was fabulous, I'm still raving about it to others days later. We started our adventure at the wine bar where the staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. We then proceeded to the restaurant where we were able to sit outside along the vines, what a beautiful day and experience. The food and wine pairings were out of this world, we really enjoyed it. After lunch we picked up a few bottles in the shop before heading home. The only thing we did not take part in was the tour of the winery which we will have to save for our next visit. I would recommend this experience to anyone. Special kudos to our server Lu, she was outstanding. Anna-Maria de Mello
