Luna Park is in the regular rotation of restaurants my friends and I frequent. The food is great, the price perfect and the cherries are devine - although it would be great if they gave you more than one in their Maker's Manhattan. A bit loud, if you're going for romance ask for a booth in the back. I've only been for dinner.

I first came to Luna Park four or five years ago. I loved it, but for one reason or another didn't manage to make it back until this week. It was every bit as good as I remembered! My dining partners and I had a great time.

Decent food at reasonable prices. I enjoyed the sea bass and the mac n' cheese. My friend's free range chicken left him hungry. Very noisy and crowded. We would have stayed for dessert and another drink, but could barely hear each other speak. Plus the space was tight and not the most comfortable. The $1 service charge per person for employee health care should be added after the actual bill is calculated and taxed. It should not be included before subtotal and tax...

    OpenTable Diner Since 2005

This was the 2nd time in a month that I'd been to Luna Park with a party of 4. It was not as good an experience as the 1st time. The 1st time was great on all fronts and everyone in the party said they wanted to go back again; this time not as much care was taken with either the food or the service. I had to drop the rest of my party off to find a parking spot (very hard in that neighborhood at that time of day) and the hostess didn't want to seat them until I got there. She eventually agreed to do it, but that started things off on the wrong foot. I had the breaded pork cutlet and my wife had the oven roasted seabass. Both were slightly dry and overcooked, but good otherwise. With the choices available in SF, I'm not in a hurry to go back

  • Our party did not all arrive
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007VIP
    Dined on 3/21/2008
Our party did not all arrive at once, and the hostess initially enforced the restaurant's general rule about not seating a party until everyone was there. Fine, but when we moved to the crowded bar, she made us move to the other end of the bar, as if we were in the way. Meanwhile there were at least a dozen empty tables. Finally she got wise and seated us at a table. From that point on the evening went well. The food was tasty, and when one of our party's dinners was not served at the same time as the other three, the waiter brought (without being asked) a green salad on the house so that we could all start eating without being rude. Good call. And the blood orange mojitos were excellent.

  • Overall, I enjoyed my experience
    OpenTable Diner Since 2004
    Dined on 3/19/2008
Overall, I enjoyed my experience at Luna Park. The highlight of the meal was the S'mores dessert. That was delicious and I really enjoyed the homemade graham crackers. The low light of the evening was the ahi tuna nicoise salad. I was really looking forward to that meal, but when it arrived, there was barely any ahi on it, and the salad was very very bland. I didn't enjoy eating it at all and I've had my fair share of tasty nicoise salads elsehwhere. HUGE disappointment with this salad. I think it needs a light, creamy vinaigrette to tie it all together and to give it some flavor, which it seriously lacked, despite the ingredients.

We got to sit toward the back, alongside the kitchen. While I had always wanted to sit in one of those romantic booths, the downside is the smell of the kitchen mats, or something that was out in the hallway. It was a sour scent, like mildew or slightly old milk. Also the table at the booth was really wobbly. However, the food was excellent as always, and service good. My friends did mention they don't drink (alchohol) but would have tried something else had the option been offered. Virgin mojito, perhaps? Since we were in the back the restaurant noise was almost nil. I come to Luna Park a lot and I love the food, it is consistently good. I always have a good time, so it is one of my old comfy dining options in SF.

The only thing I did not like was the $1 per plate (ENVIRONMENTAL??? FEE....otherwise known as a TAX). It annoyed me...I would have been happy to pay the extra dollor on the price of the meal I ordered...but I was not given a chance to make that choice. I will hestitate to take others there because of the involuntary TAX!!!!

we had a reservation for 2 and were asked to wait 20 mins past reservation time.... another couple came in 15 mins after us and they were immediately given one of the open booths and then we were finally given a tiny table for 2 up beside the door (brr) when we would have much preferred the booth ...... it just seemed a misstep for the restaurant under the circumstances. Food was terrific! Waiter was nice.

It is a hot spot! We ended up at a table in the corner, but it wasn't terrible, just less than preferred--especially when we had a reservation and had to wait 15 minutes beyond the set time. Food was very good, a little pricey. Restaurant is very loud.

Made a group reservation for my birthday but didn't get seated until a good 45 minutes to an hour later. No place at the bar either, so we stood in the middle mostly ignored. Never mind that one person in my part was very pregnant. You think they would have at least thought to accommodate us sooner given that we'd made a reservation. We enjoyed the food though. It was loud, but then again we were a group too so we might have contributed to the noise.

The food here is great..always a hit, but the hosts always have attitude and treat you like you owe them something. I've been there numerous times and it's the same story with the hosts every time. The bartenders on the other hand are always generous with the drinks. Last I was there the ceiling was leeking and drops of water kept hitting our table. We kept moving our plates to dodge the water drops.

I've eaten here a couple times. The food is good, not great, but good and moderately priced. Be warned -- it gets packed. On my first visit, we had a reservation and probably waited an hour and half past our reservation time before we were seated. The manager did offer us a free cheese fondue. I really only went back again because it was the chosen celebration spot for a friend's birthday. I wouldn't seek it out again, there are too many other places and I don't think it really stands out.
