The view of the Bay and GG Bridge from the Paragon deck cannot be beat on a sunny day. The food was much better than I remember...great salads. The service was marginal - we had to ask multiple times for water, the server leaned across one guest in the middle of one of our conservations to give something to another guest and there were no space constraints (she could have walked a few steps around the table), she forgot about picking up our payment... I didn't see the same issues with other servers, so maybe ours was having a bad day.

Very nice in the large room that includes the bar, but a few minor annoyances: The room we were in needs a little work as it has a bit of the banquet/meeting room feel to it, with chipped paint onthe tables, chairs lined up along the wall, etc. Windows needed cleaning in both rooms. There were two hostesses, one of which came off pretty clueless and unprofessional. A little extra polish would make the place really stand out.

I brought my parents and mother-in-law here after my grad school graduation at Berkeley, and we all loved it! I had had drinks and appetizers in the bar area many times and have had good experiences, and I was very pleased with the restaurant side of the establishment as well. The food was ver good and our waitress was very pleasant and friendly -- thank you!!

  • The Paragon in the Claremont
    OpenTable Diner Since 2004

The Paragon in the Claremont Spa is one of those great places that people probably don't think about for lunch, but its a great place with an incredible view and great comfort food. All the Paragon's are not about "Fine" food, but rather about great "comfort" food. Everything on the menu is simple, but very tasty and well executed. My favorites are Meat Loaf and their pork chops. You absolutely can't beat the view, when there is no fog. Always bring a warm sweater if you are going to sit outside... Great place, Great View, all at a great price!

    Dined on 5/11/2008
We have been to the Paragon at the Claremont several times and this was not a good experience. It was a mother's day reservation and we had to wait 20 minutes until we were served. We were seated in the bar area. Service was slow and spotty and the food was not very good. A very dissappointing experience on Mother's Day. I'm not planning to return there anytime soon and I live within walking distance.

Their fish tacos were bland and the fish didn't look fresh at all. Their meat loaf was also less to be desired, though we enjoyed the bread pudding and the fries! The place is great to hang out for drinks maybe because of the scenery and the ambiance, but NOT for the food!

Place was empty yet they sat another person right next to us. Chicken sandwich was terrible--the chicken seemed like it wasn't even cooked all the way. Very disapointing! I had hoped for a terrific dining experience and I almost would have preferred McDonalds to this place!

The food was surprisingly bad for the status of the resort as a whole. The salmon was cooked well but the brussel sprouts and some kind of potato underneath were inedible. The steak was not seasoned. The cheese plate was wimpy and the other dishes were not memorable. The staff was almost inaccessible on the patio and too busy to serve the guests. I brought clients and was embarrassed by the food, it rated & tasted like mediocre bar food at best.

The dinner was really good and our waiter was excellent. The only problem was that wehn we checked in we were told we couldn't be seated for 10 minutes. We told the maitre'de that we would be in the bar and he never came to get us. We only realized they were ready to seat because they started seating other people 20 minutes later. We had to go back to the front and ask to be seated again.

Easter lunch/brunch- very good! 2 of us shared many different appetizers, entrees, desserts, etc. Everything was great- especially the fish tacos. Great drink menu as well- and of course the outdoor view was spectacular. Service was good too- waitress was very friendly. Would recommend to others.

Weekends, they have live jazz that's great as well. They have small lounge area to enjoy music an drinks. Evenings are great to watch beautiful sunsets too!
