what this place has going for it is its location (although the view is no longer wonderful because of the construction going on in the plaza). the food was only so-so, with one of egg dishes completely cold when it arrived. service was pleasant, but couldn't make up for the lack of attention in the kitchen.

The setting was everything that one would expect with dining at the Metropolitan before an opera. What was pleasantly surprising was the quality and presentation of the food coupled with the friendly and professional staff. A specific note of appreciation goes out to our waiter, Patrick, last Thursday evening. The meals are designed for quick preparation, given the limited time for seating (earliest in 6 pm) and the 8 pm curtain. The menu emphasis is on seafood, which can be prepared quickly. The appetizers are also geared to easy preparation. None of this is to take away from the food, however. The meal would be excellent in any expensive New York restaurant. Finish with a brandy, knowing you are only 2 minutes from your seats!

For the price, the food is only fair. The appetizer and desserts were better than the main courses. The service is excellent. It is a nice special-occasion place, but the way to "work it" would be to eat a light supper elsewhere and reserve a table for a snack or dessert between acts.

The staff were all friendly and accomodating. They knew how to let us out on time because, apparently, they knew what we were there for (opera). We loved the salmon and the crab cake.

Linked to the opera and dessert at intermission, it was a very special family evening. The staff was attentive and accomodating as we were late for our reservation. Our meal and wine was perfect.

Very over-priced for the quality of the actual food, this restaurant is banking on the location and access to shows.

It was my first time eating at the Grand Tier Restaurant and I was totally impressed and surprised. Grand Tier can match any of the top restaurants in New York and, as someone who is from Europe and had travelled the world extensively, I might add the world.

The food is generally excellent (without trying to be special); yet the prices never seem justified (exept it's THE MET) ... ambiance is of course pleasant ... one is always glad to have dined here (and not just for the convenience of being inside the opera house) ... So the Grand Tier accomplishes what it is intended to accomplish ... and it can't, of course, manage what the MODERN does at MOMA ... there's no time.

The best features by far were the service and the convenience for opera ticket-holders. The menu was somewhat limited and the food, though very tasty, seemed overpriced. Overall, a good experience.

I attend once a year, every year. Please change the menu more often. The crab cakes have been the same the last two years. The atmosphere is outstanding, as was our waiter. The guy we dealt with on the phone to set the reservations was difficult. I didn't check my coat this year because last year it was a total mess getting it after the opera. You probably want to focus on the sexy parts of the restaurant experience, like the wine list or the decor. But my experience last year of trying to get my coat back was almost enough for our group to not go to The Grand Tier this year. Please fix it (if you haven't already).

It's a shame you can only eat here if you have a ticket for the performance that evening, otherwise, I'd be inclined to come more often. We had our starters (appetizers) and mains (entrees) prior to the performance and our desserts and coffees at the interval. Perfect. You do have to order and pay for any interval requirements as you leave to go to the performance, so you have to know what you will want, but it worked perfectly for us The food itself? Delicious. All of us were happy. That takes some doing.

Service here was totally outstanding. Two special needs diners, and we were accommodated with perfection. We had requested one chair with arms on Open Table, and there it was, and the host pointed it out to us! This is well worth the visit and convenience when going to the opera.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008

The food was astonishingly bad...nearly airline level of quality. Despite the fact that the restaurant was nearly empty-- maybe 20 percent of tables filled -- the soup was delivered cool; the shrimp was obviously thawed and had been sitting in water, making it mushy. Our server seemed to be trying, but everyone else -- busboys, the people who brought the food to our table from the kitchen -- were uninterested in what they were doing. My husband and I were brought our appetizers and entrees at different times from each other.

The food was very nice but lacked interesting ingredients. For instance, the salad was small, one variety of greens with shaved parmesan dressing the top. The portions are extremely small which had my dinner partner and I diving into the bread basket more that we wanted to. The ambiance is nice, but for the steep prices, I doubt that I'd spring for that kind of bill, again, considering that there are so many good restaurants in the Lincoln Center area to try.
