A word from La Masseria
La Masseria Restaurant is inspired from ancient fortified farmhouses that in the Puglia Region of Italy are called “Masseria”. Executive Chef/Co-Owner, Pino Coladonato, grew up on a Farm in Puglia. He was forced to eat whatever was available but soon was tired of bean puree and decided to take matters into his own hands, creating new ways to use the same few ingredients. Now, with limitless ingredients to choose from, fava beans, chickpeas and lentils are still a core element in many of his entrees. Interior Designer Libby Langdon has created a warm, inviting dining atmosphere. Rustic and relaxed, with plenty of old world charm. Oversized iron sconces custom made from antique wrought iron gates punctuate the walls, and artful displays of antique farm tools mixed with various authentic Italian photographs all add to the farmhouse appeal. The 250-bottle wine list encompasses all regions of Italy with few of the best American and the rest of the world.

The wine list was notable and extensive, but also very expensive. There were almost no wines under $50 and few under $75. The home made fresh pasta was outstanding and the fish was done perfectly. The fried zucchini appetizer was limp and overcooked.

Tucked on 48th Street in the heart of the Theater District, this Italian has a great menu, service and ambience. It's bright and airy throughout the restaurant with plenty of natural light. Book reservations through Open Table to ensure a table especially at peak show times. Ron K.

Totally surprised to find such an enjoyable place in Times Square. I was there with some out of town guests who picked La Massaria; initially I tried to talk them out of Times Square but was glad we stayed. The wait staff was immediately attentive, helpful and courteous. They explained everything several times and made sure that everyone was full satisfied. Also surprising was the prciing, which was quite favorable given the location and quality of good. It's a real gem.

What a great little spot. With a nouveau rustic atmosphere, this place delivers on authentic Italian dishes. We had the burrata mozzarella direct from Italy, and amazingly tasty mushroom risotto. That paired with the legion of wine options, we had quite an evening. We'll definitely be back. (Not something we often say in NYC - with so many restaurants so deserving of our time!) Did we mention impeccable service?

I've been to restaurants where noise has been a factor but taking my parents to this restaurant was a mistake. From the begining, with the limited menu which does not specify that the "soup" is ice cold to the ridiculously small portions served. At some point I had requested for the regular menu to make things better but was quickly dicouraged by the service which was not all attentive, feeling like we had to rush to speak to them or make a choice as far as wine or food. Felt very unprofessional and impersonal. I absolutely disliked the automatic gratuity included which to me is an insult sort of reaching into my pocket assuming I was satisfied with the service.I manage the Michelangelo hotel close by and will not send my guests there again.

    Dined on 7/6/2008
Although our overall experience was favorable, we were disappointed that others arriving ahead of us after theatre were seated in prime tables even though they had no reservations. We did have a reservation and expressly requested a table in a corner or along the wall, never in the center of the room. We were first taken to a table in the center of the room but when I complained and mentioned our request, we were offered to wait at the bar until a suitable table opened up. This restaurant needs to pay attention to requests made on reservations and not give walk-ins preference over those with reservations.

Great Italian food in an authentic, intimate feeling atmosphere. Our server was very knowledgeable and quite personable. Service was very efficient, perfect for before a Broadway show. The menu selections were very nice for entrees, but a little limited/ pricey for appetizers. The wine list was diverse and had a number of reasonably priced choices, although organized a bit oddly. The location can't be beat for an upscale, but fairly priced, pre-show dinner.

A welcome "find" in the theater district! The food was very good, service efficient and professional. Two suggestions: they could stock black tea rather than only herbal - serving cammomile to someone who requests "tea" is a bit presumptuous. Busboys or food servers should know how to place coffee cups (handle to right side) - not to be picky but it is a pet peeve of mine and quite in contrast to the rest of the service. The ambiance and whole experience was not the rushed atmosphere of many of the pre-theater dining spots in the area. Both of us will return.
