A word from Aperitivo Bistro
Piattini comes to downtown Schenectady. Italian for "small plates", Aperitivo Bistro serves the ultimate Piattini selections - from the traditional fried calamari to stuffed artichoke hearts and sushi. Other selections include specialty pizzas, fabulous pasta dishes and larger plate selections called “Piatti”. Piattini are meant to be shared along with a glass of wine or cup of espresso. The decor is chic metropolitan, with exposed brick and creative use of metals.

Very crowded and the waitress lost track of us. We got very tired of waiting for her attention, and ended up leaving only a 15% tip and cancelling one entree because she was so inattentive. It ruined the experience, our first with this restaurant.

On a recent Saturday my husband and another couple visted the restuarant. The atmosphere was nice; tall cielings, exposed brick, great lighting. The menu looked wonderful too! The party took sometime to order as we wanted one of everything. When the food arrived it looked great. Unfortuanately, upon tasting it was just OK. My fresh mozz roulade was prepared days a head and tasted like it. The portobello mushroom appetizer was tasteless. The soup was ok. The main meals faired the same way. Friemd order the nucci's and they were not homemade. Duo tournades were cooked wonderfully, yet small portion. The chicken scarp. was fried in batter and slightly greasy. Wine list was great! We will not return as their are so many other restaurants.

Don't be fooled by the small-plate ads ... you can get a full dinner here that you won't want to share! Oh, sure, you can go app, but the entree options are plenty and fulfilling.

The only drawback of this place is that it is VERY noisy. Lots of people and lots of hard surfaces for all the noise to bounce off of. The service was excellent and the food was good. While it was a nice dinner, we'll probably not return because of the noise level. We litterally had to yell across the table to hear each other.

My friend and I booked through your site and it was our first time at Aperitivo's. We almost missed our show we were having such a great time and the food was outstanding, we totally forgot all about time! Our server, Johnny was just wonderful, attentive, personable and answered all our questions without being condescending. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves equisite food and a beautiful hip atmosphere. Also, the Appletini's were the best I have ever had, not too sweet, not too tart, just right. Cudos to the bartender. I felt like I was in a bistro in New York City without the high NYC prices! If I could give it 10 stars, I would!

Good, but the not all tapas were good value for money. One spring roll cut in two pieces is $7, for example. Creative menu, however, and nice range of choices that accommodate both conservative and adventurous palates.

Is part of the renasance of resturants in downtown Schenectady. Tapas style as well as more tradtional Italian fare. Don't expect "huge" portions in Tapas style, but expect to experience a wide range in experiences. Always liked to select several items and try alot of different things. Pizza is thin crust, but very tasty, and doesn't leave you feeling like its expanding in your gut. Bar was exceptional in range as well as quantity. Service was 5 star.

Very nice atmosphere. Excellent location (we came after seeing a movie at the cinema down the street). Very happy to see another nice restaurant in Downtown. Perfect portion size (not gargantuan like many restaurants). Attentive server, even though she was busy. Although we didn't eat there, we loved the tables on the sidewalk. Very European. Food was above average, but not excellent. (I'm afraid this restaurant suffered in comparison to Wine Down, where we ate the Saturday before. Perhaps not fair to compare, but, then again, they might want to know about their competition!) We had entrees, and maybe a meal of just appetizers (like tapas) might have been better. Good luck and thanks again for locating in Downtown Schenectady!!

i was underwhelmed...salad way too $ for what i got. my lobster/pasta was too salty. my hubby's pork chops were overcooked. we were seated at a tiny table, practically on the next couple's lap. i can understand if it's busy but it wasn't the whole time we were there. we made it obvious to the host that the table wasn't suitable but nothing was done. i let the server know i wanted the souffle when i ordered but it still took forever & tasted like a burnt brownie. however, the bread & 3 toppings were awesome.

  • Ten minutes after my meal
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 6/16/2008
Ten minutes after my meal was served my husband was told the restaurant didn't have the ingredients for his order (which was on the specials menu we were handed upon arrival). A full 25 minutes after my meal was served, he was brought a plate of food which was not very good. Our meal was free because of this huge snafu. We appreciated this, but it didn't really make up for a spoiled birthday dinner. Our waitress was good and the food that I had was good. But overall, the experience was not one we'd care to repeat. I was especially disappointed as I had selected the restaurant for this special evening based on an excellent meal I'd had there a few weeks ago.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 6/7/2008
We ordered two appetizers and a one pizza (special order...goat cheese only). Usually the appetizers arrive first and then the pizza. This time the pizza came out first and had mozzarella and goat cheese. When asked about the appetizers we were told that the pizza was already done. We returned it for a goat cheese only. The appetizers arrived then and fairly quickly after the correct pizza. Since it wasn't crowded, a little more attention to the order of the food and less rush would have been nice. Everyone was very attentive to the mistake and corrected it with utmost graciousness...as always.

Though I wouldn't necessarily go crazy for the place...it is simply the best that Schenectady has to offer. I thoroughly enjoy dining there every time I go out, and have never had any trouble at all. Some times the food it hit-or-miss, but when they "hit", the food is fantastic! Highly recommended!

    Dined on 5/8/2008
We ate a meal at Aperitivo before a show at Proctor's, and the staff was very good about getting us out on time for the show. I've eaten there twice so far, -- the food is on the pricey side, but unique and tasty. The menu is split between tapas/appetizers and full-size meals. The appetizers include a number of sushi-inspired dishes, some traditional items like Calamari (with a sweet orange sauce), and a variety of other choices. The focus for the meals is on pasta and other Italian dishes, but the menu is faily eclectic. It's a fun place to eat, and the appetizer format encourages sharing. Plan on spending $30-40 per person on food. The wine list is long, and the desserts are good as well.

The breads in the bread basket were boring but the spreads that came with them were good. The main entrees were small in portion and not flavorful or original. We were not impressed and would not return to the restaurant nor recommend it to our friends. We observed other tables not being impressed with their entrees as well. We are true "foodies" and this place felt more like a chain restaurant.

The "tapas" menu was very good, selections ordered were delicious, but high-priced for the size (compared to similar tapas menus in the area). Sharing was difficult because of the portion size and that seems to be the whole point to the tapas - sharing and tasting! Bread serving helped - very good as well as the spreads served with it.

Aperitivo is owned by Angelo, of upstate restaurant fame and accolade. This is his first foray into the small plates offering, and the quality is consistent with his other venues, top notch. Small plates such as white anchovies, veal meatballs, and steak tartare are offered, as well as larger, more traditional entres. The wine list is Angelo's pride and joy, but the mixologists behind the large and sexy Soho-styled bar can do wonders with your most esoteric desire, and every libation you can imagine is stocked. This large, downtown New York-ish spot is a for the "see and be seen" crowd as well as genuine foodies. Exposed brick, high ceilings, amazing lighting, great sofas. Aperitivo's clients are well-heeled, hip, and veteran alike.
