I first discovered McCormick restaurants while I was at college in Seattle. I was thrilled to find that they had the McCormick & Kuleto's chain in San Francisco. The food was great, the restaurant has a great view and location at Ghiradelli Square, and it is definitely a place I will bring other to enjoy. We all had a lovely time!

The food was good, but not outstanding. I've eaten at the McCormick & Schmick's in downtown San Jose and I remember the food was incredible. I did enjoy that the waiter got that we didn't want to be pestered. For a touristy location, the restaurant was enjoyable for locals. That was a surprise since I've been at other restaurants in the area where you can easily feel overwhelmed by the tourist aspect.

  • The wild salmon was very dry
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 3/26/2008
The wild salmon was very dry which for the price made the experience "not so good". We knew it had been frozen and that was OK, but it was cooked way too long. The potatoes were not quite cooked all the way through either. In general we had a nice time, (because the other meals were fine and the service was good). We did not say anything because by then we were very hungry and didn't want to wait any longer. We ordered the walnut/blue cheese salads but the walnuts didn't come with the salad and it took the waiter a while to come back to our table so we ended up eating the walnuts separately! People with difficulty walking had a miserable time trying to get to the bathrooms down so many stairs too.

Loved their salads. Just the right sized portions; delicious, fresh. When we used our gift card/certificate, the manager had to figure out how to use it; but they let us know it would take a while and didn't bother us with "their" problem...handled very well. We will return. Reservation worked out just fine; no problem. Ample parking on the street at 11:30 a.m. on a weekday. Perfect.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2009

this is a place my partner and I have been coming for years--especially for oysters. the raw seafood bar is one of the best. of course, you can't beat the view. once the reconstruction of the complex is finished I imagine that it will be a favorite for those living in the new units as well as the tourists who pack it in droves. it does seem to cater to tourists. however, as prices for food and wine keep going up, it does limit how often locals would dine there. perhaps it will need to become less of a formula restaurant and begin to offer something really unique in the way of "special seafood".

Easter Sunday dawned with beautiful blue skies and golden sunshine. The restaurant is situated on a bluff overlooking a waterfront park and exposing the shimmering waters of San Francisco Bay. We had a table facing floor to ceiling windows revealing a spectacular view of bay traffic. Our waitperson was very personable and made sure we were happy with everything. The food and beverages were very tasty, full of flavor and prepared visually appealing. There was a family of 27 with 9 children under the age of 12 just off to the right of us and they were treated so well by the waitstaff that it was enjoyable to watch them. It didn't hurt that the children were very well behaved. We had a very enjoyable Easter meal at McCormick and Kuleto's

  • Food was pretty good. Waiter
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007
    Dined on 3/22/2008
Food was pretty good. Waiter was okay, but not very attentive. Ordered "no cheese" on my salad, but it had cheese. Had ordered steamed crab (I like it warm) before the waiter suggested getting the crab on the salad. He didn't tell me/I didn't ask about the crab on the salad being cold - it was. Waiter didn't acknowledge the cheese or the cold crab - instead he didn't come back to check in with us until we were done. Very touristy. Nice place, but diners were in tanks and flip flops. Awesome view, but felt a bit rushed. Not able to sit and linger.

  • The service was a little slow

The service was a little slow until we changed tables and sat by the window. After the change we got a good waiter who was very attentive and helpful. The appetizers were excellent, but the menu had changed from what we had expected. We had pulled up the menu on line and had selected our entree before we left. The halibut meal was tasteless, and unappealable, my stuffed salmon was satisfactory. The drinks ordered was missing ingredients, and tasteless. One of the problem drinks ordered was a keoke coffee. I expected more from the San Francisco location, than the San Jose location that we had visited before.

  • We took a friend there to
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006
    Dined on 3/19/2008
We took a friend there to celebrate his 60th birthaday. There were 8 of us. The sour dough bread was definately not fresh; probably day old. Salmon from Ketchikan orders were only luke warm. The crab cakes were dried out and too doughy. Not much crab flavor in them. The Fisherman Stews were great except that one of them was missing the claw part of the crab that everyone else got. Overall, our experience at this location was very disappointing. Don't think that anyone in the group would care to return again. It's a shame because I've had realy great experiences at the Las Vegas and Seattle locations where the sea food was fresh and hot.

I had the Catfish which was so tough I could barely cut through it with a knife. I don't know if it wasn't done or was just a bad piece of fish. My wife had the sole which is the only dish she has ever ordered there and it was excellent. I think as a whole the food is way too inconsistent.

  • Salads were good. Vegatables
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 3/13/2008
Salads were good. Vegatables were good. Service was fine. Unfortunately, the grilled wild sockeye salmon was bad. Wild sockeye salmon that's fresh and cooked appropriately is tender, flaky, and has a notable (but not disgusting) fishy flavor. This was tough, not flaky, and extremely fishy-tasting (not in the strong, good, salmon-flavor way -- but in the bad, fish-that's-not-fresh way). For $25 a plate a person should get better. For the record, we love wild sockeye salmon and eat it when we can, so we know what it should taste like. I have also eaten at McCormick's and Schmick's in a few other places across the country and have always been happy. This was a disappointment.

  • It started with management
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007VIP

It started with management being mad at the hostess as we walked in for letting a table party step outside. The waiter was arguing with management about taking our table. It was very clear he felt it was not in his station and he should not have to wait on us. Management was saying Lisa was too busy to take us on. We were shown to the table which was not set up and had to wait for it to be set. Our waiter was shaking quite a bit which was strage as well. I have been to this McCormick's before but this was defiantly not a good time. I also go often to both locations in Denver. In having gone to McCormick's since the 1980's I have felt a steady decline in service. This was just another example.
