Great cocktail list. Good food- very reasonably priced. Steak was not the best piece of meat we've had, but all the other food was fantastic. Excellent service.

It's actually somewhere between memorable and a rare find -- but Petit Robert is consistently satisfying and a very comfortable place to eat with friends. Great location for premusic dining (Jordan Hall and Symphony being right around the corner). If not a rare find, at least a great one.

This restaurant has a fatal flaw that they really should fix - to get from the front bar room to the dining room, you have to walk through a busy serving area by the kitchen, bumping into staff, avoiding the coat hooks menacing placed at eye level-ugh. I was disappointed that even though we made a special request to be seated at a quieter table, they seated us right under the speakers delivering loud, canned French music (!?@!) While our waiter seemed distracted and slow, other staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was good solid bistro fare. By chance (only) we noticed a couple of souffles being delivered to an adjacent table, which we immediately ordered - (no help from the waiter) they made the meal!

The kitchen staff bringing out the food kept getting whose plate was what wrong. They blamed it on a computer error (shutting down at the start of the night) but that still didn't explain how our main wait person couldn't keep the kitchen staff informed.

Bartender had a bad attitude and was not helpful. Side dishes were cold. Coffee contained a mouthful of grinds. Service slow and not responsive even though it was not that crowded towards end of evening. The bartender was a jerk with a french accent. Hostess informed me his farther had recently died and although this was not an excuse he was probably in a poor mood because of this. Bad experience. Suggest :DNV (Do Not Visit. When I told the waiter that the restaurant was a bit rough around the edges his response was " aren't all restaurants". No. Staff seemed immature.

I think the prices are excellent for the great quality of the food. It just seemed cramped and the waitstaff seemed harried. An overall frentic type of atmosphere. I would go back next time to the other location. Actually, my duck confit was excellent; my boyfriend's beef bouignone was good. Our service was friendly, but a little disjointed; different people were waiting on us. I had to remind them to charge me for the bottle of wine and they were apologizing...what for? I perhaps should have not said anything! I asked for more coffee, but didn't get it in the end. Then we were waiting & waiting for our last bill. It was a Saturday night, though. It would have been nicer if the atmosphere was just a bit more relaxed.

Although I had heard amazing reviews from their other location, the Columbus Avenue did not entirely meet my expectations. The service was good, although our waitress was new and was not trained well enough to explain the menu and specific dishes. The wine list was excellent and the food overall was good but some items could have been better. We had to ask for the bread which should have been a given.

Our waiter was young, well-intentioned and a little bit clunky in his timing. Peach souffle was too subtle to really shine. Loved the vegetable pate, the blush sparkling wine by teh glass, the scallops. Oh and I can't forget teh fantastic bread. Third visit and I look forward to the next.

Dinner was good but not great. I had very standard steak frite which was very tough, but tasty nonetheless. They were busy and service was slow but very friendly--really nice folks work there. We had to ask for menus after 10 minutes. One complaint is the noise level. We're tired of loud restaurants where you have to scream to have a decent conversation which is why we don't go to Gaslight anymore and sadly Petite Robert in the South End is no exception. If memory serves me right the Kenmore location was quieter when we were there last. Would I eat here again? Yes.

We've been regulars at Petit Robert (originally in Kenmore, now at the South End location) for a couple of years. Sadly Petit Robert seems to be a victim of their own success. Service is less personal, the restaurant is almost always full (and too loud), unavailable menu items (even early in the evening) and on this visit, a disagreeable waiter. He went so far to argue with us that the the pinot grigio that we ordered was the same as the pinot gris he tried to serve us. And I'm curious why there seems to be so much staff turnover - used to be a pretty consistent team of servers, now there are new faces (and no familiar faces except the owners and Sophie) every time we visit.

The cooking could have been better executed with some dishes far better than others. The pate was delicious, deserts were fine (though too sweet for our tastes) however the entrees in some cases were overcooked but others were delicious. Overall, the food is fine however improvements could be made in terms of consistency. The worse part of the experience was our server. Our server was inattentive, unprofessional and generally seemed disinterested. We had to continually wait for and flag our server throughout the course of our meal. However, the server bringing our food was very attentive to detail and any of our other needs.

I had the scallops with tomatoes and garlic butter sauce and they were superb. I also have had the soup du jour on two separate occassions and absolutely loved it. So fresh! 3. Excellent service! A typical bistro with lively atmosphere and very good food with all of the bistro classics such as steak frites, calves liver and duck confit. A cozy place with exposed brick all around which makes for a very loud room. However, the food and ambience make up for that. The prices are very reasonable as well as the wine list with some interesting wines. Valet parking and full bar as well. I would recommend and would go back.

Petit Robert on Columbus continues to be a reliable place for very good French food. That the wait-staff are native French-speakers adds to the ambiance. The Bisgtro is becomming better known and so more crowded and noisy. Glad they now take reservations. It's been our neighborhood favorite since it opened. And the "Denis" pear martini is amazing.

There was a lot of miscommunication with the server because she was french. I know that it makes it more authentic, but it was hard understanding her. The specials were written in tiny cursive on the board so we had difficulty deciphering it. In all, the food was okay, but tinier than I remembered when I went last month. The tripe barely covered the bottom of the bowl, and the foie gras this time around was a flop.

I dine out frequently and had high hopes for our first visit to Petit Robert. However, the extremely slow service in getting started and wrapping up will likely influence our decision to return. When we walked in, there were two staff members in the front of the restaurant, neither of whom greeted us or told us someone would be with us. One waiter looked at us and then left the room. When we finally were seated, we sat with menus nearly 15 minutes without a drink order or a first visit from our waiter. When our waiter saw us, he said, "I'll be right with you." Then he proceeded to take orders, run checks, and serve other customers. When the food came, it was quick and tasty, but then we were stuck waiting for the check and doggie bags.
