  • I ordered the romaine salad

I ordered the romaine salad w/ pear, gorgo and spiced pecans. Sounded devine. I was disappointed when it arrived as it was hardly the size of an appetizer salad. For 14.00, I estimate a scant 2 cups of romaine lettuce was used to make the salad.

I expected the food to be much better. I had the fish special for lunch and it was served with the skin on, which isn't very appetizing, and then the fish was quite mushy right next to the skin. Nothing wrong with it, just wouldn't classify it as outstanding. Fairly limited lunch menu - maybe 5 salads, 5 sandwiches and 5 entrees. I expected more.

  • The menu is designed for people
    OpenTable Diner Since 2008
    Dined on 4/13/2008
The menu is designed for people who enjoy more exotic foods and don't mind paying high prices. The location, the 16th floor of 92 story building is not a plus. If the location were above the 80th floor, it would be memorable. The gimmicks (wine list in a wooden box) and ultra-modern decor only carry the place so far. The tables for two are too close. We, along with the parties on either side could not enjoy a private conversation and this was unfortunate considering it took 2 1/2 hrs for dinner. The ultimate question is would I return and the answer is probably not. There are numerous restuarants in this category and this one did not stand out. I would probably try another or return to one that I enjoyed more.

Horrible experience. Sat for five minutes with no menus and no waiter greeting. Seated in "kids" room, a room off the side of the main room with a table full of kids at 9:00 pm. Simply got up and left and nobody even bothered to inquire why we were leaving. I'm glad we left before spending a ton of money on a mediocre dining experience.

  • Dinner at Sixteen was great.

Dinner at Sixteen was great. My only complaint was that my friend has food allergies and asked if the chef could accomodate her if she chose the tasting menu and was assured that he could. Twice, I received a course and she did not receive anything - as they could not modify the courses appropriately. I also received one course that had been prepared without the herb crust although I do not have any dietary restrictions. Her restrictions are extensive and I am sure are difficult for any kitchen to follow. However, if we had been told that it would be difficult to modify the tasting menu, we would have just ordered from the a la carte menu. All in all, Sixteen was a great experience and I will return, but this did mar the evening a bit.

  • We arrived for Sunday Brunch

We arrived for Sunday Brunch and were shown our table. We sat for 15 minutes before we had to flag someone down to ask if there was a menu or just buffet option for the meal. Just the brunch, which was fine, but we wish we would have been told that when we first sat down. With no menu, and brunch on our plates, we were flying solo wondering just how much could the Trumpbrunch cost. Let me tell you because we did not find out until the bill arrived. $75 per person. Not quite worth it, especially because the service was so very sub-par. Napkins went unfolded on our chairs when we arrived back from a 2nd helping at the counter. Wait staff was hard to find. Hope you have a better experience. We won't be back for Sunday brunch.

  • Went for lunch on a Saturday.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. Service was bad. Ordered 2 drinks and a glass of wine. The wine came, but the drinks did not. The food came and still no drinks. Asked the second waiter for the drinks. They would be right out - they were not. My guest ordered salmon well done-it was seared outside and raw inside. Called the waiter - the salmon left and still no drinks. Now they brought out two complimentary glasses of champagne, but no drinks. After about 5 more minutes, the drinks finally came with an apology from the manager. He advised the drinks would be on the house. After 10 or 15 minutes the salmon returned and was cooked medium well, but still slightly undercooked in the center. Drinks were not comped when bill arrived.

  • The much touted dining room
    sfdr
    Dined on 4/4/2008
The much touted dining room with a 30' ceiling and a crystal chandalier is only one third of the actual dining area. We were seated in a small, totally UNimpressive room to the left of the entrance. Our lobster sandwich was so full of raw onions, no other taste came through. The chef made us a new batch without onions which proved tasteless. The lobster was shredded rather than in cubes. An all around disappointment. A crab salad was delicious but miniscule. The bread basket held two uninspired rolls, one pretzel and one sourdough. The upside was that the management was extremely attentive and anxious to correct the situation.

Room is beautiful. Booth seats were not comfortable. Hostesses were a disaster. Bar was slow, drinks weak. Ancillary waitstaff needs training. Food was good. For a $350 bill, I'd wait until a good manager is hired & retrains the staff. Chicago has so many fine restaurants. This needs more than the "TRUMP" name , it needs to deliver a better product. I canceled a reservation to "Everest" to go here. That won't happen again. Feel free to relay this to the management. Thanx for the opportunity to vent my dissatifaction. David Tobin

  • We chose the blind tasting
    OpenTable Diner Since 2004VIP
    Dined on 3/30/2008
We chose the blind tasting menu and we really enjoyed it. We read somewhere that the menu will change 2X/week and you will never repeat a dish. I hope that this is not true because the crab salad was amazing. The view was beautiful even on a foggy night. We didn't really like the closeness of the tables. It definitely takes away from the meal when the waitstaff is constantly squeezing in between the tables to serve you (especially when they are facing the table next to you). The parking was also extremely expensive. We paid the valet ~$30 to park, and we were only there for dinner. Most restaurants downtown will only charge $8-15. It took 10 minutes for them to bring our car back even though no one was waiting in front of us.

I was really looking forward to my experience at Sixteen. The view and dining room are great. The hostess, very welcoming and friendly as was the sommelier, our waiter was very slow, and not at all attentive. The service pace was very slow even for a "fine dining" experience. Our waiter only had maybe 4 tables in his section. After waiting at least 15 minutes after our initial contact, the sommelier came by to ask if we wanted something to drink and we said, we would love to be able to place our order as well. She was fantastic, very informative and took care of us. Our food would get delievered occasionally with a description, sometimes just set down. I am not sure if I will go back or recommend.Disappointed b/c I had high expectations

    OpenTable Diner Since 2004VIP
    Dined on 3/25/2008
I think I need to go back for dinner because it seems a bit pretentious for lunch. The staff was nice enough, but there seems an overarching snobbishness kind of built into the persona of the restaurant. Lunch selections were not too varied and lunch itself was very ho-hum. My crab salad looked very skimpy - good thing I don't eat too much. My other friend had a salad with nuts and maybe apple and cheese - it just looked like a dump of lettuce in a bowl. I'm in the WPO organization which is going to have their holiday party in the banquet facility in December. That will be interesting.

Breathtaking views, beautiful decor. Romantic, conversation friendly atmosphere. Entire waitstaff very good. Cordial hostess and professional waiter. Timimg was off. My champagne cocktail took a long time (15 minutes) and then arrived close to room temperature. Waited for it to chill. Our appetizers arrived minutes after ordering and that took us off guard. We hadn't even tasted our bottle of wine. Therefore, food sat while the whole wine tasting and pouring proceeded. THe timing mellowed out and we ended up having a lovely evening. The food was excellent. Great flavors. Few options, tho. My soup arrived lukewarm. Dessert cookies were nice touch. Huge wine list.

I've been to 16 for both lunch and dinner. The dining room (for dinner) is a most spectacular room. It was nice to lunch in a smaller room....however, it was a wee bit noisy. All in all, this restaurant is fabulous considering it's only been open a short time. I was most astounded that Christina actually recognized me from my first visit to the restaurant and even knew my name. We all enjoyed the food and think this is a welcome addition to Chicago's restaurant scene. My one suggestion to improve the overall experience for dining there: more training for the wait staff. We all realize that this is a shake out period but in order for this to be 100%, that area needs to be refined. I'll be back!

The room, the view and the ambiance are all second-to-none. And while everyone...and I do mean everyone...from the doorman to the hostess to the servers were extremely friendly and welcoming, our server was scarce. Subsequently, we weren't able to order for quite some time, we were unable to order more wine during dinner and our water glasses were dry. At this type of restaurant, I suppose I look to be overly attended! It put a bit of a cloud on an otherwise very good experience, but again, hats off to all of the employees throughout the building for being so nice.
