We had an enjoyable dinner get-together with friends who had not been in touch for a while, so the restaurant was good at allowing us to sit and catch up. The service was very good, we had a nice table, half in/half out. Not too noisy. I understand mussels are the primary food here, but I was in the mood for a lobster roll and it was a bit disappointing. The fries it came with were excellent. My table mates enjoyed their dinners - crab lump salad and chicken. A good evening with good friends.

After taking out a co-worker for lunch on his last day, everyone invited was absolutely blown away at the terrific beer selection and different menu choices! So, for a combined Father's Day and birthday celebration I made a reservation for last Sunday for my own family. Once again the menu offerings and beer and wine selection satisfied everyone in the party. The appetizers are different: lobster croquettes, sweet potato gnocchi, and escargot was outstanding. The crab mixed salad was light, fresh, subtly flavorful. And the mussel pots were tender, squeaky clean, flavorful and exciting! Thank you, Waterzooi!

Before dining at Waterzooi, I was not a huge fan of mussels. Well, this place converted me as the mussels are to die for! For starters we had the salmon flatbread which we devoured, and for our entree ordered the Moules Pot (pot of mussels) with Paella. Each cast-iron pot contains at least 2 1/2 lbs. of mussels enough for even the heartiest appetite. Each mussel was tender and tasty. We finished our meal with the Creme Brulee which was as delicious as I enjoyed in Paris. Highly recommend this bistro and will be returning soon for the weekday specials.

The Belgian seafood restaurant features Mussel Pots. I especially like the Homard Pot which has a lobster sauce similar to a lobster bisque. The Belgian Beer is great as well. i recommend this restaurant highly.

Food was delcious and unique. Some of the best mussels i've ever had also had the verson of beef stew with apples and prunes. Insanely good and pleasantly different from the normal flavors and pairings. Service was top notch and the wait staff was very courteous.

the drinks were great as ususal. i come here quite often but this was my first time for brunch. the brunch menu was great lots of great selections but i was not happy with the lobster roll. too much mayo and not enough lobster and for $30 i felt i didnt get what I paid for. I could've gotten a better one at panera for half the price. my friend enjoyed her lobster eggs benedict and it looks like she had more lobster than i did on her entree. I still love this place this was my first negative experience in the 4 years i have been coming here.

Been to Waterzooi many times. Typical Garden City prices, but if you can afford the neighborhood I guess expensive restaurants don't bother you either. They have cheap mussels on Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday (which are always delish - I can't argue that), so I sucked it up. Waiter was really great, although there were a few bumps at first (not his fault - salads came out in about 2 seconds, and the drinks not for 10 minutes). Martinis were great, and the beer is really good too. A downside is the acoustics - VERY loud when the place fills up, to the point where you can't hear across the table. Anyway, come for the mussels and the beer. It's worth the trip. On a Tuesday.

I am told if you like mussels they are terrific. My dinner companion had the mussels and loved them. Everything else was just average. I had the lobster cocktail to start. It basically had no flavor. My steak was good not great. The only thing I really liked was the Truffle lobster mac and cheese. It was an appetizer but we ordered it as a side with the main dish. I tried the parts of the paella pot that was not mussels and it was flavorful. I would not go back but again I am not a mussel lover.

The food was excellent, the service was good. Very noisy though and not enough room on the table. We ordered 2 appetizers: 1 order of mussels and 1 order of fondue, it was very tight. Everything we ordered was delicious. We've been there a few times before and will return again - the food is definitely worth it!

Eggs benedict with smoked salmon was very good. However, the food was served warm, would have preferred it to be hotter. Instead of potatoes, there should be an option of a salad -- Belgian waffle was very good - should have a little more fruit served with it. Pistachio gelato was delicious. Noise level was very loud!

I came here for brunch for my birthday. There was nothing notable about the lobster benedict. it was overpriced and boring. i was expecting to be wowed, and i really wasnt. we had 130 reservations and somehow got seated between people w obnoxious children. this really did not seem like a place that you would expect children to be at-- not impressed. the noise level in this place is honestly obnoxious, so loud you cant hear anything. i would not come back here for brunch.

I have always been pleased with the food & service at Waterzooi. When we went for dinner Sunday night, we were very dissatisfied with the service. We ordered from the price-fixe menu, & I upgraded to paella. I also ordered a beer. After we ordered, we did not see our waitress again. We had no silverware. She did not come to see if I needed another drink or to let us know that the food would be arriving shortly since we waited over 40 minutes for dinner. After dinner was served, she did not come to ask how everything was. In the meantime, she stopped at the table behind us 3 times. She did come to clean the table and bring dessert but never asked if we wanted anything else. While the food was good, the service put a damper on the night.

The food & drinks are always good. Never disappoints. I love the many choices for different palates. It wasn't too empty when we went on a Saturday evening. But once it got a bit later the service slowed down a lot. Our server forgot my side dishe and returned less frequently to refresh our drinks. At one point we sat there staring at our Belgium waffle because we weren't given utensils and dishes. But then the dishes came but still no utensils and my drink was forgotten. I don't blame her since she was given a lot of tables by herself. She seemed a little frazzled. Still, she was kind and friendly and that's better than someone who didn't give a hoot. Will definitely return but not on a busy weekend evening. But then again I'm old.

I don't always mind a loud restaurant. The energy can be good. But here it was ridiculous--people screaming to be heard, kids whining, crying. The place is dark and dingy with bad lighting. The food was mediocre, especially the mussels, which is supposed to be the main attraction here. I've never seen such tiny mussels, and the sauce was unimpressive. We ordered the Bouillabaisse style which came with some kind of crab or lobster meat and shrimp strewn on top of the pot of shells--what a weird way to serve it. The shrimp were teeny and rubbery. Frites were lousy too. Will not be coming back.

My girlfriend and I went out for our first Valentines Day celebration. This restaurant was recommended to us by two of my friends. The items on the menu are expensive but it was definitely worth the price. Very generous portions and it was delicious. Service was great and the atmosphere of the restaurant was wonderful and very romantic. The only complaint we have, if you can call it that, was that space was very limited. I heard all conversations on either side of me and sometimes my girlfriend and I had to repeat ourself during conversation. Will we go back? Absolutely!

The only reason to go here is for the mussels and fries. They never fail. The mussles are as good as the mussels in Belgium. Now the bad, the BBQ sliders. They are not my taste. The roll that the slider is on is very soggy. There is way too much sweetnes in the BBQ sauce. There is hardly any meat on the sliders and the meat that's there is very dry. Very disappointing. Their burgers are ok. I would stick to their seafood menu. This is what they are famous for.
